One of my favorite Thanos moments is an early appearance in Silver Surfer V3 #35 where he's basically fucking around.

He spends half the issue teleporting the Surfer through different planets while explaining his ideologies about death and balance, then drops a twist. Such an asshole lol.

Thanos is great in the comics but his plan in the MCU is vague for now. All his scenes are,

That AoU credits scene. "Fine. I'll do it myself." Do what? Collect the infinity stones? Buddy, you lost the one stone you had.

Not only Thor but they'll do great with Hulk too.

Have to hand it to Whedon, Hulk is cool in Avengers 1. I'm nice like that.

You know I hope we get this scene in Infinity Wars, or when we get our first teaser trailer, you just hear voiceover bits from all the previous MCU films, then it fades into this scene.

And you just hear his fingers snap... man I can't fucking wait!!

If they do it (hopefully they will, with it being a major iconic part of this storyline) you know that's probably how Part 1 is going to end, leaving us waiting a year for Part 2.

That would sure make the Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel movies a little awkward. Though to be fair, I'm not sure what kind of compelling ending they could have to part 1 where the two (at the moment) planned solo films in between don't feel strange.

If there is any one failing of the MCU, it's that Phase 2 is now over and they've *still* hardly even begun to setup The Infinity War and Thanos, particularly with regard to the stones. Outside of a couple post credits cameos, his only real screen appearances are two tiny scenes in Guardians; one of which we see him kinda act like a boss for a moment, and in the next the jobber villain of the movie FaceTimes him to sell out to his ass and tell him he's jacking the stone and he can't do shit about it. Then the Dark World post credits scene that two shouldn't be stored in the same place. Other than that there's the blink and you'll miss it Thor vision in AoU that sort of finally sets up the Infinity Stones, which is kinda the only real setup for what's to come. What they've done is a kind of wink to comic fans in the know, but for general audiences this stuff probably should have taken a more prominent role, especially in Phase 2; it certainly would have led to a more cohesive long form story arc. I'm not even expecting that to change with CW, so it may even take until Ragnarok for the ball to get rolling. What they've done isn't bad, but it could've been handled better.

I hope they tweak Thanos' look a little for Infinity War, at least the eyes.

I don't want to see Thanos and be reminded that it's Josh Brolin, his eyes should be glowing and surrounded by shadow.

Make that finger snap destroy NOVA Corps planet or Knowhere.

I'd be surprised. MCU might be a little too saccharine to kill that many people at once.

I wish Marvel could get the Fantastic Four collection of characters back to do the Cosmos stuff justice in the MCU.

Fox has the Fantastic Four in their control for at least seven more years.

Thanos Quest is fucking awesome and Thanos is fucking badass in it :lol I hope they show him flying on his space chair, will look ridiculous yet amazing.

I mean, what happens after that is already as "family friendly" as something like that can possibly be since people simply disappear into thin air (and are restored at the end). It's the best and most iconic way to showcase the power of the stones and position him as a massive threat, with the heroes freaking out on Earth, etc.

They'll definitely tone him down for the hand-to-hand combat though.

lol yes. I'm glad that GotG already shows that they aren't shying away from the flying chair.

Rented Winter Soldier on Redbox this morning. Planning to crack open a bottle of wine and watch it tonight for the first time since I saw it in theaters. I'm so fucking pumped.

I thought the main complaint of things like Iron Man 2 and to an extent Age of Ultron was that they had stuff in those movies to set up a future event that distracted from the story there.

Marvel has generally thus far made films that stand on their own despite the larger tie ins and connections to the rest of the universe. Putting a significant part of the setup to Infinity War in a bunch of other movies would be a mistake, IMO. I won't disagree that they could have done a bit better teasing Thanos or showing him lurking in the background but I don't think they really need to do much building for Infinity War prior to it. The benefit of a two parter is that in theory you have plenty of time to both set up and resolve the conflict.

At the very least, give Brolin some big fake teeth and shadow up around his eyes.

I've not cared for those complaints much; Iron Man 2 has problems, but setting up Fury/Widow isn't really one of them. Fury has a role in the plot helping Tony solve the riddle (admittedly the weaker point), and Widow plays her part in the story by raiding Hammer's lab and ultimately freeing Rhodey in the final confrontation. That it helps setup Avengers is a convenient byproduct of their actual plot roles, and a fun nod to the future.

Regarding the teasing, I think we agree; even if they had kept Thanos' running time the same as it already is, but show him actually gaining power in the background (perhaps by acquiring a stone rather than mean-mugging the camera) and not getting punked by a nobody villain that is dead an hour later.

That is a benefit of a two-parter, but it's just been a missed opportunity considering the stones themselves go all the way back to what, the Tesseract in CA:TFA/Loki's scepter in the Avengers, both in Phase 1, but it took like 5 or 6 more movies to even establish those definitively as stones (again, to unwashed masses); and Thanos isn't any closer to getting them, if anything he's worse off. It's gonna be stupid if Thanos has two movies to get six stones (and as I've said before, I'm imagining Thanos will kill Vision for the last stone in a cliffhanger at the end of IWP1, so... one movie), they should have started that ball rolling by now, if not sooner.

Agree to disagree, I guess.

I think it's better in the long run that they don't spend too much time setting up infinity war since one of the reasons they've done so well is that the movies are all standalone so ou don't have to watch all of them if you don't want to. Some sort of show of power from Thanos in guardians would have been appreciated so that those following along would get why he's such a threat though.

Not really a comic reader, but I do read Thanos #1-12 trying to follow the whole cosmic marvel thing and love the guy.
He's such a weirdo and I love seeing everyone reaction towards him.

Agreed on the threat point. Regarding your first point, what difference does it make whether someone locked a stone in a vault/Thor carried it off to Asgard/etc or it fell into Thano's hands after the movie is wrapped up? Either way it's out of the equation for several films but in my example, Thanos is becoming a credible and looming threat. Like I said, what they've done isn't terrible, it just could've been done better.

Fwiw, I think that's far better than the reality.
