Cardfight!! Vanguard [OT] - Stand up, my Vanguard!

Not open for further replies.
I didnt realize they were selling 80K decks and 800000 booster packs of vanguard g already (from the third bushinavi show).

Also glad for an Oracle Think Tank deck with new g cards placing in the tournaments.

There's some great support for the "lesser" clans like Dark Irregulars coming up too, I think you'll see a lot of the often ignored clans get played soon.

Fixing up my Great Nature when G-BT02 hits here :)

Vanguard G in general is looking to sort of "start over" if you will. While they're obviously still supporting older builds and units, they also look to be trying to give each clan a fair amount of support while also strengthening the clans' core mechanics to give them a stronger identity while also improving known flaws.

The biggest example of this to me is with Dark Irregulars. For the longest time, they've simply been a "More Soul == More Power" clan with little variation and typically lackluster rear-guards. Now, we're seeing Dark Irregulars with advantage engines and actual rewards for varying tiers of soul, thus presenting a greater reward for doing what the clan actually does.

My family has gotten big into this in the past two weeks. I don't even want to calculate how much I've spent on boosters and trial decks. It's really a great game. I will say, however, that the trial decks are really only good for getting triggers and some cards, and they do a pretty shit job of actually showing the combo potential of the clan.

Timely bump, yay! was wondering if gaf had a vanguard thread (without actually using the search button lol)

I was thinking about jumping into this game and was wondering where a good area to start was? Should I start with the newer trial decks since they have the most updated info for beginners or is there something from the past that is good as well. Same with the cards.

The artwork really attracted me and the variety of the designs. Loved the artwork for the witches and mech cards, Blau -ect- especially, so I was thinking of grabbing a box of that (also helps that its cheap here) a trail deck and like... a handful of boosters of the newest set packs to start off. Is that an ok way to start or would you guys recommend something else?

Btw its partly out of collecting cool cards, partly wanting a fun game to play randomly not out of a hardcore competitive sense... at this point unless I get sucked into it lol.

The newer trial decks are probably the best way to get started, as picking up two of the same trial deck will get you a working deck with many of the necessary components for a deck. There are currently four Vanguard G trial decks, each one for a different clan.

For the purpose of getting a collection of nice cards to look at, it wouldn't hurt to grab some cheap boxes or packs. The key thing to be sure if is that pack will contain what it is you are looking for, as there is quite a bit of variety within the clans themselves. For instance, Blau is just one sub-set of Nova Grappler, but then there are the Beast Deities, Raizers, Death Army, Asura Kaiser, and the Extreme Battlers.

Do note also that, for the purpose of building a playable deck, certain builds won't have a much support as others. Extreme Battlers are the most seen variant right now, but Blau can still work well in the current game, as can Raizers, Asura Kaiser, and, to a lesser extent, Beast Deity. Death Army have been starved for support for a long time, so aside from casual games and collection purposes, it's probably best to sit out on them.

I'd also say to do a little bit of research into what clan you might like, since they all have their own playstyle they go for overall, then have varying ways within each clan as to how that playstyle/strategy goes. From the outside, it seems like a pretty simple game, but the reality is that it is pretty damn intricate and well thought out. There are a lot of mental gymnastics that occur with deck building and comboing, some of which are as intricate as any Magic the Gathering deck. I say this as someone who has played Magic for 21 years, too.

Yeah I've been looking at the wiki and some random unboxing videos online to get an idea of where I would like to start collecting and have a few ideas so far, but of course this game isn't something that started a few days ago so I still got a bunch of sets to look through still.

So far from what I've looked through these are the sets that have the things that caught my eye were VG-EB08 Champions of the Cosmos for the Blau cards, VG-EB11 Requiem at Dusk for witches, though this set seems kinda hard to find and is a bit expensive compared to the rest. But these two are the 100% like what I saw batch.

Other than that I've kinda liked most of the other clans or w/e they were called here and there as well, especially Megacolony but that one seems to be fairly spread out throughout the various booster sets.

Anyway before I get too far ahead of myself anyone have a good place online to buy boxes or single boosters for USA? Current plan if I start to collect would be to try and get as much from one source as possible as a starting line up. If not though guess I'd have to use the amazon sources.

Unfortunately, both of those sets are no longer in print. It's possible to still find boxes of them, but you'll likely have an easier time purchasing the cards from those sets as singles. This also helps if you're only after specific cards in each set. While the Shadow Paladin witches make up the majority of Requiem at Dusk, not all of the cards in Champions of the Cosmos are related to the Blau series.

If anything, it would be worth investigating the prices of the individual cards (consider getting 4 copies for cards you would use in a deck) and compare that to the cost of purchasing a box. The only problem comes with purchasing the money cards of the sets, and Extra Boosters can be notorious for having more expensive RRR and RR cards due to their pull rates. In the case of Blaus, Galaxy Blaukluger and Mond are going to be expensive.

Other than that I've kinda liked most of the other clans or w/e they were called here and there as well, especially Megacolony but that one seems to be fairly spread out throughout the various booster sets.

That'll be the case for most of the clans, since the support is usually spread out through the "seasons" of the Vanguard anime. For instance, BT01-BT05 were based on Season 1, BT06-BT09 were based on Season 2, etc. This also applies to the Trial Decks and Extra Boosters, which will also fall into those seasonal categories. Certain "main character" clans (i.e. the Paladin clans and Kagero) will have more consistent support throughout the sets, meaning they'll show up repeatedly in assorted sets.

Anyway before I get too far ahead of myself anyone have a good place online to buy boxes or single boosters for USA? Current plan if I start to collect would be to try and get as much from one source as possible as a starting line up. If not though guess I'd have to use the amazon sources.

For purchasing booster boxes and packs, I would recommend places such as Ideal808 and BC Universe.

It might also be beneficial to purchase singles for cards, especially if it is impossible to purchase the original booster set (plus, it can be cheaper in most instances). I've used TCGPlayer and had a good experience doing so, so I'd recommend it.

Thanks for the info, seems like ideal808 is the best bet at the moment. I'm definitely going to focus more on the newer stuff just for convenience/prices sake but if I do get into the hobby hardcore or there is something I really want I will keep in mind the places to buy singles.

Only allocating about $50~75 on starter stuff to get me going. Least that's the plan. A trial deck, booster box of Champion of the Cosmos, and about 10 packs of boosters most of which the newer sets is what I've been looking at.

The G trial decks are much better than the previous ones, they've all got cards that very much do the 'gimmick' of the clan well.

I've almost finished my new Great Nature deck, I just need two more Crayon Tiger. My friend pulled an SP Managarmyr yesterday which I managed to get hold of, so happy about that!

Strangely, my strongest deck right now seems to be Jewel Knight Royal Paladins! With the two awesome JK units in G-BT02, plus Swordmy from G-BT01's box topper packs, Saint Blow Dragon and the new RRR Stride from the latest set I've basically won every game I've played except where I was horribly gradelocked even with G-Assist. The field fills really easily, the crossride Ashlei Reverse makes defence a lot easier (guarding a 13k base makes many attacks 5k cheaper to guard) and the strides give lots of flexibility to play to the current game situation (eg, you can force your opponent to 5 damage before they are ready, or swing for 49,000 Crit 2 damage with Saint Blow for a finishing move).

Welcome to the new players, please check out our youtube channel at www.youtube.com/drawthetrigger :D

Jewel Knights have always been good, but they were largely overshadowed until BT14 which gave them a number of effective tools. Unfortunately the jump to the Legion metagame simply left them behind as Seekers became the face of Royal Paladins. But yeah, Ashlei Reverse is great and early game Salome with the Limit Break enabler is nasty to face down if you are unprepared for it.

Now that Stride meta is in full swing, Jewel Knights are largely the reason that Royal Paladin is still topping on occasion. While it technically is Thing Saver Dragon at the helm (which is a powerful card), it's the support engine provided by Swordmy which allows the deck to rush you in the early game and then finish them off with either Saint Blow or Thing Saver. I mean, there is a reason that people are calling Swordmy, as much as I hate the phrase, "Cancer Cat". It's simply a powerful card that's a bit too flexible (many players agree that it should have had a Jewel Knight Vanguard restriction).

Also, all of the cards in G-BT03 have been revealed.

Made it out the house today and went to 3 different stores, none had Vanguard :( it was all torn up Pokemon sets and very few Magic stuff. Heck not even Yu Gi Oh. I know this town is a wasteland for this kind of thing but still disappointed lol.

Guess I will be making my online purchases tonight then :)

That's been my problem, too. Especially once I moved back home where there are zero hobby shops available. Heck, even my old locals is gone since the owner decided to get out of the hobby business (cards, comics, table-top) in order to go into insurance (and for the purpose of a steady, reliable income).

Same here, the one hobby shop I went to as a kid closed down a few years ago after being there for about 20+ years. There's like two left in this smallish city/town but one is super far away and comics only, the other is mostly models. One might stock cards but does not seem likely at all.

Anywho, sad stories about local stores aside lol.

Bought a box of Champions of the Cosmos for $20 off amazon last night. Going to do G1 and 3 trial decks from ebay as I found it fairly cheap with free shipping. Now to decide where to get some boosters from. Shopping around for the lowest prices keeps coming down to the shipping rates for these card shops.

Also decided to just buy a few singles of the not super expensive cards I like visually. After looking around they are usually less than $1, mostly a few cents as opposed to buying a pack for $3.99 or something.

Yeah, booster packs are only viable if the pack would contain multiple cards you are after or a chance at a really expensive card. As a general rule, I'll consider buying into a booster set if it contains at least 2+ clans I want to play with the exception that the clans are really cheap (post pre-release hype price inflation). But even then, it's only worth buying into a couple of boxes before picking up singles for the rest unless, again, there's a good guarantee of a money card which you either want or can sell to recover some of your investment.

Went a lil nuts and picked out 70 different cards on ideal haha. But great prices, got almost everything I wanted just from liking the artwork, for $16. Oddly enough basically everything for Megacolony was sold out, but managed to get their last Machining Spark Hercules
which is what made me interested in mega in the first place. There is definitely something to the exciting random factor of opening a pack... but $16 compared to the $70+ to get a shot at most of these cards from boosters like I was thinking before is a wayyyy better deal.

And since I decided to go with the Gear Chronicle trial decks I threw in a few of those from the newer sets so I can get a feel for personalizing a playable deck if the game hooks me on that aspect.

Looking like the basics of my collection are starting off on the right foot, thanks for the info so far guys :)

Is hype for Machining Destroyer real? If so, it's a shame that it took people so long to realize the potential the clan has to be amazing (Bushiroad denying them support for so long didn't help, though).

Of course, that is just one source, so there might be more on TCGplayer if you're really looking for something.

I don't know anyone who plays Megacolony outside of an experimental deck now and then when new support arrives - even then it's just a game or two then we never see it again. A shame that Link Joker kind of stole their thunder a bit.

In other news, the fighters counters for our Youtube channel arrived :D

We'll be handing these out to our opponents at the upcoming UK Team League event in Cardiff as a 'business card' of sorts :)

I was expecting crossrides for the main decks from the start, but I should have expected them to be strides, really. Kind of obvious in retrospect.

Glad to see a few of my clans there. Hoping for a new Jewel Knight or two (I don't run Thing Saver Knights, just pure JKs). And I'm hoping we get some nice non-celestial Angel Feather because I really prefer the 'vanilla' deck there.

Yeah, I doubt we'll be seeing crossrides outside of the occasional throwback. I definitely expect Soaring Divine Knight, Altmile, Chrono Dragon Nextage, and Dream-weaving Ranunculus, Ahsha to be G-Units similar to those in Fighter's Collection 2015 which could only Stride on units with specific names (i.e. Maelstrom).

Regarding the other support, I simply hope that a repeat of G-BT03's Murakumo does not happen to another clan. G-BT04 already has a lot working against it in this regard, as it is supporting 7 clans (and Cray Elemental), the most of any G Booster Set, all the while supporting three clans which have yet to get any support this season. So, hopefully Royal Paladin, Gear Chronicle, Neo Nectar, and Shadow Paladin get the bare minimum support so as to not take away from Genesis, Angel Feather, and Megacolony (especially the latter two, who didn't have Season 4 support).

Also, aside from the token 2-4 Celestial cards, a majority of the new Angel Feather support will be generic as is the case with all clans in Vanguard G. I expect the same of Genesis (Regalia) and Megacolony (Machining), too.

It's been a little sparse here, but I figured that, in waiting for the full reveal of G Booster Set 4: Soul Strike Against The Supreme, I would post a link to a blog where I try and make predictions about the content distribution within the set based on known patterns. You can read the blog here.

Meanwhile, July was actually loaded with a lot of news for the game, with announcements of upcoming sets and Trial Decks, the new season of the anime, new characters for said season, and of course, the earlier announcement of Cardfight!! Online.

Personally, I'm just hoping for one more Jewel Knight to be revealed. Jewel Knights will always be my number one.

Guess cardfight vanguard online will be on steam and have a tutorial based on their last posts on the account.

Todays bushinavi and the mermaid love, nine pr cards for that is incredible, bermuda cards are that popular?

Bermuda sets are very popular with players and collectors. Vanguard attracts people with its artwork, and the Bermuda sets are generally outstanding, assuming you're into moe mermaids.

Holy shit Cardfight online...I'm gonna sink some money into that.....

But hey it's not like I didn't just buy 4 Japanese Dragonic Overlord The Ends when they were $35-$40 each, use them in one duel against my bro and afterwards put them into a binder and never used them again....... wonder what they're worth now.... sigh...

Haven't really played since Spike Brothers Dudley Emperor deck was a thing... so the Limit Break era.... probably won't bother looking into any of the new stuff until this Online launches so it's all fresh for me.

Hopefully I can build a decent deck or two in this with a few transactions... heck even if I spend $100 it will still cost me far less than making decks IRL ever did.... and I'll play way more people...

The game will be free-to-play, so hopefully their methods of obtaining new cards will be fair so you won't have to spend much, if any, money to build a competent deck.

However, it's worth noting that the game will only begin with cards from Vanguard G (i.e. G Booster Sets, G Trial Decks, G Extra Boosters, G Clan Boosters, and promos; all of the new cards can be identified by having their Nation Flag in the lower right-hand corner).

No original Яeverse cards?

Nothing that came out before the "G" series of cards. They'll add them later, and they would have to given how often Bushiroad creates support for older units in these new sets, but their focus for the beginning of Cardfight!! Online is the newer cards because 1.) they're new and what's on the market and 2.) a smaller starting card pool is easier to manage and program, especially for when the game is in its infancy and detecting bugs is a major concern.

This sounds awesome. I've kind of fallen out of playing it as much as I want just by virtue of not having anyone to play against.

Jewel Knights are my main deck, so my Strides will probably be 4 Saint Blow and 4 of the new JK stride from the set :) Even though I'll be sad to not use Sammuel.

New trial decks this weekend, looking forward to trying those out in our head to head videos.

Cardfight Online seems to be a little way off yet, I'm really hoping we get Pokemon TCG style code cards in booster packs. Would make sense since we already get those little advert slips wasting paper anyway.

From one of their Twitter Q&A:

Q: Will physical booster packs come with codes for Cardfight!! Online?

A: We are planning for campaigns in the future to include CFO codes in physical products. In fact, we will include a serial code for CFO in the soon-to-be released Cardfight!! Vanguard fanbook. More details can be found here-> http://cf-vanguard.com/en/column/2015_11_20/

You can read the rest of the Q&A here and here.

I would try atleast 2 stride Atimile as you can stride> Swordmy and then call one all for CB1.

Really not liking the new Gear Chronicle trial deck support, Time leap feels strange and i am not a fan

REPRESENTING KAGERO here!!!

Paladin and Gold Paladin are overrated, I hope they wont go with that.

ALso why no Oracle Think Tank?

To be fair, if you're avoiding overrated, you'd also avoid Kagero and Aqua Force. :P
Tachikaze/Granblue represent!

As for the reason for the other clans not being shown, it's likely tying into what clans were shown when in the Vanguard G anime from the early onset to the later. I think most, if not all, of the clans on this first poll (they promise others are coming) were shown in the early episodes of the first season of Vanguard G.

I would try atleast 2 stride Atimile as you can stride> Swordmy and then call one all for CB1.

Really not liking the new Gear Chronicle trial deck support, Time leap feels strange and i am not a fan

I tried this, and it worked, but I didn't like it. It feels wrong to run non-JK cards to me. I built the Jewel Knights because I loved the characters and artwork, and ended up switching it back to 4/4 Ashlei/Reverse.

Really not liking the new Gear Chronicle trial deck support, Time leap feels strange and i am not a fan

Is it just because you're not used to it, or because it (Time Leap) feels incomplete? If it's the latter, I would imagine that will be rectified once G-BT05 is released, since that will fill in the blanks for the Time Leap support.
