Cataclysm Friends & Family Alpha

Cataclysm Friends & Family Alpha
The Cataclysm Friends & Family Alpha just started. The banner below was taken from the official site where people eligible for the alpha can already copy their character. Let's roll.

Important: The Friends & Family Alpha is restricted to employee's friends and family, the only way to enter this phase of the alpha is to have a Blizzard employee request a key for you personally. Any mail you receive about a potential Cataclysm beta is a scam.

Blizzard on a roll

A thousand people can be heard asking for keys. :P

But I wonder what info may pop out or how long F&F Beta will last.

So is this going to be like the Halo: Reach F&F thing where they release thousands of codes upon the Internet masses?

But yeah, I don't play WoW now, but I would absolutely come back if I could get into this.

Not yet, but the WOTLK beta eventually turned into that.

Blizzard F&F is only to friends of Blizzard Staff, and is generally pretty tight knit on info lockdown until Public Beta rolls out.

I never played in a WoW beta, but I wouldn't mind checking this one out. I'm just waiting on TOR to come out, and cata could be a good filler until then.

All I can say is try to avoid the beta. It really ruins the experience when the full game is released... least for MMOs

I'd do almost anything to get into the beta; need to get everything it has to offer outside of level 85 raiding out of my system in the summer before school starts. :lol

FYI this is nothing new. All WoW expansions have had a friends/family alpha, closed beta, then (usually) open beta.

Even vanilla WoW had a friends & family alpha. I remember wanting DESPERATELY to get in and harassing the one blizz employee I knew (they didn't even work on WoW) to hook me up :lol

I don't like playing in WoW beta's. I did some of BC but it really ruined it for me when the actual game came out. I just don't get the appeal for MMO beta's.

I hope we get to fight Deathwing quickly, and new content introduced afterwards has to deal with other figures.

Didn't Blizzard say they didn't like how they introduced Illidan so early and that's why the Lich King was off limits for a long time? I have a feeling he's going to be one of the last bosses.

I'm personally hoping we can see him flying around the world raining destruction wherever he goes.

Oh I understand :). Like another guy said I could get it out of my system so I wouldn't be tempted when retail comes out :D.

They could have too. I knew a guy at Blizz that didn't directly work on WoW and he got like 5 different people alpha keys to WotLK.

It's going to be between 2-3 months. Perhaps less depending on how they approach this one.

I doubt the Alpha will last that long. Isn't it usually the shorter phase? Beta will probably be 2-3 months.

thats a terrible idea, unless they have you "not kill" him.

It's not that great of an experience. The inevitable deletion of your character hovers over everything you do and makes it difficult to really commit to anything. Unless you just really enjoy sussing out and reporting bugs, you're not missing anything.

I may have been odd, but I really enjoyed Beta Testing Wrath. I actually enjoyed running around looking for glitches/bugs, then filling out the survey on each quest I did. It didn't bother me one bit to be partly spoiled in the least. It was cool as some of my suggestions came into play with them as well.

Wonder what class will be Ret 2.0. A class that just went on to slaughter people throughout an entire beta, then got nerfed within hours of going live considering how the boards lit up. We warned Blizzard of this in the beta forums, but they just turned their head saying "working as intended". Man, I remember the pre-launch patch where the Ret changes went live, it was the one of the few times the official forums went down outside of maint-days.

The phase with the pre-made toons was great though, I must say. Had a blast in PVP trying them all out.

Wish I could get into Friend and Family, but I don't know any Blizzard people. Hoping to get into the beta earlier than last time even though.

This is the main reason why I wouldn't do the beta if i got invited. I know I would play it day in and day out and be sick of everything before the final game is released.

I'm sure it will be F@F for 1-2 months, and then Beta until the end of the summer. This gives them enough time to have it out for retail by Blizzcon at the end of October.

No way! Arthas should've been in Nexus and we could've dealt with his defeat for 2 years!
What if killing him unleashed something far worse? Don't forget that Arthas was apparently keeping the Scourge somewhat pacified, imagine the amazing battles we could have fought against what was unleashed by killing him. The Wrath end game would have been epic if that were how it had gone down.

Considering how they've stated "people complaining about goblin rogues", that would mean the majority of people would have had to hit 80 and get some gear to pvp. It'd take a couple weeks of experience going against those classes to get those feelings, not to mention that people will have to have the time to level a Goblin from 40-85 and get some gear too. Late Sept, at the latest will be my guess on release. F&F was supposed to be handled differently this time as well, I wouldn't expect it to run very long. Perhaps a few weeks, and that's maybe mainly for "stability" testing. Then the media will get in, then opt-ins, and whatever else they plan on doing. 2-3 months of "beta", puts them into July/Aug, time to make it gold, then get out to the stores in Sept.

Yeah. I think there's an NDA in effect. Heh, I got in last time, hoping I can get in this time as well. :D

Lucky you. :P

But yes, all Blizzard F&F unless stated otherwise has an NDA.

Dude, you were in last time also, weren't you? Hell, I think I'm still using the threat meter you made back then.

You were in closed, I was in at the start of Open. :|

Hmmm...I thought you were in the Alpha. Well, it's been 2 years, so I may not be remembering the details that well. Heh, heh.

I don't remember WoW, BC or Wrath having an open beta, but I may be mistaken. I know Wrath didn't -- people were begging to get in right to the very end.
