Can we talk about Samuel L Jackson?

I thought he was just Sam Jack now?
Man is pretty bad ass though, and takes lots of jobs.
He even took the role of Bish's avatar.

He just likes doing whatever he wants. Acting is fun for him, so he'll just take whatever role strikes his fancy. That's why he did Snakes on a Plane. He's awesome like that.

Wish he'd show up in more decent stuff honestly. He was absolutely fantastic in Hateful Eight. But hey if he likes doing shitty movies on the side then more power to him.

He does everything that gives him $$$$$$

I don't care if he's in shitty movies as long as he's also in good ones. SLJ is one of my fav actors of all time.

I bet it's really easy to take these roles when you know damn well you're just going to be playing another version of the same character you've already played dozens of times.

yeah I think he simply enjoys acting
there are many like that

I think Robert De Niro is the most extreme case, because he is one of the very top Hollywood Legends

The reporter who made the mistake never said anything about The Avengers and he later admitted to making the mistake and apologized for it.

He never said anything about cars either, but Jackson just assumed that was what he was talking about, without asking him to clarify, and started berating him live on air.

The reporter didn't apologise for confusing him with Fishburne. He apologised for not clarifying which commercial he was talking about when challenged. If I was him I would be furious with Jackson and with all the reporters that keep reporting this false line about him getting two black actors confused. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/ktla-anchor-apologizes-mistaking-samuel-679048

Kind of reminds me of Danny Trejo. Trejo isn't as big name as Jackson of course but dude has enough bank. Even so he goes out and just volunteers to be in student films and little projects just because he likes the work and he likes meeting people.
Yeah, Jackson does a lot but Trejo's output is absolutely mind-boggling. Swear to god that guy averages a new direct-to-video movie every week.

he definitely loves his job and probably loves the money coming with it, too. who wouldn't? He's been a nobody until he was 45, that's enough time to develop a unsatiable hunger

I always assume it's because he just really likes acting. Some of these lower budget fare also allow him to go ultra-ham (as opposed to regular ham) in ways that big budget films may not. Seems like he has fun even if the movie is a tire fire.

Dude is a workaholic, from what I've read about him he cannot stand being awake from work.

this. he used to be a crackhead. he swapped addictions. while some would say workaholism is a good alternative, i would have to disagree. what's that old saying? "no one on their death beds says they wished they had worked more". while there have been plenty that said "damn, i wish i had smoked some more crack". i'm half kidding.

Think he just loves to do his job and if a movie ain't that good then oh well. It isn't like De Niro where it seems he doesn't enjoy the gig and just does it for cash flow (recent years).

He's rich as fuck so he probably just does it because he's friends with the producers or even more simply: he enjoys it.

You might also consider his signing on for a no name film suddenly brings attention and spotlight to it. If you already had money, and enjoyed what you do, why wouldn't you work on a smaller release film?

Because he is among the few actors in the world that can elevate garbage above it's place. By virtue of him simply being in a bad film, makes the film better than it otherwise would have been.

Yup, just became his passion. He loves acting and playing new characters. It's crazy, I mean I still remember him from Coming to America and then seeing films like Jurassic Park, A Time to Kill, Pulp Fiction and then Star Wars as Mace Windu, Changing Lanes etc.

The issue with me has now become, I see Samuel L. Jackson in the movie, I don't see his character, unless it's something like Django Unchained. He's no longer a chameleon who can blend into roles but stands out.

This is the superstardom effect. It happened with Jennifer Lawrence, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, DiCaprio, SJax, etc...

The actor eventually becomes bigger than the roles they play and the roles end up becoming them.

I don’t know Samuel L Jackson, to best of my knowledge haven't played golf w/him & think he does too many TV commercials—boring. Not a fan.

Read the apology and stop looking to be angry about it.

Sam Rubin said:
“I pride myself on the fact — that unlike a lot of people who do this kind of work — more often than not, I really do know what I’m talking about. But I didn’t 30 minutes ago, and I’m really embarrassed about it, and I very much apologize to Samuel L. Jackson and anyone else who was offended for what was a very amateur mistake.”

He wasn't talking about The Avengers or Captain America when he made the comment. He only found out that Capt America ran an ad after the fact. He didn't do his due diligence and as a result put Sam in a position to feel insulted. He apologized.

Rubin is a veteran reporter with decades of work for an LA based news station. He's not some poor guy whose career is ruined with this. He messed up, Jackson jokingly laid it on him, he apologized. The world moved on.

Read his apology again. He makes it clear that he did not confuse Jackson with Fishburne, and that he did know about the Captain America ad, but that he was so dumbfounded by Jackson's accusation that he failed to bring it up. See:

Of course a “Captain America” ad had also run during the Super Bowl, but I immediately felt so dumb, I didn’t bring that up

He did not mess up until after Jackson called him out - completely unreasonably, because there was nothing about his comments to indicate that he was talking about the Fishburne ad at all - and his only failing was that he didn't defend himself properly.
