Can anyone confirm if the Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 is Windows 7 Compatible?

Years ago I bought the first Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro and was forever scarred after upgrading to XP from Windows 98 only to find out that it wasn't compatible. In an instant my $149.99 baby would no longer let me experience Freespace 2 the way it was meant to be played.

So after discovering GoG.com and realizing there were Vista (and assuming Windows 7 compatible) versions of old games like Descent, Descent 2, Freespace and Freespace 2, I kind of convinced myself to track down a Sidewinder FF 2 which, according to customer reviews online, is in fact supported by XP and Vista. My only concern is paying 100-200 dollars on a stick off of ebay or something and being stuck with a cool looking over-priced paperweight. Can anyone confirm if this thing works with Windows 7 64-bit?

It's a Microsoft product so it should be picked up instantly by the DirectInput component of DirectX. No external drivers will be needed as they're already present.

It never got any Vista and thus no Windows 7 drivers. According to what you are saying, it didn't even get XP drivers.

So yeah, abandoned. Have fun playing Mechwarrior Titanium Trilogy on it with a Win98 machine.

You're right as far as the Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro goes, but reports say that the Force Feedback 2 was supported on XP & Vista. If I read the customer reviews right they said that they just plugged it in and it was recognized, which is what has me thinking about purchasing the 2 model.

If I can't confirm it's compatibility with Windows 7 though, I might just opt for the much cheaper alternative http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16879337003 which looks like a good product to me... I just know that I'll miss the incredible force feedback from the Sidewinder joysticks.

If it has Vista drivers, it will work on Windows 7, since the driver model is pretty much the same.

I mean, I'm not making any guarantees, but it's a very safe bet. If it works in Vista, it'll work in W7.
