"youuuuuuu MUDDAFUKKA"

I could listen to Joe Pesci say that line in Casino all day long. Seriously. His delivery is fucking brilliant, and I could almost give it to Casino over Goodfellas just for that. Unless he says it in Goodfellas too (haven't seen it in a while), in which case it's a draw.

Two best lines:

Nicky Santoro: [Nicky has Dogs head in a vise]

Nicky Santoro: Hey, Dogs, can you hear me?

Tony Dogs: [looks over]

Nicky Santoro: Listen, Dogs. I've got your head in a vise. I'll squash your fucking head like a grapefruit, if you don't give me a name.

[now in reasonable voice]

Nicky Santoro: Come on, Anthony. We go way back. Don't make me do this, please. Don't make me have to be the bad guy here.

Tony Dogs: [weakly] Fuck you.

Nicky Santoro: [miffed] Fuck me?

[to cohorts]

Nicky Santoro: Do you believe this? Two whole days and nights now.

[turns to vise and starts twisting it almost spinning it like a sailor's wheel]

Nicky Santoro: Fuck me? Huh? Fuck me, motherfucker? Fuck my mother? Is that what you're telling me?

Tony Dogs: [gasps painfully as one of his eyes literally sprouts out of its socket!]

Nicky Santoro: [upon seeing this] Oh God, please give me a name.

Tony Dogs: [gasping] Charlie, Charlie M.

Nicky Santoro: Charlie M? YOU MAKE ME POP YOU'RE FUCKING EYE OUT TO PROTECT THAT PIECE OF SHIT? YOU DUMB MOTHERFUCKER!

Nicky Santoro: You call yourself a man? You know you're a lying, lowlife motherfucking gambling degenerate prick. You know that's what you are? Two small kids at home? I gave you money to pay the fucking rent, buy groceries, put the heat on? You know your wife called Frankie and told him the fucking heat's off? Huh? And you sitting here telling me you didn't gamble that fucking money? No? No? You didn't? Don't fuck with me Al! Don't make a fuck out of me! You wanna embarrass me, make a fool out of me, you didn't gamble? Tell me you gambled the fucking money and I'll give you the fucking money to put the fucking heat on! Did you gamble? Huh?

Al: [the gambler nods and Nicky hands him the money]

Nicky Santoro: Fucking degenerate ya! Fucking kids at home! Here! Get the fuck out of here!

Al: Thanks Nick.

Nicky Santoro: Yeah, thanks. Let me find out you fucked up, I'll leave you wherever I'll find ya!

No one cares what I think, but I put them on the same level.
I do not hold one above the other. I thought both showed the pinnacle of Robert Deniro as an actor.

Yeah, I'm going with Casino as well. De Niro is a much better character in Casino than Goodfellas, and Pesci is slightly better in Casino.

Also, Don Rickles.

The lighting in Casino is heavenly. I'm down to watch it over and over, it's like a visual treat and plays perfectly off the entire atmosphere of Vegas. It's almost fun in a way despite all of the terrible things that are happening. There is nothing fun about Goodfellas. It is probably the better movie, but I don't really want to escape in that world over and over again so it isn't as rewatchable. So I'd have to acknowledge that Casino is my favorite of the two, but Goodfellas is probably a better movie. But not by much.

Both are great, but I definitely prefer Goodfellas. If they ever make a movie about my life, I want Ray Liotta to narrate it.

I watched Goodfellas a few months ago, and this thread makes me want to watch Casino again.

They're both fantastic, but Goodfellas wins every time for me. Once I hear that opening line "As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster", I'm watching the whole damn thing. Simple as all hell, but probably my favorite opening to a movie ever.

Casino definitely has the better Pesci death.

It could be better than the Goodfellas in every way imaginable (it's not) but Sharon Stone's face and awful performance would render it unwatchable.

I agree. I simply care more for the characters, found the story more engrossing and entertaining and also loved the music in it.

I love both movies but Casino just felt too 'heavy' at times, some long drawn out scenes and some annoying characters. Goodfellas on the other hand just has the perfect pacing and it just never lets you go.

Whaaaaat

I love both films, but I'd say Goodfellas is the movie that will resonate with people into the future.

Casino has a tremendous opening hour -- probably one of the best ever -- with the documentary-esque breakdown of the casino, etc. The ending sequence is also sublime, and the acting and casting, particularly Pesci's work, is awesome.

I'd say Casino tries a little too hard with the Sharon Stone beats, though. You could tell Scorcese was basically trying to win her an oscar, and after yet another scene of her crawling back, it really bloated the movie in a few ways. Her performance was good; maybe just a bit too much of it, though.

They're both 5/5 for me, to be sure.

Disagree. Goodfellas just feels slick and whole. It's a movie I can't really find anything wrong with, and there aren't many movies out there like that.

Definitely agree, as I found the scenario much more intriguing. And the performances were fantastic. All-around, I was more entertained by Casino and felt it told a compelling story. Fuck, I love it!

I have to agree. The first time I saw Casino was a few years back on a VHS tape, I haven't been immersed in a movie in a long time before that.

I do love both but I think Casino is paced perfectly aside from Stone's meh scenes.

Nicky's death scene > Tommy's death scene

Sharon Stone > Lorraine Bracco

James Woods.

Casino wins.

I actually pretty much love them equally

Late to this thread but...

To me, Goodfellas is the better movie yet I prefer Casino due to whole "fall of the mobster owned-Las Vegas" subject matter being more interesting.
