How can he be more charming in this single gif than he is in two entire movies? Stupid, Snyder.

It must be fun being a critic. You have all the power in the world to turn good DC fans...cruel.

"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read."

I'm waiting for DC fans to see this so we can finally get some objective reviews.

"So boring and souless that I fell asleep, even with Dolby Atmos blasting in the background. The characters are one dimensional cutouts whose sole reason for existing is to deliver quips and move the cookie cutter plot forward. However, all of this can be expected from a company that values flashy visuals and gimmicks over deeper explorations into mythology, ethics, and the human psyche."

Now give us the Marvel fan version.

for me it was just not 'funny' enough.
i liked the Avenger quips. this had almost none, i bet that's why people love Spidey so much because he's the only fun part about it.

What is even so bad about Iron Man 3?

Great dynamic between Tony/Rhodey, good action especially with the switch-in/switch-out of the suits that really demonstrate Tony's intelligence, skydiving scene was awesome, Tony's acting as per usual, the kid was pretty tolerable for a child actor, Killian was meh but his powers were awesome, etc.

At the very least, it's extremely different for your average MCU film. It stands out pretty well.

Roger Ebert could write a one paragraph review of a Cheetos commercial, and it would have more insight into what makes film work or not work than everything Faraci has written in his life combined.

it's a great movie. the entire movie plays with the concept of identity so marvelous.

lol hardly

His BvS review was word-for-word on fucking point. The dude could stand to be a little less Marvel-biased but the he's a solid writer whether you like him or not.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen Faraci think something is just "okay." It seems to be on the extremes with that dude.

Yep, his podcast "The Canon" is one of the best film podcasts around, even if he is occasionally a bit of a dick in it. You guys here should check out their Batman ('89) V Superman ('78) episode.

Well this movie is supposed to be about a Civil War between heroes......

Its not supposed to be a quipfest.

These movies should take themselves seriously, IMO. It's not possible for a movie to take itself too seriously unless we're talking about Deadpool.

The occasional moment of levity is great, but I do prefer to see the filmmaker explore the world and characters as though that world actually existed.

Film review – Captain America: Civil War (or why Civil War is better than Batman vs Superman)

I feel sorry for DC fans. Marvel continues to hit it out of the park with its movies. They made an Ant-Man movie and one with a talking raccoon in it for chrissake, but DC can’t even get Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman to work well in a movie together.

Now, where do I collect my Marvel shill cheque?

We recommend

LOL.

Now give us the Marvel fan version.

"The Russos have done the impossible in topping their efforts on The Winter Soldier, one of the best political thrillers of the 21st century. RDJ and Evans deliver award worthy performances as two men struggling to balance their loyalty to their comrades with their commitment to their ideals. Your heart will break as you are forced to chose between two brilliantly reasoned point of views. The action scenes will leave you breathless as you are introduced to a Black Panther ripped straight from the pages of Marvel Comics and the first live action Spider-man to really match the image of the character that you have had in your head sonce childhood. Marvel continues their winning streak with their best effort to date"

still a damn comic book movie, it's almost DC level of taking it far too serious.

I dunno, Tony was still Tony Snark in this movie, even in the face of the emotional journey he was going through, and the stuff between Falcon and Bucky is great. Heck, Falcon himself is pretty funny. Did you want Age of Ultron levels of snark to derail and undermine the whole thing?

Just watched Iron Man 3 for the first time since the initial theater run last night. It's a solid MCU film, but if I was going to be hypercritical of it, I'd say some of the digressions into humor go on much too long (the Tony Stark fanboy bit in the truck especially, but also the security guy subplot) and some of the spectacle strains credibility (why would he blow up functioning suits at the end instead of decommissioning them sensibly? Those have got to cost a million dollars each easily.)

But overall it's a fun ride with good character beats, punchlines and action scenes. Not the best MCU film, but not the worst.
