I don't understand the internet vigilantism for cats. Most of the butthurt guys in this thread ate a chicken/beef/pork sammich for lunch. No doubt those animals had an even worse life than this cat, and yet it remains ok cause they are mighty delicious. I guess if those animals were cuter we'd be eating and farming cats instead.

Cats are considered domestic pets in my part of the world, not food.

There are places in the world where dogs and cats are eaten. Call it a cultural thing, I guess.


We enjoy cats for their behaviour. They're mighty odd creatures that do weird/funny things, and can range from absolutely adorable to downright annoying. I don't think a cow would chase a laser pointer around or try to destroy my printer when it makes noise.

Maybe because what was done to the cat is straight up torture and to find the situation amusing probably means you are just as fucked up as the people who did it to the cat?

Anyway, my sister is in China at the moment, describing how there are cats in cages that are even cuter than cats in pet stores here, except they are in cages to be selected for eating.

Regardless, this isn't about cats as such it is about inhumane cruelty to animals. If it were possible to superglue pigs and cows on the freeway, and it were done, people would be up in arms too.

Obviously the fluffier and cuter an animal gets, there's more sympathy, but that's called being human - which isn't necessarily about being fair. Piglets, chicks, or calves superglued to the freeway would likely garner as much sympathy as well.

And most obviously, there will be more sympathy over cats and dogs, as these are much more common pets than other animals, so more people will be able to relate.

Yeah, we certainly treat our lifestock animals badly. But at least we try to kill them quickly and painlessly, even if it doesn't work out some times. And we kill them because we will eat them.

We don't try to kill them in a way that's incredibly cruel and then just for the fun of watching the animal die, maybe suffer because it's only half squashed though you shouldn't hope for too much entertainment.

Also, educated guess: you are vegetarian.

And I don't want to open a can of worms, but to all the people who always go into these kinds of threads and make a comment in the line of "Having sympathy for a cat is fine, but there are actual humans suffering, think about that!" Two things: 1) because one is worse, it doesn't mean the other bad thing is automatically being neutralized and OK, 2) the frustrating thing is that in threads about human victims there will never be any sane person who thinks or posts "who the fuck cares!" (and if so, ban-galore), while it happens all the time in threads about animal cruelty. So no, people being outraged about stuff like this don't need to get their priorities straight, it's people who don't give a fuck about things like this that need to do some thinking...

Lastly, people who tend to like animal cruelty are also more likely to do similar stuff to humans, and the other way around. So sick fuckers walking around in our world is a lose-lose situation for everyone, no matter how.
