Capcom announces Dead Rising 2 for US (Press Release inside)

No. like save when you want.
Barely surviving a boss fight then going on an epic, blood soaked, zombie-slaughtering journey to reach a check point while limping is one of the things that made Dead Rising great.

This. This is the core essence of everything that is Dead Rising. Throw in a countdown and a couple of skateboards and some chainsaws and you have the entire first game. :lol Only thing I would change from the game is adding online co-op.

There's a shitload of savepoints and shortcuts in Dead Rising, you guys just need to learn how to use the map.

Awesome. Haven't played first one yet but I'm gonna play it once for sure.

Frank as co-op partner may be? Capcom knows co-op can be really big thing in this game. Pretty sure they are watching L4D.

Co-op in RE5 hopefully translates into co-op in DR2.

Press releases are like this. Don't get your hopes up.

Hmm, how hard is getting to 5 and 7 days (I think) in Infinite mode? I just remembered I didn't do those yet... All I remember is your life goes down and health items don't respawn...

Oh for fuck's sake people. It's going to be like Onimusha. Ugly as fuck in the second title just so the third one can be "OMG FRANK IS BACK! SPOOGE!'

Or a prequel where we play as a guy who looks just like frank.

Why is everyone so eager to play this on the PS3?
Anyway, surprise this game is being developed right near my area (in Vancouver now).

Wow so just watched the teaser and didn't know anything about the game. A casino is a genius setting to this game. Was thinking what could be more encompassing than a mall and wasn't quite sure but this definitely fits the bill.

Looks great and I'm hyped for more Dead Rising, but count me among the people missing Frank. I'm sure he'll turn up somewhere in this game, though. He's too awesome a character to leave out completely.

Why wouldn't they be?

Most of us who want it on PS3 want the first one on PSN, too. Dead Rising is fuck awesome.

If they only own a ps3, they probably never played or compelled enough to get a 360 to play dead rising, right?

ctrl-f "getting dr2 for 360" = not found in this thread?

Holy fucking shit! Is this my birthday? Is this Christmas? GAAAAHHH! 2009 IS TEH YEAR OF CAPCOM!! AND OF ZOMBIES!!!!!

I had a 360 and now I do not. You need to get over this shit.

So is Capcom Japan co-developing or is it Blue Castle with some members of the original team supervising? The PR hints at the former but it isn't that clear.

Dead Rising wasn't just great, it was probably the first game where I really started to love the Xbox Achievements. Saving all the people was soooo frustrating, but at the end of the day it was THE essence of the game. Would have never done it without the achievements though.

So yeah, I can't wait for the sequel.

I can deal with the save system. It's not as bad as people say it is. It's the fucking time limit that I hate. The whole game felt like I was being rushed.

Yeah, but that's probably what the developers wanted, you know. Also that's what I loved about the game.

I've never understood this argument. You can do whatever the hell you like in the game. Go stand at the helipad at the start of the game and fly away at the end if you don't like being rushed around.

please don't do these drive-by-comments. they don't make you clever or controversial, just a giant douche.

Hey now, Jubei was cool and modeled after a famous, late actor. :P

DR1 is the only game that compels me to get a 360. Take that away and I don't care anymore. It's not a slight against the 360, but more a celebration for Capcom. Yay!
And no, the Wii abomination doesn't count.

PS3 in your press release, stealin' your exclusives!

Naw, but seriously. Why wouldn't they be eager to play it? Some of these people don't have a 360, and missed out on one of the most pure fun games of this gen. Or, they just prefer to game on their PS3. I'd rather this stay exclusive and push the hardware, but I don't believe Capcom would be doing that anyways.

How will the zombie redefining Left 4 Dead affect this I wonder?

You'll have to kill 53,596 zombies in order to get the Zombie Genocide achievement.

And while I support the one save per game, I REALLY want to have multiple saves for separate games (without creating new profiles). Sometimes I want to play Infinity Mode, sometimes I want to play Story Mode. Having to delete my save because I want to do one over the other sucks.

Oh, and make a mode where I can't starve to death.

The main character looks like enough of a twat where maybe he could wear a hands free headset for radio calls. I'm not fussed either way.

Man I'm glad I tried my hand at DR again because of this announcement. First time I tried the game nothing really worked or clicked because I didn't have a plan. Now I just ignore all the missions and focus on getting stronger. Made it to level 12 and now I'm really having fun. Speed upgrade helps a lot. Next playthrough I'll probably start doing the missions.

Sweet. Even the PC crowd get a bite of the apple..... or brains.

Depending on which way you look at it.

EDIT - But in saying that. Come on Capcom. Slap Dead Rising on PSN. Surely it wouldn't be that hard to so.

I forgot how good Video Gaiden was, thanks for this.
Sadly, that version cuts off the ending, and I couldn't find a more complete version. His points about why Frank West is a great character:

1. He's really ugly.
2. He's a big asshole.
3. [Censored]

I especially agree with the third one.

As a 360 owner, I'm really happy DR2 is going multiplatform. The more people who can enjoy it, the better. Some things are just too good to keep to one console.

I'm also glad to see that they get Dead Rising. I remember watching that review ages ago, twas great.

Capcom's whole "no HD console exclusives" thing, coupled with some damn fine PC support, as well as their consistently good games, makes them the best Japanese third party at the moment, in my opinion. By far.

The only thing left is Dead Rising. Someone mentioned the PSN store. That's perfect, make it happen, Capcom.
