Captain America: Civil War Review Thread

It definitely has been. Lotta people coming at it backwards from Winter Soldier and Ultron, and discovering a lot of what they liked in there was already present in Cap 1.

Plus I think knowing it's going to be a Spielberg-lite period-piece full of corn right up front helps the film go down like a spoonful of sugar.

People give the MCU stuff shit for all looking and feeling the same, but Cap 1 was a Joe Johnston film through and through. Before it opened I was hyped just because of him. He would be bringing the Rocketeer vibes with him and presenting my second favorite super hero ever.

I am just glad that others are coming around to its charms after all these years.

My only real complaint with the film is they didn't make Red Skull full on crazy Nazi, but I understand why they just made him Hydra.

I completely agree with all of that, though I thought Red Skull was pretty crazy :-P

My biggest gripe with Cap 1 is the train hijack. It looks really bad with painfully obvious green screen and boring camera angles. That's where the film loses a lot of its momentum for me. The montage right before it isn't spectacular but I've actually come around to it with time. It serves its purpose, though I get the complaints around it.

Oh, Red Skull was still crazy, and Weaving nailed it in the role. But I was wanting more Super Nazi. Like, Hitler wasn't extreme enough in his goals.
We had that somewhat, but more the thirst for power, and not in the ideals.

Ah, I see. You're right, he was light on the whole master race talk now that I think about it.

Star spangled man goes on way too long. It could have lost 2/3 and the movie would be better for it.

Everything before Rogers becomes Cap is great.

I think Cap 1 would've benefited from having a time skip instead of a montage. You can still reference all the awesome shit he's done with the Howling Commandos but instead of wasting time on a montage, you can have a nicely paced and well executed action scene that shows the strong bond and camaraderie. This action scene would then end with Bucky's "death" and the rest of the film would continue. Not sure if the rest of the film should stay the same, though. That needs tweaking too.

Cap 1 probably had the best first half of any MCU movie, it just kind of rambled a bit after the rescue from the Hydra base.

It managed to really sell the idea of Cap as a character, it just didn't execute a finale or an action scene worthy of that buildup.

Nah man, I love that they just indulged themselves in playing the full song. It's one of those things that makes the movie special. They had a great moment that is nothing but a great moment and they just let it roll and roll.

Just got back from a showing of the whole trilogy. Hype is very well deserved.

Without saying much, the action and choreography is the best of any Marvel movie and the ingenuity and the thought of how these characters can use their powers blew me away. I've casually read comics for years and I was sitting there like 'holy shit, I never imagined doing that with that power'.

Been in this thread since day one lurking and now it's time to jump to the spoiler thread.

I guess BvS was a gamechanger in that no one has ever fucked up a movie with two of the largest fictional characters ever to such an extent, but hey, what do I know.

All I get is CW ads on Gaf today. Disney paid Neogaf confirmed
