My new favorite RPG.

Just got back.

The first hour really sucks. It felt a lot like winter soldier. You could feel people getting bored in the audience. My wife fell asleep a few times, but didnt felt she missed anything important when she woke up

Then after this first hour or so the movie became an Avengers movie... and from this point on its really great.

Is this supposed to be a negative? Feeling like Winter Soldier sounds great.

Man, i hate winter soldier. Watched it 3 times trying to understand why do you guys love it so much, but i just dont get it

But i think most people will agree that the first hour or so of Civil War really drags. And i thought it felt a lot like winter soldier

(And then the movie shifts completely, which for me (and for the audience in the theater) was great)

Fantastic movie. I will watch it again.

Black Panther is really really good.

Zemo is a refreshingly different and effective villain.

I watched it yesterday. And I really enjoyed it, it felt a lot like Winter Soldier in terms of tone. There's still some humor there, but not as in your face as other Marvel films (which makes you appreciate when those funny moments do come out). The action scenes were fantastic, and you all probably know which set piece will stand out, but I was surprised at one point in that scene, which probably stood out the most for me:

The airport action sequence was fantastic, especially the part where Ant man runs wild. Paul Rudd killed it in this movie, and he stole the show for me.

The movie does start slow, but I felt that it helped a lot with the pacing and the set-up of the entire movie, there was probably one part where I said to myself, 'that felt tacked on.' But given the context of how that scene came together, I guess it was fine.

I'm really excited for the next avengers knowing that the Russo brothers are going to direct the movie. They pulled off handling this large cast well, with a lot of moving parts. That must have been real tough to do, but they pulled it off really well.

First time I've seen anyone say this and I've been reading a lot of reviews and impressions.

Man, I didn't know anyone disliked Winter Soldier. That's crazy to me. Well, good to hear the movie is a lot like Winter Soldier. It remains the best damn movie in the MCU.

Can't say that I agree at all. There was no moment for me that dragged on (well on the credits), considering that I had to go the toilet but I didn't as I didn't want to miss anything.

It's okay. Your opinion is wrong. It happens.

Watched it last night, will go again sometime this weekend.

LOVED it. First of all my major fear was unfounded: it's still very much a Captain America movie.

But all the other players work so well in it. This, for the first time, feels like a film actually taking place in the Marvel universe. Where the Avengers are like reunions or planned get-togethers, here it feels simply as if the universe is populated with these characters and they appear where they ought to be in the story.

Best part: Spiderman.
Bestest part:
Hot aunt May

Just got back from seeing it. It's alright, it's pretty good, far from great though. The first act has some massive pacing issues, it's balancing a lot of plates before it gets reigned in a bit. Biggest issue is tonal inconsistencies, the biggest offender being the transition from the Spider-Man introduction to Tony's next few lines towards Cap. I also didn't super dig where everyone's left at the end of the movie, considering how this movie was treating the consequences of everyone's actions, and it didn't really push that home. Well it might have, but that last shot kind of hinted the other way.

Overall I'm pretty mixed, although it has some of the highest highs of any Marvel film.

Also I'm convinced Emily VanCamp is 75% Jennifer Lawrence.

Good? I mean are you suggesting the first hour feels like Winter Soldier? If so that's awesome. I'm guessing the first hour is all set up for what is going to happen, so that's all good for me.

Also if someone fell asleep near me I'd throw my coke in their face, I don't know, I just feel like someone falling asleep in a movie is super disrespectful - just me.

Just finished. Amazing movie. Still think winter solider is a liitle bit better. For me, Avengers 1 = winter soldier > civil war.

Airport fight is really great, best action in MCU. Love Black Panther and spidey.

Wich means that i'll love the first half but then hate the second one, ok

I also currently think I like Winter Soldier a tiny bit more, but all in all I am just impressed by the Russo upgrade EVERYONE got.

Had a bit too much of build up for me too.. cannot explain, but there were parts where I also was a little bit bored, but the build up was important and there could have been even more. Still nice to see how they paced everything.

I'd like to note I chortled a laugh every time Black Panther did anything of note -- as it was always accompanied with a little pan flute riff.

I definitely agree; the first act drags on for a bit in trying to get everyone in place, introducing Panther and setting up the stakes. Winter soldier didn't quite have the same pacing issues because there was constant threat from shield and hydra keeping the tension up. However, Civil War pays off beautifully in the second half, and I would argue has the best third act of all the marvel movies.

The trailers have me a LITTLE worried. The only thing I want to know about this movie is how the Black Panther is handled. In the comics when handled correctly, he's usually the smartest and most dangerous man in the room. He's a boss, and feels like it. He's easily as smart as Tony, but with the technological chops and resources of Wakanda to back him up. He's also a fighter that could put Cap in his place. Basically, he's a super competent batman. In the comics and in the Earths Mightiest Heroes cartoon, he's one of the few people that cap respects and can shut Tony down. He's the guy that will parlay with Namor and Dr. Doom because these men have kingdoms to rep.

Black panther is not just some angry black dude. He's like if you gave Malcolm X the authority of Obama with the swagger of Denzel and the cunning of Batman at his most sneaky. Always five steps ahead.

Did THAT dude show up in this movie? That's who I want to see.

Kind of, but not to the extent that you want to see.

He's got swagger, but he is sort of reduced to "I'm angry at X because of Y so now I wish to Z."

He's easily got one of the best moments in the film near the end, though.

just got back from seeing this

it was really fun :) really, really enjoyed it

still letting it sink in, will be back with more coherent impressions *____*

My only major grips with this film are (spoilers):
* Spidey seems to (barely) have a Spider-sense and is surprised by stuff a lot.
* Bucky is not used much despite being a central character. I don't mind him being stoic but you've got to do /something/ with him.
* Ant-Man and Spider-Man joining because ?? was a bit weird, but I guess I'll overlook that to get them.

Things I was surprised by and liked (didn't see in any trailer, etc.)
* Wanda/Vision's characters and relationship was used very well, I would have even liked to see more.
* The music in the fights was good, in the second part of the airport fight and the final fight - it was intense but kinda sad because they're fighting eachother.
* When "QUEENS" showed up on screen I nearly squee'd.

Now the wait for Spidey 2017 begins.

Both respectively idolize Cap and Stark

Yeah I got that, but I felt like that alone isn't enough for Ant-man to possibly go to jail again considering his daughter and everything. And for Stark to bring in Spidey who is an unidentified minor in what is seemingly a government-sanctioned mission is quite odd.
