Castlevania Portrait Of Ruin (DS) thread

The CD was supposed to be in the box, right? This is annoying the crap out of me.

Edit: I'll try to contact Konami about it, but in the mean time can anybody send me the files through you send it or whatever?

Yeah...Where in GOD's Name is Eric and Johnny? HELLO? Isnt this the sequal to Bloodlines? OMG NO, whats with the Rondo Love Fest (even though its good). I dont want to play Maria, I want to see Play Eric (unless John's father is fighting in the war, or too old to continue and Eric is just playing spy.)

About John:
JONATHAN'S father John is dead, for reasons explained in the game. Besides, this is 30 years after Bloodlines so he'd be oldish anyway.

About Eric:
Eric is dead, for reasons explained in the game. He's quite important to the story though, moreso than John.

From what I see, its a great game, but it doesnt even really advance the storyline or add anything new to it other than the two new charators, and more topless victorian female monsters that you can shake a stick at.

Many topless female monsters yes (although most are reused from SotN) but it does add a bit to the overall storyline by
explaining exactly why the Belmonts haven't appeared in a 19th or 20th century Castlevania, which also neatly ties the series into Bram Stoker's Dracula which (obviously) didn't have a Belmont in it.

Also, the inclusion of
Richter and Maria
isn't THAT random since one of them is featured in the story and the other, well, the gameplay just needed another pair of characters.

I can't wait for a Castlevania that just throws every playable character into it (even if the Belmonts will play just the same).

Interesting cameo in PoR:
When doing the "greatest five" special attack, Leon, Trevor, Simon, Juste and Richter each whip across the screen. There are plenty of new sprites here, I don't exactly recognize the Simon (not the Chronicles one) and Trevor sprites and Leon is obviously new. Trevor (if it is him and not Christopher) doesn't look like his SotN sprite OR the Curse of Darkness redesign.
 
My local videogame store seems convinced the game comes out the 13th. And I know it's out the fifth.

So...how do videogame stores work? Will they recieve it the 13th because they will order it the 12th since they think that's the release date or will they recieve it the 5th even if they think otherwise?

I'm wondering this too. My Gamestop is saying the 5th, but still. I can't wait for this damn game.

For those of us here with Wi-Fi connections, we should definitely play when the game comes out.

I just got a Wi-Fi connector to use with my Wii and just realized it works for DS too. :lol

By the way I suck at Castlevania even though I've been playing the games for nearly two decades.

Eh? I haven't heard this.

I don't expect it to be for the DS unfortunately since IGA said that the future of portable Castlevania rests on Portrait's sales. :( SotN DS please...

I had two preorders with the bonus with BarnesandNoble.com (one for me and one for a friend), but due to miscalculations of available funds on my parts, there wasn't enough money in my debt card for both when they charged for the orders. They sent me an email saying I have 72 hours to enter a new payment method before my order gets cancelled, BUT they went ahead and cancelled it less than 24 hours afterwards! :(

I put enough money in my debt card account and emailed them hoping they'd reactivate my order, all I got was "Call this number to replace your order", so I wasted more $10 on international phone call but it still didn't work.

So now I only have 1 preorder bonus coming instead of 2, and rightfully it should belong to my friend cause it was mainly my fault... But I'm going to try to persuade him to sell or trade it with me, I'm a bigger fan of the series than he is. I know it's gonna cost me a lot though, this sucks :(

PORTRAITofRUIN is an awesome guy. ;) Really knows his stuff about this CV stuff.
 
Am i the only one that thinks they should switch back to the original artstyle instead of the animestyle?

It just doesn't feel "dark" enough, as with the picture examples that were posted :)
The anime poster is kinda sweet, but the art in the artbook was soo much more fitting.

Ofcourse it's not as noticeable in the game but still :)
Well, that's my thought on the issue.

One thing is clear though, can't wait until the english game is released. Loved the first one to NDS, so I'm hoping this is as good.

Kinda fun how i thought these sort of games would never be good on handheld, they proved me wrong :)

Well, that's my thought on the issue.

No, but it's still alot more close to the original art then the new artstyle.

Just because the penciller changes doesn't mean they revert away from the artstyle.
Sure every artist put their twist on it, but tey can still uphold a similarity.

In what way? Effeminate men who pretty much share the same basic design as Alucard does not at all equate to the he-man style of the 80s/early 90s CV games.

That's what I think we could use some more of in this series. I'm tired of these guys with perfect saloon hair and lean physiques being the supposed norm. Sure, the Belmonts aren't supposed to be normal people, but at least the classic Simon, Christopher and Trevor/Ralph designs gave off the image that they actually had to work hard and be pretty buff in order to be fit enough to take on Drac. Compared to the likes of Alucard (SOTN), Soma, and Juste, they seem more like real men, and not like they need to make sure they don't sweat too much or else their hair will be ruined...

Did you friend give you the money before the charging? If not... well... even if it was your fault, it is your card, you made the orders, you wasted $10 extra for the call, you're a bigger fan... I say you take the bonus...

No he didn't, in fact he has been using my card for a long time now and he owes me more than $100, and technically it was his order that got cancelled...

But here's the kicker, he's not really just "a friend", he's my boyfriend (aka lover), which makes it all the more complicated :lol
 
Got my copy on order from videogameplus, not sure how long it will take to arrive in the UK but I can't wait for it.

The bonus pack is definitely yours... plus, as you boyfriend, I'm sure he will understand if the bonus means more for you than it does for him (and you can always share it).

A 9 isn't always the same thing as another 9, and a 7 can be exactly the same thing as an 8.. that's what i meant about pulling scores out of ones ass.

That is indeed true, as has been found with other reviewers on our site that may have similar views in the text, but are stricter with their final scores. I don't pay much attention to the final number value given, more the content of the main review.

By the way, I don't know whether to be disappointed by the delay of the Euro version to Feb 07 or not, since it could benefit from not being crushed during the Christmas period...
 
The anticipation is so high for me right now I'm about to puke. I so hope this is in store tomorrow but I know it won't be. =\ I have a final exam on Wednesday.

I don't think you should pay attention to what it says on B&N... The game ships from GameStop, and whenever GS starts shipping out its orders, yours will too.
 
I had two preorders at different EBs to make sure I got the bonus. Once I got the bonus, I cancelled the other one because I didn't feel like being a dick and taking another preorder bonus to sell on ebay...but now I see one going for 45 bucks!

I should've been a dick. :lol

OK, BuddyC's thread at the top says ship date is 12/05, which is tomorrow, so in-store should be Wednesday, right?

I haven't gotten the call from GS like I usually do the night before, but I did get a survey call from GS asking me if I would cancel my order if I didn't get the preorder bonus. I told the guy I wouldn't, but I really wanted the bonus, he then assured me I'd get the bonus since I preordered. I guess they were just checking to see if the bonus was influencing my preorder?

I told him in all honesty that I preordered before the bonus was announced, but it definitely didn't hurt anything, and he again assured me I'd get it.

So I guess I should expect another call tomorrow night for the game to be in-store on Wednesday? :lol

Also, I posted this in the Zelda thread, but I got a call tonight reminding me that Zelda would be in on 12/12. I've never gotten a call a week in advance before.

I'd call my manager and confirm, but he doesn't work at night and the other employees never seem to be able to answer my questions.
 
I really hope this game gets released early on Wednesday. I was banking on picking up this game before my plane trip.

The pre-order bonus is pretty nice and it seems to be widely available. I'm seeing about 10+ pre-orders per store, a far higher count than the cool Okami bonus (which I got screwed out of). I like this trend of these high profile DS titles (well among the hardcore) receiving cool bonuses. Hopefully this trend continues.

The Okami bonus was shitty. REALLY shitty. IT may look nice in pics, but when you're holding it in your hand it's literally a computer color printout they glued in there. Did I mention it was really shitty?

Yeah, mine's still processing too :(. I've triplechecked all the payment stuff, it's good to go. IIRC their website often runs behind on telling you when things have actually shipped and whatnot though. Most people on CAG still show as processing too, so we'll see. Technically the game doesn't ship until tommorrow, so I imagine they're all going out first thing tommorrow. I'll be sure to post if my status changes.

I still have to check if they charged me already...

Quick question: How many save files does the game have?

It's usually worth it since I've never NOT gotten the bonus. This time is just a little odd because my order went into "processing" like...4 days early (Friday or Saturday). The game's not scheduled to ship until tommorrow regardless, so it's not a big deal, just odd.

The videostore guy told me it shipped the 12th. And alot of places are starting to spread the horrible news.

I've been waiting since the game was announced. One more week ain't gonna hurt me.
