Can the Mega Man series be "Primed"?

You do not have to show the possessive form. THAT IS NOT POSSESSIVE AT ALL. Even if you were using the apostrophe there, which you shouldn't, it wouldn't be indicating possessive/genitive case. Okay!

(it's FPSs)

Fair enough, I never went to english class anyway because I was too busy playing metroid, but doesnt it seem weird pluralising an acronym? :D

It's an FPS because you run around in first-person and shoot things--but that's as far as it goes.

You can't compare MP to Half Life and Halo because the game mechanics are completely different. The lock on system and the platforming are what subclassify Prime into the "FPA" genre. Calling Prime a pure FPS would be like calling GTA a driving game, only because you drive cars in it.

As for Megaman, I firmly believe that you can "Prime" anything so long as you do it well. There's people here who'll curse Capcom for years for it even if it turns out to be a great game, but that's kind of the norm here.

Having played both Metroid Prime games, I KNOW MP is an FPS.

Ok, let's ignore the fact that Retro themselves stated it was a FPA, not a FPS. The game is Metroid. It has the feel, pacing, and action of a Metroid game. Simply changing the perspective of a game doesn't alter its genre; especially when all the essential mechanics still remain largely the same. Regardless, I'm not here to change anyone's opinion. I was just surprised at how many people still try to group MP with FPSes.

Hmm, there's a gun in the lower right half of the screen, it seems to be firing a rather large part of the time and I'm looking at it from a first person perspective...

I don't care what Retro wants to call it, it's an FPS.

I can tell you that this isn't a forum, and that it is in fact, a "textual analyisis, rebuttal, discussion, role playing game."

TARDRPG

That doesn't make it true.

Wait...

So Metroid Prime is closer to Myst than Half-Life?

Why does it need to be classified?

It can't, solidly. Metroid Prime can, however, have its own little subgenre all to itself. Just like every other title. That said, defining the subgenre every time someone logically throws it into a huge, vague, broad genre confuses me.

Samus would kick the crap out of Mega Man. Mega Man can't even shoot diagnoly and he doesnt have morph ball or grappling hook capabilities. I don't think Mega Man would survive 2 minutes on Zebes.

He wouldn't, but Cutman would really fuck Samus up.

I like Metroid Prime too but...

Can we please close our doors to prevent more people like this from joining?

Seriously... did someone open up a worm hole that transported us to the Gamecube General forum on GameFAQs?

i guess Turok was the first FPA huh!?!? lots of platforming and exploring in the Turok N64 games!

there's even backtracking to get powerups that were previously unattainable!!!

oh, and as for the comparison of metroid to megaman.. :lol :lol :lol GTFO!

v., primed, prim·ing, primes.

v.tr.
1. To make ready; prepare: guard dogs primed for attack.
2. To prepare (a gun or mine) for firing by inserting a charge of gunpowder or a primer.
3. To prepare for operation, as by pouring water into a pump or gasoline into a carburetor.
4. To prepare (a surface) for painting by covering with size, primer, or an undercoat.
5. To inform or instruct beforehand; coach.
6. To make shitty, boring 3D versions of what were once perfectly good games.

Now, ask yourself...is this what I really want to do?

If anything, the biggest sin of Metroid:Prime's gameplay was that it imitated Super Metroid's structure too closely, without adding that much of its own. Although there is the 3D part, so it balances out.

Anyway, this thread is...pretty dumb.

A good 3rd person Megaman would be a better concept. Megaman is more about the character and less about how he sees the environment.

I believe they've done that and made what most would consider bad games... Though the idea someone mentioned earlier of making it Ratchet-ish could work.

I think they should make a 3D megaman X closer to something like Shinobi where he can dash around, attack enemies with a sword, and shoot his M buster.

Absolutley, I dont remember getting a single upgrade after beating a boss. In Mega Man you gain the bosses powers after you defeat them, this is nothing even remotley similar to metroid. Buddy is stretching reality a few degrees there..
Have you ever played Metroid Prime? Every boss/mini save for Meta Ridley and the Parasite Queen gives you an upgrade after.

Furthermore, in MP2:E you actually do gain the boss powers (Boost Ball from the Boost Guardian). OMGZ! METROID COPIED MEGAMAN!!!

You dumb bitch :lol

Uh, so anyway. For a game like Mega Man Legends, I'd like to see Mega Man with a first person view and look in a similar fashon in that sense. Have Roll communicate with some kind of live video feed or something.

Or you could opt for 3rd person view, "Old skool"

Not really related but I'll ask it anyway...

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is on sale at Target for $15.

I loved the first one, just missed this one during all the new releases at the time.

Yay, or nay?

For $15? You'd be crazy not to.

You know what might be a cool Mega Man game?

Some kind of side-scrolling game where you play as regular Mega Man. Not X, or Dash, or Zero, or .EXE or whatever.

Like was said in chat earlier--Mega Man FPS would be kinda like Serious Sam...toss in some power-based puzzles, and it could work. COULD.

But hell, Capcom's having enough fun milking 2D for all it's worth, so I won't argue.

I don't understand why people are getting so heated (i.e., Capcom/Mega Man homers). There are how many Mega Man spin-offs currently on rotation, 3-4? Why not a first-person incarnation of the series? Everyone will still get their 2D fix (e.g., .EXE series, X series, etc.).

Uh, ever played a Metroid game before? Many of the biggest upgrades are found after defeating bosses. In fact, in MP2 I think there was almost always at least a mini-boss encounter before getting an item.

He's talking about the NES one, not the later ones. I remember getting E-Tanks after beating Ridley and Kraid, but no major upgrades.

Didn't you also get like 75 missiles after beating the bosses? WHAT ABOUT THE MISSILES?

Thank you. Obviously I was talking about the original Metroids. How could Mega man copy a 3d metroid that wasnt released until 2001, jeez...
Some guys are easily turned around it seems...

Now it's official that the Mega Man franchise is nothing more than a blatant rip-off of the Metroid series,
You mean Capcom has been ripping this off
samusaran8yq.gif

and putting it into Mega Man games? WHERE IS MY CLOTHES DISINTEGRATING IN A WHITE LIGHT HALF NUDE MEGA MAN.

Can and should it be done? There are a bunch of spinoffs in the Mega Man universe (Netword, X, original series, Zero, etc.), why not?
Hey everybody, look at the Nintendo fan who doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about!!

lolz @ this thread.

Umm, I don't see the similarities between these games at all. They are both sidescrollers with upgradable characters but the biggest diference is that Metroid has only 1 consistant level whereas Megaman has several small levels with bosses at the end of each. Also Metroid involvesw way more puzzle solving/secret finding and Megaman is all action.
I agree with this post the most.

Dude, I hadn't thought of a Mega Man FPS but after thinking about it, it would be pretty rockin if done right. I could really get excited for something like that.
