So I think its fair to assume that everyone has had the chance to experience the great feeling of having a canker sore. I can't exactly recall how many I've had since I was little but they've varied in annoyance. As of right now I have one of the little bastards on the lower part of my mouth.

I've read that milk is the best route to take for soothing the slight pinching feeling, as it also helps to speed up the healing process. Is there anything else I can try? I know acidic drinks don't help much either.

everytime one of these things pop up i use zilactin and it eventually goes away :D also helps since it puts a film over the sore so u dont really feel it

I get them fairly frequently when I bite my mouth.. which is common for me.

I noticed a while back that if I feel one coming on, I regularly wash with Listerine, like 4 or 5 times a day, and before I go to bed and it either prevents it from forming or makes it go away quickly.

I'd rather have my face kicked with a steel toe boot than have a canker sore. Those damn things are so f'ing annoying.

Isn't it a form of herpes? Never had that either.

Long canine teeth that happen to bite the inside of your mouth is a common cause, as well as stress of various causes.

Hmmm. Well anyway haven't had them. Guess I'm lucky. Always thought a cold sore and a canker sore were the same thing.

I get them a lot. They are reaaallly painful. Watch some ketchup fall over one in my lip and my eyes will tear up. =P

This is what happens to me. I bite into my inside cheeks, a day later enough bacteria has gotten in there that it turns into a canker sore.

I'm telling you man, I've suffered from these for YEARS... as soon as I figured out the Listerine thing, I've never had one again. I will destroy my mouth, wash it like crazy and it won't happen.

Canker sores are the worst!

Hate it when they keep popping up on my penis. Anyone know any creams to help out with the problem?

:lol :lol :lol

I think they must be stress/diet related. I used to get them all the time when I was in university and I was staying up late writing papers and drinking loads of cola/coffee. Now that I have graduated and I'm in a relatively low stress job, I don't get them nearly as much. I also drink much less cola. However, when I start working loads of hours with little sleep, and tonnes of coffee...... they come back again!

used to get em alot as a kid. But haven't had one in years. *knocks on wood*
I like to tease my friends and family about having herpes whenever they get a canker sore, because im a mean bastid like that.

i just got over one on the right side of my mouth. they are the devil's invention, I swear. And everything that I ate felt like acid.

Ok so a few days ago I bit the side of my tongue pretty bad and the next day a huge fucking canker sore formed :( This is probably the most painful one I've ever experienced; I can barely drink fluids and I'm trying to avoid eating as often because of the damn pain. Are there any effective remedies anyone has tried? Usually I just deal with the pain until it's gone but this is just too much.

I get them a lot as well. I used to use Zilactin and it was pretty good, but hurts like a motherfucker until 30 seconds after you apply it. Recently I've been using mouth wash instead and it has been relatively effective. Doesn't hurt as much.

I dont get them as often as I did back when I was a kid, though nowadays ill be c-sore free for like most of the year then theres always that one fuckin day where my teeth go berserk and start biting various parts of the gums and lips during eating >_>

I'll end up with like 4-5 simultaneous sores that plague me for 2-3 weeks. FML

I've read that vitamin b-12 deficiencies along with stress, and other stuff tend to trigger them. I had one start flaring up a couple of weeks ago but I put a dropper full of B-12 supplement in my mouth and held it against the area for a minute or so and the ulcer started healing up the next day. It might have been a coincidence, (it was the first time I've tried that) but I'm going to give it another shot the next time.

Edit: holy shit. While I usually shy away from "alternative" treatments, this site also says that a deficiency of B12 causes tingly fingers, which I've been having off and on for several months. I'll have to see if taking this regularly helps.

Get some Bourbon and start drinking from the bottle. It'll sanitize the inside of your mouth and you'll eventually get wasted enough that the pain wont be so bad.

I used to get them non fucking stop for about 3 or 4 years, spoiled my christmas dinner and many other occasions. I had to go to hospital because I had stomach problems (unrelated to the sores) and found out I had an autoimmune disorder which probably caused them, the hospital just gave me some special vitamin milkshakes and I haven't had any sores since then (probably almost a year).

I know this is of no help to anyone else :D

oh god! Don't even say that shit, I started to cringe.

I think I got them a lot when I was particularly over-stressed, I remember frequent sores per month, but NEVER more than one at a time, which was weird. Anyway, salt water in the mouth usually helped speed up the healing process for me. Goddamn mouth-ulcers. And my long/sharp ass teeth.

You're thinking of a cold sore.

We need a disclaimer in the OP or something.

You know that small flap of skin that connects your gums to the inside of your lip?

Had one on that three weeks ago.

I will never forget it.

That's a frenulum. I only know this because I had one of mine removed.

I get them whenever I drink a lot of acidic fruit juice. Coincidentally, my favorite drink is pineapple juice. I'm in a constant war with my taste buds.

Rinse with warm salty water. It speeds up the healing.
