You said it, not me.

Newsflash:

Many western game devlopers are obnoxious racist assholes.

Ban me, I don't care, but it needs to be said. The guy is a scumbag. But I'm sure many of you knew that already. With great talent comes even greater egos.

WTF is with black people playing the race card everytime a character is black? I'm black and I don't give a ****.

Doesn't happen everytime.. I just don't like big lipped characters doing a jig and shouting out "It's showtime!"... but hey that's just me...

didn't see many blacks complaining about GTA:SA....

Before you do get banned (if you do), how is Cliffy racist?

Can you back this up at all?

Ever wonder why most Japanese games feature blonde heros? Many MANY Japanese games with storylines mirror many of the ideals and results of WW2.

If you look at Japanese games (along with anime and manga) on the whole, I think you'll find that most of the heroes and heroines have black or brown hair, not blonde. WWII didn't turn the Japanese into self-loathing Aryan supremacists. Might want to stick with sleuthing out anti-Xbox conspiracies and ****ing with the Ghostbusters, bro. :)

The brown people in those hoodies arent the problem...They're covered up it seems. The thing that strikes me is the pitch black, nappy headed characters at the end. To say they werent going for anything racially charged is wrong because we dont know their intentions.

Point. Even if the developers didn't intend them as racial caricatures, there's just too much room for misinterpretation there. (I thought they were some kind of shadow creatures when I first saw them, but I can understand how other people could get a different impression.) They really ought to ditch the designs.

One thing I thought was funny, though - why did that woman automatically assume the characters you're playing as are white? They're wearing full helms - I've got no clue what color they're supposed to be.

Funny thing is these books are/were popular in Europe, the characters have crusader masks and the crusades happened in....oh nevermind, there's no history to this...right!?

One idea that had been rooted in Japan from WWII is that white is better than black (war time shintoism taught that as well) and America treating their black soliders like sh!t didn't help any... but on the good side is the younger kids are starting to look up to blacks more and the stigma isn't as heavy as it is in the states...

Yup. From the intro at Wiki:

Wiki said:
The Golliwogg (later golliwog) is a rag doll-like, children's literary character created by Florence Kate Upton in the late 19th century. The Golliwogg was inspired by a blackface minstrel doll Upton had as a child in America. Historically very popular in Europe, the doll has become the subject of a great deal of controversy — particularly with ever-increasing ethnic diversity of the resident European population — over whether it should be preserved and passed on as a cherished cultural artifact and childhood tradition, or retired as a relic of an earlier time when anti-black racism was as casual as it was blatant.

i always thought they looked like little skeleton dudes.

OMG SKELETONS ARE WHITE THAT'S RACIST.

seriously though, aren't the guys in white just wearing white things over their armour? dont they have grey arms and OMG BLACK HANDS.

seriously.

anyway. i hope they save the powerpuff girls and defeat ignorance.

Cliffy B approves of curb stomping, hence he's racist? I think that's what the chap above was getting at. Which is just as ridiculous as identifying the characters in Castle Crashers as black and white.

Sensitive Susies FTL.

Enid Blytons stuff was and is still popular but nowadays you wont find the Golliwogs in their own or any other of her books. There was some rumours that she might have been racist but its unsubstantiated.

Now, all we need is CliffyB himself to come in here and SMACK YOUR ASS DOWN.

Ahem.

Anyway, I do believe that those characters were put in there just to add to enemy variety, but I can see how, to the right person, they would look racist. Hell, when I end up getting Castle Crashers, I won't be able to play that part without thinking of this phone call. Right or wrong, thanks, lady.

I would love Cliffy to come in here and tell us what his inspiration was for the Locust Horde. :)

White people. Fat, lazy white people. Racist that.

EDIT: Or worse: Actual Locusts.

it could be argued that wearing that suit is a breach of human decency tantamount to racism. i'm not arguing it -- i'm just saying it could be argued

i'm going to end all my voice messages with "because they're black, bye" from now on.

still waiting for something that is showing us the racist in CliffyB...

Me: Hey Drohne let's hang out tonight!

Drohne: sure where at?

Me: we can go to the new pizza place!

Drohne: Ok see you there! Because they're black BYE! *click*

Hawt!

The crusades were just a different brand of racism, I guess.

Yes..the Crusaders were definitely some racist bastards. But this game isn't racist, just like the "White is Coming" PSP ads arn't (or rather weren't) racist.

Some people need to think objectively here..now if she is say around 50yrs old+ I can understand..but if she is much younger she is the same kind of person who has got white guys everywhere racist or not afraid of being called racist for perceived slights against "minorities".

The term white is coming in itself isn't racist... but add a white gal choking a black gal and you leave a whole lot of room for interpretation

They are jungle tribes men .. how many scotish jungle tribesmen have there been? Its not racist is just historically correct! lol . :lol

I'm with you. If you follow the trail of fried chicken, you'd find some white guy at the end telling everyone what should offend them.

I'm black, just in case some wiseguy wants to call me a racist for the "fried chicken" statement.

Yeah, the impression I've had since at least the mid-80's was that all foreigners are more or less equally strange to the Japanese. :) The thing about wartime Shintoism teaching that white's better than black sounds seriously screwed up, though - that's my first time hearing about it. Meh. :/

If anything, you ought to be accusing Cliff of reverse racism. After all, Gears is the game where you play as a badass black man, and gun down hordes of dead-white-skinned monstrosities. It's obvious he's portraying white folk as monsters and encouraging the black man to grab a chainsaw and cut them down for the good of humanity. :p

Seriously, that's about as ridiculous as the thought of CliffyB being some kind of closet racist.

Also, I believe that anyone who buys a Wii or a 360 and not a PS3 is a racist.

Obviously. Ask J Allard what his inspiration was for the smooth, sexy, white 360.

I know- a horde of locusts was one of the plagues brought down by Moses onto Egypt. So, you're saying that in the game we'll be attacking a creation of Judaism?

O_o

I think you just nailed the most important thing in all this right there.
People need to understand that "people see what they want to see". Many problems would disappear in this world when people would then stop playing the "let's look if i ever could be discriminated somehow somewhere" game.

I guess she could also associate the look of the helms with the KKK...

Look 2 posts up.

Yeah, I didn't see anything bad there, either.

l their ranks swelled so that the number of men and women, and children exceeded a locust horde

It's comparing their ranks to the size of a locust horde, which is what we call a metaphor. Also note that the wording implies that locust horde is a concept that was understood previously to the writing, it's not introducing the concept.

I know some Koreans who would disagree with you.

To avoid Libel, yeah, you pretty much do.

Go ahead and google "Locust Horde" and "bible" or "Locust horde" and "nazi".

So not only does he work in some racist reference that's so obscure, nobody (except you, apparently) recognizes it, then makes the hero of the game a black man and all the enemy monsters white? If you are right, then CliffyB fails at racism. :p
