Taking my 4 year old day one to see it. I actually enjoy Cars, it's one of the few kids movies I never minded when it would just be on loop for my kids.

Oh yeah, the Cars Toons shorts are pure gold. Especially the one for the bull fight.

Tokyo Mater is awesome.

The cameo of Mike and Sully cars in the Japanese restaurant makes me smile every time.

Indeed, I think its quite a good movie, while some might not agree with the "talking cars" thingy. Watched the trailer, and I think I am quite hyped for it.

I had not seen the newest trailer and after watching it this looks like a really fun movie.

Cars was meh (though to be fair I watched it whilst ill, so that may have had some input), but...Bruce Campbell.

...I love Bruce Campbell too much.

EDIT: And Eddie Izzard. Godamnit.

"It's the popemobile catholic?"

I know he's going to be a one scene wonder but i want to see Sig hansen as a boat

People saw the first movie and wrote off the next because it was boring.
First movie was the worst pixar film, but still decent.
All of the trailers and plot details for this movie point to shrek 3 levels of bad and its annoying that this got a tacked on sequel when theres more deserving films that should get one (Incredibles for instance)

I'll give it a shot because I give everything a shot (Alpha and Omega is torture by the way), but nothing about this outside of those promo posters looks good. It all just looks like a cheap cashin to have a plot where they can cram as many cars as possible to make more toys. Just look at that fucking OP. Shameless.

I'll see anything Pixar puts out, but my expectations will be super low for this one. I didn't care for Cars, and nothing I've seen of Cars 2 indicates that it's going to be any better. Cool posters, though.

The reason there isn't an Incredibles 2 yet is because there is no story for one. They aren't going to do it until Brad either gets a story together or gives the OK for someone else to do it. The reason they're making Cars 2 is because they have a story they want to tell. They have LOTS of stories to tell with the Cars, and in this world they've created, the Cars can be or do ANYTHING.

I love how everyone goes "Cars sold the most merchandise, obviously the sequel is a cash grab!" Do you know anything about it at all? In Cars, there was going to be a scene where Lightning and Sally go on a date to a drive-in. There had to be a movie playing on the screen in the background, so they had a team make a fake movie for that scene. The fake movie they made was a spy thriller. The whole scene got axed, but they all really liked the idea of a spy thriller set in the Cars world. So they made Cars 2 to tell that story. It's the exact reason that the BURN-E short got made - they had a story to tell. Jesus Christ, Pixar says that enough you'd think people would start to get it.

The fact that Cars 2 looks like a feature-length Cars Toon indicates it will be better than the first one.

Watch the shorts, people.

Edit: Also, the people who work at Pixar are car fanatics which conspiracy-theory "there's more cars to sell more toys" talk aside, is why they have so many characters. They make sure each and every one makes the engine sound it's supposed in the movies to because they're all huge gear heads. You guys do know Pixar has their own annual car show, right?

I just saw the original Cars in preparation for them. Yeah, it may not be their absolute best film, but even Pixar's worst is still better than any other animated CGI movie that I have seen.

I actually really enjoyed Cars. It was a fun movie that I believe told its story well. I say, bring on Cars 2!

The main reason they are making this is to cash in several billion dollars in merchandise... which is quite sad.

Email I got from Itunes.

Now through July 11, purchase a Cars 2 ticket from Fandango or MovieTickets.com, and you'll receive a free iTunes download code* for the Pixar Cars Toon digital short "Tokyo Mater."

Im really excited for this film. Big fan of the first.

If I was a young kid again I'd fucking LOVE this. God I'd be excited.

But I'm 22 so it doesn't really interest me at all.

I'm pretty excited. I don't hate the first Cars as much as everyone here, and the last trailer they put out looked kind of awesome. Some of the dialog seems kind of kiddy, but the action stuff looks great.

Also it's Pixar. They have never put out a bad film, and the last film they put of that wasn't "great" was over 5 years ago. I don't understand why people think because the first one was mediocre, the second one has to be.

Is that Lewis Hamilton right next to him?

Not too much of a fan of the first movie, but my little nephew is going to freaking implode when he sees the first trailer of this. Gotta take him to watch this film :3

Yeah, nothing I've seen in the trailers implies that this story will have any "Pixar heart", it mostly just looks like an action-comedy. Could still be good though.

Like all Pixar 3D truthfully.

The 3D in Toy Story 3 was pretty good and it wasn't bad in Up. There was actually one moment in Up that I thought worked much better in 3D than in 2D (Young Carl looking out across the plank he'd have to walk to get his balloon).

heard all of these were attached to Cars 2:

- Toy Story short
- La Luna short
- Brave teaser
- first five minutes of Lion King 3D

And this is why I'm excited for Cars 2.

We apologise that we clearly lack an extensive background knowledge of Pixar, such as you so evidently display.

We apologise for basing our thoughts on an upcoming movie on an earlier version and the most widely marketed material (trailers).

We do not apologise for your prick-ish attitude, as it's to be expected from an individual so clearly inclined to deny others their views.

Really the mint computer graphics and animation that Pixar is able to produce consistently is a good enough reason alone to go see this movie. lol at least for me, if the movie has Pixar's name attached to it, I'm going to go see it. They're the ultimate brand in 3D animation flicks.

The movie will most probably be entertaining and well-made but what strikes me odd is that it seems to be the total opposite of what people expect from a Pixar movie.

Every Pixar movie has had a pretty well thought out message working as the core of the movie, even the original Cars had that with the whole Route 66 thing. But as some of the early reviews have pointed out, it seems like they've totally changed the main focus to flashy action, explosions and gunplay. There's nothing wrong with lots of cool action in a Pixar film, like The Incredibles and co. have shown, but it needs something more to resonate with the audience.

I don't know, maybe the movie will surprise me. It's Pixar so I'll see it.

Excatly. It's seems so plain dull, generic and predictible. Though, it's a Pixar, it wouldn't be the first time that it would be way better than expected.

He's right though. The whole "Cars 2 is a cash grab" crap is not true and kind of offensive. It's annoying seeing people bring up the same old whining and crying over this franchise or that franchise.

During one of the trailers Caine's character says something like "You do pretend to act stupid, don't you?" (when, of course, Mater is just being himself), so I imagine that if there's an emotional element to the film that will be where it comes from.

I also still like the Carry On reference from one of the trailers.

How about apologize for being willfully ignorant? I like other people having their own opinions. It's a wonderful thing. What I don't like is people basing their opinions off of nothing, not facts, not what they've read, just their own bias. I openly agree with EVERYONE that says the first Cars was boring. It was a nice movie, it wasn't BAD by any means, but it was BORING. There was no villain, no drive, it meanders along the whole time. Why make a sequel to that? To do it RIGHT.
Basing your thoughts on the trailers shown and saying it will be more of the same is covering your ears and closing your eyes and screaming "I'm not listening" again and again. This movie has a villain. This movie has peril and action and drive. THAT is clearly shown in each and every trailer released, and THAT alone shows it will be different than the first.
You could also base your thoughts about the franchise on the OTHER readily available material Pixar has done with the Cars world: The short films. They are each and every one more entertaining and amusing than the first movie, but people ignore them, and just point to the boring first chapter and claim Cars 2 is just a cash in with no heart in the story, which it's NOT.

So I'm NOT sorry you lack "extensive background knowledge" on the subject because you clearly don't read interviews or previews or reviews that are readily available on the internet.

I'm NOT sorry you chose to ignore the best parts of a franchise so you can hate on its lack-luster first act.

I'm NOT sorry for coming across as a prick, because people who repeat the same stupid bullshit again and again ad nauseum without actually looking into what they're complaining about are annoying fools.

BY THE WAY, the premiere was last night and the Hollywood Reporter and Variety both gave Cars 2 glowing reviews stating that it's much better than the first, and in some cases even justifies the first movie existing. So haters can eat a dick.

Brilliant! But you're still attempting to jump on people's opinions from a very common (and acceptable) source of information (that being trailers and the previous movie). I'm glad you enjoyed the trailers - various other people didn't. It's entirely valid.

It's wonderful that it has received two positive reviews, I will view it as I was a fan of the first. I'm merely pointing out your prick-ish qualities, as I said.

thought cars was dull and overlong as a kids movie, but I kind of understand what they were trying to do.

This is either insane, or genius - possibly a bit of both. Its about as far from the original as its possible to be.

I think his 'prick-ish attitude' was perhaps a reaction to the incredibly negative comments here. We watch pixar movies, we generally love pixar movies, we've all heard how pixar movies are story driven - right?

so what makes all that collapse purely because they sold a few toys from the last one? What makes that collapse because you didn't like the first one?

I find the premise a little odd, coming from the style and americana of the first movie, to a *spy movie*, but if you've seen the toons it kind of fits in that world.

I'll go in with expectations low, because I didn't particularly like the first Cars movie. But any pixar movie is still a day one cinema event

Of course there will be some kind of emotional hook and message like in every movie ever released. The difference compared to previous Pixar movies is just that this time it feels like an afterthought whereas every other Pixar film completely revolves around it.

You can instantly see the emotional hook in premises like "what happens to toys when kids grow up?", "a middle-aged man wants to get back being a supehero" or "a rat has a dream of becoming a chef in Paris" but it's much harder to see it in "Lightning McQeen and friends race around the world".

You once again are citing only the first movie and the trailers for Cars 2. Are you not aware of what a short film is? I'm not being a prick right now, this is really asking. I'm talking about Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales. There are 9 of them, they were released on DVD and Blu-Ray last year. They are not trailers, but they are part of the Cars franchise, and I am basing my enthusiasm from Cars 2 in part of the fact that it looks like a feature-length Cars Toon. Maybe you should watch them, because they are wonderful.

Now. I love being a prick, it's honestly one of my favorite things. I know that makes me a bully, and I hated bullies growing up, but I can't help myself.

But I only do it to people who deserve it. And ignorant, loud-mouthed idiots, coming into a thread about a movie they have no intention of seeing, and saying, "UGH Cars 2? Nice cash-grab sequel Pixar the first one SUCKED this franchise SUCKS make Incredibles 2 instead FUCKKK!" deserve to be treated like the idiots they are.
1) Pixar is not hurting for money. They are 11 for 11, the most successful movie studio in history in that every movie they've made has been a commercial and critical success. Toy Story 3 is the highest-grossing animated film of all time. Therefore they don't need to make a cash-grab sequel to anything.
2) For the last 16 years, Pixar has been stressing the importance of story. It is what is most important to them, it is why they are 11 for 11 right now, it is the reason they have had TWO movies nominated for BEST PICTURE, something only THREE animated films have had the honor of in the 83-year history of the Academy Awards. They have ALSO said, again and again, that they will not make a sequel unless there is a solid story to tell. This is why there is not an Incredibles 2 yet, because while Brad Bird has some ideas, he does not yet have one good enough to warrant a sequel. They have a LOT of good stories, however, to tell in the Cars universe. Which brings me to point 3.
3) When people shit on Cars they say it is a franchise, and they point to the first movie, and they point to the toys. However that franchise that they loathe also contains the Cars Toons, and they are NOT shit. They are incredibly fun, humorous, entertaining short films that out-charm the first movie in every way. I am going to be a prick to someone who says the Cars franchise is shitty, but has not seen the shorts, because they are remaining willfully ignorant to a major chunk of the franchise they are shitting on. I'm also going to be a prick when someone says Cars was boring, and Cars 2 looks just as stupid, because it is painfully obvious from every trailer Pixar has released that Cars 2 is different from Cars in every way imaginable.

If someone watched Cars, or the shorts, and simply thinks "you know, it's not for me" then fine. If they don't like it, that's their opinion and they're entitled to it. I've also seen, "The first one wasn't very good, hopefully this one is better/more like the shorts" and that is great too, it's constructive. But when someone watches it, and doesn't like it, and then comes and shits all over the people who DO like it, that makes THEM the prick.

GCX: I think that has to do with the way the film has been marketed. I honestly thought this would be the first Pixar movie in a while without some kind of "pull-at-your-heart" moment, but then they released that final trailer and I went, "Oh, well, guess I was wrong about that."

Can't wait to see this.

Seems like they wanted to make their own version of a James Bond movie, and they just later decided to make the characters be cars.
