Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2 stuff

Yeah this is a retarded argument. IMO it makes since to me it's how people of legend have names in the first place ie Vlad the Impailer. You think he came up with that? Nope. So Gabriel calling himself Dracul and the people starting to calling him Dracula for whatever reason is not far fetched.

My point is this, and it's pretty simple:

Yes, these people are creating their own story/mythology/lore/whatever, and that is fine. Good for them. HOWEVER, because they want their story to be recognizable, understandable, and popular it references other fictional works, as well as real life history. Obviously, this is common, and was the basis of all previous Castlevania games.

I just think that they are doing a sloppy, amateurish job by mistaking (or deliberately obfuscating) something so fundamental. I think it's silly at best, lazy and/or incompetent at worst. That's all!

Isn't dracul the romanian word for devil? Not a big stretch then.

Dragon, actually :P

Bit off topic, but I liked this Mirror of Fate Boxart.

MercurySteam has some of the best artist, no doubt about that.

and to be honest, Alucard's face seems more, ehm, "Effeminate" than Trevor's.

Yeah, in this picture they don't seem to be the same person at all. How old is it? It might have changed in the mean-time. The official site makes no mention of Alucard at all.

Cute.

I'm sorry I expect these guys to do some research on the shit they're aping so they don't look stupid. It's nice that you don't mind being treated like an idiot, though! Carry on calling him Dracula or whatever.

The point is, if you follow the lore of any story or piece of history that a videogame is based on, it's a butching, so your point makes no sense.

Hell some of some this gens best known action games are really crappy adaptions of historical figures and stories

like Inferno Or Greek Mythology

And you should know by now that this is effectively a reboot of the Castlevania universe, so there is no point of even bringing that up.

Loving the art direction. I was interested in LoS but something just felt off about the game, if they can fully realise the idea here then I'm definitely on board.

Ok! If you're ok with crappy adaptations, then more power to you. I expect slightly more work out of these guys.

And as for not bringing up old games, guess what? Reboots exist to exploit the audience's connection to old material and therefore invite comparison. If they didn't want to be compared to the old games, they shouldn't put the Castlevania name on it.

5 minutes old.

I guess that is (almost) a confirmation that Trevor isn't Alucard. Previous artwork had them rocking similar clothes and armour but the facial features are quite different. Alucard has a connection to the Belmont/Cronqvist clan from what MS has said, I guess we'll just have to wait for Mirror of Fate to find out :)

but the whole point of a reboot is to change the story.. otherwise it wouldn't be a reboot, it would be a sequel.

and im seriously interested, what videogame is close to its source material. You "expect slightly more work" but I cant think of one game in 20 years gaming that is up to such high standards.

please enlighten me.

Finally saw the trailer. Wow. Screens don't even do it justice, at all. The narration is properly theatric, as is the animation that went with it, imo. There wasn't much gameplay show, though, which is bummer, but I'm hyped off the other stuff, lol.

Well, you mentioned Dante's Inferno...I haven't played it but I can see from the title that they managed to get the main character's name right. So, right there, they're doing better...

Since brandonh83 took the avatar I wanted but couldn't take since I was at uni :( I had to make one with my main man Richter.

If you decide to make Lords of Shadow 3, don't hesitate to make him the protag, MercurySteam.

They confirmed that LoS2 will be the end of "Lords of Shadows" saga. There will be no trilogy.

Maybe the end of Gabriel story but not the end of Castlevania games from them?

I can see another one with Alucard as main., they know is a fan favorite that I don't think they will miss the chance, like tease him in this one, a full on game with him next.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP CALLING HIM DRACULA. HE'S NOT DRACULA.

I'm not saying this to be a dick and try to correct everyone, just trying to point that the writing is really stupid. It either means that:

- The devs didn't do their research
- or there's some plot development coming where we see meet his son, Dracula. But then who the hell is Alucard? And where did he get his name?

He is Dracul.....he said it in the first game, he said it in the trailer....he even called himself the dragon?
What more do you want.

People who arent into the lore calling him Dracula is fine, heck the only reason i care about this universe is because of the first LOS yeah yeah classic CastleVanias were better i get that all the time....but im following the LOS universe, if the writers say his name is Dracul then his name shall be Dracul.

Well, you mentioned Dante's Inferno...I haven't played it but I can see from the title that they managed to get the main character's name right. So, right there, they're doing better...

Hahaha ohh yeah.
Dante isnt even a poet, he fucks death up and steal his scythe....jesus atleast read the Divine Comedy then say Dantes Inferno is doing a better job.
There are few games that take such liberties with source material.....beyond the name and circles of hell a couple random quotes here and there....very little of Dantes Inferno can be called a faithful adaption of the Divine Comedy.

As far as i can tell they keeps calling Gabriel Dracul.....a couple art works from last game said Dracula but with this game i have yet to see him be called anything but Dracul....the dragon.

My dracula lore is pretty weak these days but unless im completely mistaken.

Dracul - Dragon
Dracula - Son of the Dragon

Or something along those lines.....so if they are calling him Dracul and his son will become the Dracula everyone so loves....i see no issues.

The name Dracula means "Son of Dracul"

Whence did you conjure this artwork Sir? I seek a higher rez version for wallpaper use.

This trailer looks fantastic. Sign me up for the 360 and PC Versions DAY ONE. I LOVED LoS 1 despite the technical issues. Mercury Steam is making one hell of an interesting re-imagining of the good ole 'Vania.

Ok! The reading comprehension in this thread is fucking scary. My fault...expecting too much I guess. Good evening all.

Eject!!

My second favorite thing about NeoGAF.
Instead of actually discussing and helping a brother understand his mistake, just leave the thread.

Good riddance.

But that's not what they're doing. They're skipping Dracula and going straight from Dracul to Alucard, which makes no sense because Alucard's name is based on Dracula.

edit: nevermind i don't know what this argument is even about anymore.

Dave Cox ignored my question whether the Mirror of Fate boxart would confirm that Alucard isn't Trevor. I guess that can only mean that he actually is! Call Kotaku!

First game is one of my all time favorite games ever. MercurySteam's take on the Castlevania mythology was the best reboot of a classic franchise I've ever seen, from the mindblowing art design to the godly atmosphere, music and addictive combat. Story was also all out epic, with the biblical elements to the plot only enhancing an already incredible tale. Loved every minute.

I cannot say enough good things about David Cox as a developer, his team, and his personal connection to the CS fanbase. My most anticipated game is LoS2.

People can hate it all they want but I honestly feel the game channeled the NES games into modern form really good.

This game looks amazing, and the first is one of my top games ever. That said though, hopefully this game is out before E3 13, once i get a taste of next gen I wont be able to play anything current. Terrible I know.

Two new things from Dave Cox' twitter:

Could work, I dunno. It makes sense with the modern setting and Araujo is a genius. I've been listening to the LoS soundtrack for the past few days, one of the best this generation. I hope he can sneak in some more stuff from the previous games like he did with Waterfalls of Agartha.

Yup, this basically settles it. Alucard is a Belmont, most likely Trevor post-transformation if they're still doing the Alucard = Dracula's son thing.

Really got to say the Alucard being a Belmont and using a whip kinda kills even more interest I had in Mirrors of Fate, but I will still give it a chance. Hope LoS2 turns out well for those who loved the first though.

Only? The Tweet near the top of the page seemed to say it was both, clearly I was reading it wrong. Thank you for clearing that up.

That tweet was referring to Dracula/Gabriel. He will use a whip, a sword and at least one additional weapon. Although they hinted at it, Alucard hasn't been confirmed as a playable character for Lords of Shadow 2. They show him with a sword in all pieces of concept art. Some Mirror of Fate screens have him using something resembling a whip but the hilt looks like the one on his sword so who knows. I'll tweet Dave Cox about it to see what we can find out.

You posted one thing twice. :P

whoops, multitasking fail. will fix in a second.

I'm probably reading too much into it but the second part makes me think that there are some choices involved?

Disappointing. I wonder why they're distancing themselves from the soundtrack. Maybe they just don't fit in.
