Catan coming to XBLA in May

- randomly placed land tiles on a map with different numbers placed on them (also randomly if using that rule)
- each type of land produces a different resource (wood, sheep, stone, brick, wheat)
- resource production is determined by die roll, if the number of a given plot of land comes up, players with a settlement/city on that land get the good
- use resources to build up settlements, roads, cities, etc
- trade with opponents for resources
- roads/settlements/cities block off part of the map, so opponents can't build there
- settlements are worth 1 point, cities 2 points.
- first to ten points wins.

CANT WAIT! theres some right wheeling & dealing going on over XBLA :D

Go, Shorty! It's your birthday!

I spoke to somebody at GDC this year who worked on the game, he mentioned that Catan's creator went apeshit working out the AI for the game -- he wanted the computer opponents to be really good, have unique strategies, etc.

The Märklin map doesn't have too much in the way of bottlenecks (and they're all possible to bypass), and the passenger mechanic really adds to the mid-game - good use of your passengers can really improve your score (and can also misdirect your opponents in some cases).

Sounds hot, and after boardgamegeeking it, it has been added to my shopping list for the next internet order.

Any word if we can ever hope to expect a seafarers or cities and knights expansion to the XBLA version?

I'd allow myself to get microrapeactioned for cities and knights. I'd even potentially allow myself to get microrapeactioned for the 5-6 player add on. Haven't played Seafarers yet (recently acquired it though).

I'm sad since I overplayed Catan a few years back.. It's an excellent "beginner game" to introduce people to boardgaming.

Now with that being said....

I want Puerto Rico. That game is the epitome of boardgaming!
