Captain America: Civil War Review Thread

The only thing Civil War really needs to do (in my opinion) to be better than Winter Soldier is have a better third act/final 20 minutes.

From the sounds of it, it does so while simultaneously going above and beyond in having a complex question hanging throughout the movie at it's emotional center, as well as providing fantastically made interpretations of things that people have long been waiting for.

Shit.

man Marvel struck fucking gold with the Russo bros

im trying to not get hyped since over hype is bad bad bad but this and the spoiler thread aint making it easy, damn this 3 week early screening shit. MAHVEL PLS

Am I the only one who feels it's unfair to compare batman vs superman with this movie. I been seeing even critics do it which isn't nice, it makes this whole DC vs marvel fandom nonsense that isn't necessary

why is it unfair? they are both superhero movies that have a theme of two heroes fighting against each other.

I mean, they are two superhero movies with the theme of an conflict between heroes that released close to each other, compassion makes somewhat sense.

So were those clips we've been seeing actually edited for TV or is that how it looks in the movie? This one in particular. It seems weird to me that the editing looks so shoddy there when I don't recall having that problem in WS.

that clip is heavily edited. there is a 1 minute version out there, and even that is edited.

edit: and why wouldnt critics compare bvs and civil war? both tackle similar topics, one seems to succeed in pretty much all of them, while the other doesnt. a comparison is valid.

What exactly would "proper" Thor entail?

The only thing I can think of for Hulk is that he needs to grow in size the angrier he gets. That seems jarringly absent in the MCU Hulk.

The only Hulk upgrade they need to do is Merged Hulk. I think Age of Ultron ended with a pretty good opening for that to happen, but it really depends on what the next set of directors are going to do with it.

And then later, Maestro.

They're two superhero movies based on a conflict between heroes. They came out fairly close to each other and neither exists in a vacuum. How would it be unfair to draw comparisons?

It's totally fair. They're both films in the same genre after all. If fanboys take it personal, that's on them.

Sure. As long as you also think it's unfair to compare A Bug's Life and Antz, or Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down, or Armageddon and Deep Impact.

Honestly Civil War and BvS appear to be two of the most similar comic book films to come out in such proximity to each other ever. Both in their subject material and thematic material.

Comparing to similar works of art is totally fine and doesn't have anything to do with fanboyism.

Public at large and reviewers were not the ones who came up with batshit insane #SupportDCFilms, where many of the supporters harassed, slandered and in extreme cases, being racist and homophobic all because others, especially reviewers, dare to dislike their fave movies.

I'm most excited to see Spider-Man in action.
Does he feature in important action scenes and is the action well choreographed and shot? I'm hoping for something that can rival the Spider-Man action scenes in Spider-Man 1 and 2.

He doesn't appear a lot so temper your expectations for that. He's also not the star of the movie.

But oh boy.

Yeah not expecting him to get much screen time, but when he is on screen is he involved in any awesome action scenes? I just want to see Spider-Man doing some cool shit on the big screen again.

I don't want to go into the spoiler thread because spoilers but there's one thing I want answered that will not impact my enjoyment of the film.

Is there a scene/are there several scenes that allude to Thanos, the infinity gauntlet and infinity war? Be it during the movie or in post credit sequences? If anybody could answer in spoiler tags, that'd be peachy! Thanks.

Trust..you're gonna love the kid.

Zero. Thanos is not in this at all..

17 reviews on RT now and still 100%,very strong start but sounds like it's well deserved what I've been hearing about it. So hyped for this now, bring on next week.

I just ordered tickets to see this again. I'm such a Panther fanboy now. Comic fans, does he ever lead the Avengers? Because I want to see him screaming orders and wrecking shit.

In this newest Avengers; I think it's called the New Avengers or the Illuminati where he's more close to the center of leadership, but I don't think he's the leader.

Black Panther is without a doubt the best superhero, and my favorite of all-time.

But you can't deny that at some level, it fuels that kind of culture. Not saying comparison shouldn't be done but the way it's used seem to encourage the whole fandom thingy

if you're talking about Hickman's run I just finished that, was really great. I'm not too familiar with standalone black panther comics but I really liked him in New Avengers. the problem (kind of) with that run is that it's a lot. you've really gotta read both Avengers and New Avengers and the story is dense as fuck.

Yep. It's actually super good, but yeah. It was super hard to follow because I didn't really know that I had to read the Avengers along with it.
