Can someone explain me these banned memes?

I guess I will bite the pill and try to explain the memes. I really hope I don't get banned for this...

1) Shoop da Woop(firin mah lazor) -- It's racist, you'll get banned.

One thing you gotta know about memes on GAF is that most of them are spillovers from 4Chan. This is one of them. It's basically a photoshop of Cell (a Dragon Ball Z villain) with a black face (like pitch black face and red prominent lips) saying "SHOOP DA WHOOP" "IMA FIRIN MAH LAZOR". It looked kind of funny at first but then you realize that the drawing of the character is extremely rascist. You can google it and see for yourself. It's pretty obvious when you look at it.

2) Nicole Bass

Some really ugly, muscle building woman that got singled out and got made fun by GAF and generally used to derail threads (like most memes). This is sort of like "Megan Fox sharp knees" crap that got popular not too long ago.

3) Rape Time!

You didn't ask for it but I thought that I would go over every one of them anyway. This one is usually a GIF of some middle aged black guy with a cloak and an evil look with the words "Rape Time" on top in black and white color. I never knew why this was funny, I guess some people have a twisted sense of humor.

4) Rickrolling

I don't know the details of this but it's basically this one guy called Rick who started this trend of hotlinking certain web links to a particular video of him basically saying "you got rickroll'd" or some crap like that. It's really annoying because some user would link you to something which you think is relevant to the topic and you end up getting Rickroll'd instead...

5) So basically X is better than Y

This one is a classic Gaming Age meme, one of my favorites. I am fairly certain that this started with Zelda TP, the Gamespot review where they scored the Gamecube version HIGHER than the Wii version by 0.1 point (most sites scored the Wii version higher or gave the same score). Most people insinuated from this that Gamespot was saying that the GCN version was better than the Wii version and that was seen to be blasphemous. This was bound to happen as it was around when the Wii was getting released.

So then every game after Zelda TP that scored higher than it (didn't matter if it was in the same genre) people would say "SO basically (Insert any unknown mediocre game that scored higher than Zelda TP at Gamespot) is better than Zelda TP". It was sort of a way to mock score based reviews and most people were just letting their anger out over the Gamespot review. It soon got ugly when people started applying it to all games... So basically X is better than Y was based on arbitrary score comparisons even among different sites and games of different genres on different consoles. It was a massive thread derailer and usually ended up in flames.

6. Caturday

Basically on Saturday someone would make a thread and people would flood it with cat gifs/photoshops. This was something that was started at 4Chan. Afterwards EVERY DAY became Caturday and that's why you see cat gifs in every thread. It really is getting annoying now...

7. WEEKEND GAF LOL

Weekend GAF is a thread derailer. It was a series of weekends where more than once someone would post a really shitty thread about their "opinions" or just plain retarded topic of discussion. It was something comparable to what you would see at Gamefaqs. Usually on weekend the younger GAF members would have more free time on their hands, would get bored and would make a thread out of this boredom and you get a crappy thread where people start calling out the OP. It was also because the Weekends didn't see much gaming news either. This type of thread was usually derailed by saying "Weekend GAF LOL" as a way to marginalize it.

It was good for those certain threads but then it spilled over even to relevant threads during the Weekends. It normally undermined a post on GAF during the weekend and it would piss off people when their post would be met by someone saying "Seems like it's Weekend GAF time...". This was bound to be banned sooner or later.

8. Blame Wii Fit

Generally this was damage control when more "core" games early on in this generation failed to meet expectations sales wise. This was especially prevalent on the PS3 side, especially in Japan. More casual friendly "non-games" as they were called got insane sales and it generally marked a downfall for most "gamers games" in Japan. People blamed the lack of sales of certain big budgeted titles on Wii Fit's success.

Then whenever there was news about certain "next gen" games being cancelled or any related news that didn't bode well with either the PS3/360, users would come in and say "Blame Wii Fit". Eventually it got out of hand where any news was met with someone saying "Blame Wii Fit" so it got banned.

9. Posting in a Legendary Thread

This was common a long time ago, even pre-2004 GAF. During the 2004-2006 certain big name game franchises like Final Fantasy, DMC, Virtua Fighter, Grand Theft Auto etc. that were once console exclusive came to 360 and in some cases console exclusive (Ace Combat). It was like clockwork how certain franchises just started "jumping ship" and this is also where the "Money Hats" meme came from. This resulted in fanboy meltdowns and it was where most console neutral gamers came in and said "Posting in a Legendary threads" because news of such "betrayaltons" ended up being massive threads that were good entertainment while they lasted.

It got annoying where any semi-good thread had some asshat come in and say "Posting in a Legendary thread". Posts like these add nothing to the thread and are just annoying to read. It's like you want to be part of that good thread but couldn't think of something good to say so you just posted this instead...

10. tl;dr (including variant "BOLD PLEASE")

This stands for Too Long; Didn't Read. Usually when some topic creator would make a long post to start a discussion or give his opinion and if it's more than a paragraph long some lazy GAFFer would come in and say "too long didn't read" or just plain "tl;dr" if they are super lazy.

Another variant of this is "bold please" where someone would post a page from an article and lazy GAFFers don't want to read the whole thing and just want the important stuff bolded for them so they just type in "Bold Please". It promotes general laziness, spamming and less reading.

11. PM begging in all its guises

Sometimes someone on GAF would claim to have some dubious material that he can't just post on GAF or he would be banned (like magazine scans). Instead of just PMing (Private Messaging) themselves, certain users would cleverly hide their posts with the letters P and M in it to indicate that they want the stuff via PM. It's a waste of post and doesn't add anything and it's just plain stupid. Ask for private stuff THROUGH PMs...

12. The "Cool story, bro." meme. You better bring something more to the table or else get a foot in the ass.

Normally someone would share their daily experiences with life by making a topic about it. This is generally a boring story to the average GAFFer and it is usually met with the sarcastic response "Cool story bro". This type of post doesn't really add anything to the story and it's not "relating" to it either. It's merely making fun of it. There is also a certain GIF that goes with it and its variants involving a guy smiling and giving a thumbs up. It's a fairly generic response, it's neither funny nor creative.

I hope I was helpful.

....waitaminute..... "this one guy called Rick"? It's Rick Astley, and I doubt he started it. Unless there was some other kind of rickrolling that started it. It's basically a practical joke.

....waitaminute....since when was "Cool story, bro" EVER supposed to be funny or creative? It was merely used to show that the reader either didn't relate to the post, or commentary that the post was asinine and mundane (as you point out)

Anyway, I'll say it again, all the banned memes (and internet 'memes' in general) are seldomly funny, and never real add to the topic. They're obviously amusing the first time (as that is what prompts it into becoming a so-called 'meme'), but once people start using it regularly, it becomes tired.

I thought it was getting linked to the Rick Astley music video "Never Gonna Give You Up" when you thought it was something else?

Helpful explanations otherwise I suppose.

Whenever a meme thread rolls around, I usually check Know Your Meme, and this time I found "X in G Major", which prompted me to make one for Bad Romance, and it sounds really interesting.

It is, and actually, it's named after the NeoGAF mod Duckroll. No kidding, the meme that escaped into the real world and everyone and their grandma knows about, exists because Duckroll's name is Duckroll.

Man i can't believe cool story bro is banned. Now people have to be more elaborate with their insults to blog-gaf.

I hated seeing Caturday get banned. I mean it was annoying when people would randomly fly in with it, but it was GREAT for really shitty threads.

I never understood tl;dr being banned either...mostly because OPs say it and/or do it all the time. So it's like why does it matter if someone else asks for it. Even if they are being snide or lazy. It must have been pretty bad. It got banned not to long before or after i joined. I can't remember.

No no you're thinking of "you gonna get raped." "Rape time" is a punchline from a comic series called Morning Glory. I wasn't around when it was used on GAF so I don't know if that's where it came from directly, but that's where I remember it from.

I'm pretty sure Rickrolling originated on 4chan's /v/ back on the day that the first GTA IV trailer was due to be out. When it came out and all the sites with it were getting hammered, people started linking to Never gonna give you up and saying it was a working link to the trailer.
It was named rickrolling because it was essentially a different version of duckrolling, but then I'm not sure whether Duckroll the mod is named after the meme or the other way around.
