Just came back from watching it.

This movie is fantastic and to me the best one Marvel has put out yet. The action scenes are not only massive in their scale but felt very weighty. Every punch and attack has an impact and while you have a bunch of superheroes with special abilities fighting each other it still felt very grounded without losing too much of the spectacle.

The story itself has some really interesting twists and turns that took me by surprise, especially after having watched the trailers for the movie. There is a lot of emotion since the stakes are high and it's amazing how the entire movie pushes you from agreeing with Tony to agreeing with Cap from scene to scene without feeling forced.

Black Panther was easily one of the coolest superheroes of the movie. Not only is his introduction well done and on point without being bloated, but his motivations make sense and seeing this dude fight with spin kicks and his claws and shit is amazing.

But man.. MAN. I can't help but feel that Spider-Man steals the entire movie. Forget your worries about the suit or Tom Holland: this - to me - might be the best Peter Parker I've ever seen in a movie. This might be the best Spider-Man I've ever seen in a movie. Homecoming has potential to be bombastic and after watching Holland's performance he will kill it.

Watch this movie guys

But like, two other people in this thread didn't like it. :P

I just can't wait to finally see it next week. It'll be good to get the whole family out to the theater.

i haven't heard anyone talk about the sound so far so i want to say a few things:

the soundtrack is really quite forgettable

BUT

the sound effects/design for the action is soooo good

in an early action scene i noticed just how punchy and fucking great each hit sounds - the action scenes are in general some of the best in the MCU but you also feel each blow so much more. it all just sounds so right, there's like an audible crunch to everything

Y'all are paying his bills
(I think I don't know how many views you need to make money)

Edit: Did he just trash The Dark Knight trilogy?!

The Dark Knight is GOAT

Spiderman and Black Panther were the best parts of the movie, they stole the show. They really add new different dimensions (good visual comedy and thinking ahead of just fighting). When they're not part of the movie, it feels like standard Avengers proceedings. It was the first time I saw two women heroes fight together, which was cool even if it was super short. The action scenes were brilliant, especially the airport. Lots of great superhero interplay. But then it just falls apart after that and goes into a finale with weak drama. The villain is possibly the worst in a Marvel movie, and that's saying something. Captain America, Iron Man, and Bucky all act really stupid at the end. Bucky and Cap's friendship was lacking some serious chemistry, it felt fake the whole time. Could be down to Sebastian Stan's uncharismatic acting. The Accord was a badly explained piece of conflict that just served as a distraction, but the comic was kind of bad too so I guess it's faithful to the source material. The score was nothing to write home about, and I guess that just adds to the drama aspects falling flat.

I wish these movies had something deeper under the surface. It's all just vengeance and solving problems with fists. No emotional lynchpin like even the Nolan Batman movies had with Bruce Wayne and Alfred's relationship. There are no relationships here to care about. I'm still waiting for a superhero movie to be like Kingdom Come. Like, really be a drama that takes superheroes seriously, and is about accountability. You can still have an action movie but have well-motivated conflicts, tragedies, revelations, meaningful relationships, and have a deeper meaning than a cartoon. The Nolan Batman movies were the closest to that, even when they failed in the action scenes. Maybe I have too high expectations for superhero movies. It's just disappointing when you can't have a great action movie and a great film, too.

imagine a MCU movie having a memorable score
the first thor and first avengers film have pretty decent scores from what i remember tho

oh is ant-man's okay too? still haven't seen that. disagree with the post on the other page, he wasn't in the film a huge amount but he was really good and had some of the funniest delivery of lines

Like I want my info out there on the internet. Stalked by folks like Bronson

The weirds in kpop thread worship you and you already have a thread in OT dedicated to you. I think you're already being stalked probably.

And Bronson is the size of a baby, what do you have to fear from that?

I know I'm in the minority but I find most of the music in the MCU memorable. I've always been abnormally inclined to remember tunes and melodies though, at least compared to my friends and family.

Avengers, Thor and Guardians had pretty good scores. Iron Man 3 and Cap 1 were decent.

The music was really forgettable, but I liked the refrain they repeated throughout the film.

I've forgotten it though.

I sort of enjoyed the score a little more/little less than The Winter Soldier's though I'm in a minority that generally liked that movie's score. Winter Soldier's theme itself is one hell of a memorable, intimidating villain tune, probably a gem in what most people consider an overall weak score. I also like that emotional string refrain they used in the movie and re-used in this one. Reminds me a little bit of Danny Elfman's melancholy Spider-Man tune that was used across all three Raimi movies.

The only times the score actually stood out to me were those that were variations/somber/insidious versions of tunes that existed in The Winter Soldier already but that was mostly only by association.

oh yeah i guess winter soldier had an alright score too

but this film really doesn't, i literally can't remember a single piece right now. a bit disappointing really :/ but like i said, the sound effects in action scenes are just so fucking satisfying

The original soundtrack by Tyler Bates for GotG is pretty good. It has my favorite theme in the MCU and I like how it's used as a motif in other tracks.

I'm gonna be honest, Guardians is right behind Spider-Man 2 as my favorite comic book movie ever. James Gunn just put so much passion and love into the film and you can feel it in every scene. Shit, I could say the same about Sam Raimi and the Spidey movies.

If you can't remember the Hulkbuster or that great party scene then there's something wrong with your brain, not the movie. :P

And yeah, the chat with Ultron at the end is one of the best villain moments in the MCU.

I seriously don't understand the hate/dislike AoU gets. I watched Avengers 1 and 2 back-to-back like a week ago and they're a lot more similar than I remembered them being. I was with people saying AoU had every character being too quippy and stuff, but when you watch them together like that, it's just not true at all. Avengers 1 was a lot jokier than I remembered, and 2 still had a lot of smaller scenes without any real snark. There's like...10% more quips in AoU, and I think that estimate is high. The biggest difference, I thought, was that 1 has a more focused, tighter story, while 2 had to try to set up things for Civil War and Infinity War, which makes it work less well as a whole. I definitely still think 1 was better, but I also think the difference in quality is overblown.

Guardians was amazing, and nothing since has come close to it. It really has the perfect vibe I want in a comic book movie. Still sits alone at the top, and only Ant-man has impressed me of the recent movies. I'd put Cival War just above Ultron, was a disappointment for me. Spider-man and the
big airport fight scene
were highlights, but otherwise it didn't grab me. When the credits for CW rolled, honestly all I could think was 'man I can't wait for Guardians 2'.

The way some people like to go on about AoU as one of the worst CBMs of all time is nothing short of baffling.

I suppose it's also overblown to use that description for BvS but markedly less so.

I think it coming on the heels of The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy didn't help, but I still think it was better than the first Avengers. I don't think it's a great movie by any means, but it was decently fun other than what happened to Quicksilver.

But then it just falls apart after that and goes into a finale with weak drama.
It doesn't fall apart. At all. If anything the finale is easily one of the most focused ones in a Marvel movie.

The villain is possibly the worst in a Marvel movie, and that's saying something.
He's not. One of the better ones, actually. A bit clichéd motivations, but he's
exactly the kind of villain that isn't all about fist fights & tests of strength. You're contradicting yourself with the whole "why do all of these characters always just fight each other" complaint when not only does the villain not fight anyone head-on, but also one of other more prominent characters in the film decides to not fight.

Captain America, Iron Man, and Bucky all act really stupid at the end.
Sure, Tony acts irrationally/emotionally, but how is that a bad thing considering the context?
Their actions later on are perfectly understandable.

The Accord was a badly explained piece of conflict that just served as a distraction
It's not badly explained at all. It makes A LOT of sense in the grand scheme of things.

No emotional lynchpin like even the Nolan Batman movies had with Bruce Wayne and Alfred's relationship.
Ummm... Even if you don't like Bucky (& thus don't care about his & Steve's friendship), Tony & Steve's friendship is a pretty decent emotional "lynchpin" in the movie. And as far lack of chemistry between Cap & Bucky, you do know the dude has been under the mind fuckery influence of Hydra for decades, right?
It's pretty understandable that he isn't all happy happy joy joy & connecting with Cap on a deeper level. He's understandably fucked up in the head and thus a bit distant towards a friend he's last seen decades ago.
