The resolution of the palladium poisoning arc and Whiplash going down like a bitch were the only bad parts IMO, never got the hate for Fury's appearance

It seemed like the avengers stuff was really forced in that film, it was nearly BvS levels of JUST STOP.

but yeah, i never understood the extreme dislike for IM2. It's not a terrible film at all.

I really dislike the engineering montage, mostly because it's a pale imitation of the one in Iron Man 1. Fury was fine.

Oh cmon now, IM2 has one of the most fist-pumpingly excellent action sequences in the MCU, love Tony and Rhodey clearing out the drones

And it's got Natasha being hot!

And one of the best character moments for Tony

IM2's a good movie despite its villain shortcomings

Hahaha, yeah, I'm just screwing around. Personally, I wouldn't skip any of these movies (although, Thor 2...). They're all great. And I'm especially not going to skip one with Sam Goddamn Rockwell. I hope they bring him back someday.

Crazy good review scores

dunno about spoilers.

Man....and RDJ gets a cut of the profits from this movie?

I personally never felt that way, it was a logical place to go from the SHIELD setup in IM1 and its got Coulson at his finest

"If you attempt to leave the premises I will tase you and watch Supernanny while you drool into the carpet."

It was weak to have Fury provide the secret key to solving his issue though for sure.

I think IM2 works really well if you take it at face value. It's very much a continuation of Tony's arc from the first movie. It just loses the oomph by sticking a villain in who has more to do with Howard than Tony. I never felt like Tony was fully motivated to stop Vanko, he just felt like a speed bump to him.

Jon Favreau talks Civil War:

Jungle Book director Jon Favreau has been talking about Captain America: Civil War, stating that he thinks the Marvel movies are in "good hands" with the Russo brothers, and revealing that he loves the chemistry that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has with Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark in the forthcoming film.

Favreau directed the first Iron Man movie – which put the building blocks in place for the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and continues to executive produce the features, meaning that he got an early look at the new film.

“I think Spider-Man made me smile every second the character was on the screen,” he revealed. “I was so pleased with the tone of the film in general, but those sequences specifically, and I just loved the way they introduced the character. I love the version of Tony Stark I saw, especially in those scenes. As somebody who was part of the beginning of the screen persona of Tony Stark, I thought that this was really impressive and a wonderful expansion of that character.”

As for the movie itself, Favreau said, “I just felt – as a filmmaker who had been part of establishing this universe – I thought that it was in really good hands with these guys and I was pleased. And as an audience member I was just smiling, and it’s nice to smile your way through a film. The audience is in for a treat, and I didn’t even see it finished so I’m sure it’s gotten even better.”

If Civil War this ends up getting a higher RT score than TDK GAF is gonna be a very ugly place for awhile.

I'd love to see it - not necessarily for the reactions, but the idea that comic book movies are 'evolving' or are getting better and better over time is exciting to me. We're, hopefully, not stagnant at that 'TDK was the best superhero movie of all time and will never be surpassed' plateau with CBMs that just remain 'decent' or 'good', but with those that really shoot for the stars with enormous ambition like Civil War.

It goes against every fiber of my being to say that Civil War will be surpassed by Infinity War because it seems an impossible feat to undertake, but I said the the exact same damn thing about Winter Soldier. Russo brothers have my full and complete trust.

Nothing will come close to Snyder stopping BvS so that we could see some QuickTime teasers for other movies.

Question: Are the Russo bros big Marvel fans? I ask because they might be the dream directors for these Marvel films. They hit two home runs so far with Winter Soldier and Civil War, and barring some bullshit, Infinity Wars should be great too.

I look at the other three directors that I consider god tier superhero movie directors:

Nolan: Passionate, extremely talented, but was absolutely done after three and no one can convince him otherwise.

Raimi: Passionate, extremely talented, grew up with and has a love for the source material but the studio fucked him on the third one and he was gone at that point.

Whedon: Very talented, has a closer connection to the source material than any of the above... but got super burnout after the first Avengers, the second one felt that burnout, and now he's done until the foreseeable future.

With the Russos, we could be looking at a team that has as much passion and love for the material as the guys above, as much talent as the guys above, and are willing to make as many films as they are asked of, don't seem burned out at all from what I've heard, and Marvel seemingly lets them do their own thing (i.e no Sony/Raimi situation).

Basically, after Civil War, I trust these guys. I trust them hard. I trust them with the keys to the MCU going forward, and as long as they continue to make films with awesome storytelling, humour and some of the best fight choreography in the genre, I hope they do this for a long, long time.

I think James Gunn will join your roster when GOTG2 is released.

While I'm not a fan of the whole Marvel vs DC nonsense, it's pretty hilarious how two conceptually similar superhero movies released only a few weeks apart got such different reactions. Some serious whiplash.

I enjoyed BvS, but the comparison between the two ends at concept. Civil War is by leaps and bounds a better movie. It's actually pretty crazy how well this concept was handled in Civil War, makes BvS look even worse. WB should be even more disappointed at what it put out.

It resonated because it's long form story telling. Whereas BvS had to set up and then resolve within one movie. I saw this as someone who really loved BvS.

All the Avengers stuff made me like that movie more. Way more.

You also had pretty similar marketing; for example, the posters with the two principle characters facing off with the logo in the center.

I hope Snyder is fucking embarrassed. I hope he walks out of the theater feeling the utmost shame.

But he probably won't.

"I ... I just don't think they got the aesthetic right, I dunno. Good on them ... but ... did they ... you know? I dunno"

I've watched a lot of the press stuff for Civil War and they say they've been reading comic books their whole lives, with Spider-Man being their favorite hero.

It was such a disservice to the movie to try and cram in so many things in one. I kinda feel for Snyder having to deal with all that. Should have at least been spread into 2.

Tribalism is a natural human instinct.

When it comes to real world politics, it terrible.

But when applied to comic films, its hilarious.
It really is hilarious..

No joke, dude next to me taps me on the shoulder and asked "Is it just me or was this movie kind of like BvS?" All I could do is laugh in agreement, while thinking how funny that conversation would be on GAF..
