I had to look this up quick because I thought this was just hyperbolic sarcasm.

And holy shit it's real, that's some grade-A fake humble if I've ever seen it.
The best part is when he said that he was going to say something about it during his acceptance speech but blanked lol

Eh who cares. I am no Macklemore fan but I have heard of him. I consider myself pretty with it on music and I don't even know who this other guy is. The Grammies are pretty much a top 40 wankfest.

It's ok though, because Macklemore texted Kendrick that he should have won....and then proceeded to post said text on Instagram because he's a self-serving bitch.
His text shows just how humble he is and Hip Hop is so much better because of him. All of those "thug" rappers could stand to learn a thing or two from him!

I'am not too well versed in the Grammy's so maybe one of you guys could clear this up for me, but why was The Heist even eligible for a Grammy? The Heist came out in 2012 and aren't only albums that came out in 2013 suppose to be eligible like the Academy Awards or are the Grammys different?

September 30th is the cutoff date.

If you followed any major music site in 2012, GKMC was at the very least in all of their top 5 AOTY.

What a dumbass thing to say. How is hip hop better because of Mack? Do you even know what hip hop is? Don't worry I'll wait for you to google your answer.

You're not 'with it' on music if you haven't even heard of Kendrick Lamar.

I'm not a Macklemore fan, but I don't blame him for posting that tweet. He knows he's going to get a ton of undeserved shit for winning over Kendrick. He's just trying to get out in front of it.

It's like professional wrestling. Sometimes the guy that no one likes wins vs the really popular guy, just to create a controversy and make a big deal the next time, where the good/popular guy will win.

I can actually relate to Macklemore. He's the first hip hop artist with something to say, unlike all of those "thugs" who only rap about shoes and bitches.

Exactly. So it's self-serving, and not genuine. That's the point people are making...

I don't pay attention to the Grammy's but Kendrick getting shut out 4-0 by Macklemore is hilarious.

Bitch don't kill my vibe.

The performances are the only reason I still tune into the Grammys. Kendrick and Imagine Dragons did far more for me than Macklemore.

Eh I just listened to a few of his songs on YouTube. Marginally better than Macklemore but that is not saying much.

This could just be me (changing tastes or getting old) but I really haven't heard any rap that I would consider "good" lately.

You honestly need to hear the alumb as a whole to do it real justice. It's the best kind of alumb, it has flow, mechanics, production. It's arc. You Need to listen to gkmc from start to finish and then you can see why it should be the best rap album of the year. The individual songs are great, but piecing it together is what makes it 100x better than the hiest could ever dream of being.

Because Random Access Memories was awesome?

Yea lemme just write a song that says the same 5 words about 10,000 times to the same beat for 10 minutes and win record of the year...

At least mackelmore has something to say with same love, though im not a makelmore fan either.

The thing I really loved about Good Kid/MAAD City [GKMC] is that when I first listened to it, the way the album used skits, and the immediacy of the lyrics, and the specific stories they were telling made me want to pay attention to the album. I listened to it over and over, every day as I rode the subway, and as I learned the lyrics I came to understand more and more of the album. Vice did a really nice write-up. It's a story about growing up, love, loss, family, responsibility, everything really.

Even if you don't want to spend an hour listening to the album with a lyrics sheet, at least read this very good write up on Vice.

Here's how the first two tracks are explained:

The story starts at the end. GKMC’s narrative focuses on K.Dot's transition to Kendrick Lamar as he tries to break free from Compton. The story isn’t completely chronological, as we’re told stories from K.Dot’s perspective, with a few Kendrick tracks peppering the storyline throughout.

The Prelude – Introducing Us To Compton
“Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe [Skit]”
“Backseat Freestyle”

GKMC opens with “Sherane a.k.a Master Splinter’s Daughter”. In terms of narrative, though, this isn’t the beginning. It’s like the opening scene in Annie Hall. Except instead of Woody Allen encapsulating all the neurotic aspects of my personality into five minutes, Kendrick sets up the story of him and Sherane. We’ll get back to that later, though.

Instead, the prelude to the story starts right after “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” with Kendrick’s friends picking him up.

“K.Dot, get in the car nigga. C’mon it’s time to roll out. I’ve got a packet of blacks and a beat CD”

In the story, Kendrick is playing the character of K.Dot, his own persona based around his real life experiences growing up in Compton. The majority of the record focuses on K.Dot and his journey toward transforming into Kendrick Lamar. Anyway…because a packet of cigarillos and a beat CD sounds appealing, K.Dot jumps in his friend's Toyota and rides around town.

When I spent my weekday nights clustered inside a steamed up Vauxhall Corsa, I was happy with a scruffily rolled stick of the devil’s lettuce and a trip to Tesco. But, I’m not Kendrick. I’m a white kid from the suburbs where the only danger is coming home too late. Instead, Kendrick starts freestyling with a verse that seemingly represents the mantra of his community ("Backseat Freestyle")

“All my life I want money and power / Respect my mind or die from lead shower”

Which leads us to…

Beaten multiple times, but still...

If you can stand it at all it deserves to be heard from start to finish. It's kind of like a short story.

The hiphop community needs to get fucking over being salty about the Grammys. You know how much they care about you? So much that they awarded HipHop & RB during the PRESHOW, it wasn't even televised despite being one of the largest demographics.

Other than that, don't hate on the hustle of another artist. GKMC is dope as fuck, but how much is GAF going to keep guilting some some guy for doing what he wants just cause some award show didn't give it to a black artist. GKMC should have taken it all the same though... but hey whatever. The grammy's don't matter, right?

The engineering and production on the entire album is phenomenal. Seriously. Lyrically, it's weak, sure. But look at the performance from last night. Notice how not a single person was just staring at them on stage, with a facial expression that looked like they were bored? Yeah. 2 Beatles, Steven Tyler, Stevie Wonder(who was of course playing with them) have all made their fair share of songs with emotional and meaningful lyrics. And they were all having a blast dancing to Get Lucky. If that doesn't say anything about how great of a track it is, then I don't know what does.

As positive of a message that Same Love has, it's not that great. It's not bad, but it didn't deserve to win Song of the Year over Royals. Okay well let's be honest, Macklemore shouldn't have won shit.

Thanks, I'll give it an honest listen tommorow. Tbh though a skit album sounds kind of tired, RIP Prince Paul (he is still alive isn't he?)

Does anyone really care? I mean it comes down to whether you believe Kendrick is the better rapper or Macklemore. I don't even like Macklemore, nor do I really consider him a rapper. But it's no different than the controversy that happens when say a certain film wins Best Picture etc. You're going to have people say no, Kendrick deserved it or you're going to have people say, sure Macklemore deserved it.
