Catherine (Atlus - PS3/360) Trailer

Bizzare and intriguing. Music was good. Murder mystery premise is interesting. Everything else is a big question mark.

It is nice that this is a game by a company that actually does care about its international markets, so... Looking forward to it!

... Or rather seeing more for now, as that was one interesting trailer.

Making about 4-5 games a year? It's not like they've been sitting around doing nothing. Their output has been pretty high every year. :P
Oh, I know. I was just implying that it would be reasonable for them to have someone developing an engine during the development of those games. Perhaps it's unlikely if their studio is too small to juggle such a task.

Anyone notice the watermark in the top left of some of the cutscenes? What's that about?

I can't see this leaving japan... nor should it!
Why?

Well, Atlus was hiring 360 and PS3 programmers years ago, so it's definitely possible.

However, they would still need those programmers if they were using an existing engine, so it's hard to tell.

Well, that wouldn't be up to Atlus USA. We're just confident that Atlus USA will absolutely release it.

They can always be chums and make it a region free game for import-happy people :p

It's nice to want things ..

I just want to point out that that wiki page also has Falcom making a PS3 game.
Just sayin'.

EDIT: Or not anymore. Looks like both Atlus games and Falcom were edited out.

As long as it's coming to the US, it's fine by me, I import all of my games anyway.

The trailer looks awesome! Can't wait to find out more about the game. The official (Japanese) site opens up the 23rd so probably more info soon.

Definitely interested in this. Love the weirdness of the setting (though, maybe I'm just blinded by the sheep which are totally reminding me of Murakami - and I adore his books), the nightmare premise is interesting and, well, the "erotic scenes" seem to be aimed more at a disturbing reaction than at "omg boobs!!1" imo, so I'm fine with them.

It could be a new engine, it could be middleware. Their output has been consistent enough that it doesn't indicate either way. There's nothing we can assume.

It says Golden - Amusement Theatre.

Let me guess, those "sheep" are actually other young "vegetarians" like him who are stuck in the dream world. And if you stay in the dream world too long you actually begin to turn into a sheep which is why the MC has horns and why one sheep still has a tie.

You probably die in reality if you die in this "dream world" which explains why the lonely dead man on the news, and by the same way you died in the dream which explains why he was burned to a crisp.

As a sheep, the person is probably more susceptible to being killed by demons and the like.
I guess there is a time limit during each "trip" where you must reach the top of the stairs before you become a sheep. If you become a sheep you can probably still beat the stage but you'd have to be much more careful.

right ?

RIGHT ?

Maybe Square Enix can bring it to EU since they published Persona 4 in EU.

I would watch an anime like this all my life. And I don't even like anime anymore.. (last one I watched was Death Note, so yeah it's been quite a while).

Can't wait for some actual game play information. I believe i've never played any Atlus game that isn't an RPG of some sort.

You should play Game of the Year 2010 - Trauma Team!

The last time there was a generation switch, Atlus also started off (with almost the same team too!) with a new original title instead of a SMT or Persona game. We got this:

So uh, anyone able to understand what they say in the trailer? Care to shed some light on this awesome clusterfuck of a game?

Great trailer, the character animation looks really smooth and it seems like there won't be a shortage of beautiful FMV sequences. Though I'm not sure if the trailer showed Catherine to be less insane than the screenshots originally made out, or if I'm just getting acclimatised to the premise of it.

They didn't publish Persona PSP or Persona 3 Portable though, so I wouldn't hold out any hope. If Atlus see this as a major release for them it probably will end up getting picked up in Europe, if not then it'll be tossed aside like most of their other small releases.

A lot of the recent Atlus games haven't been getting released in Europe. Think I've posted this a bunch of times now that Devil Summoner 2, Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, and Persona 3 Portable as well as a few others still have no PAL release date. Although Persona PSP did show up on the PS Store last week unexpectedly after not getting a retail release here.

Maybe if no one is going to publish Atlus games in Europe they could still get digital only releases.

Mmm, I don't know. There isn't as much emphasis on erotics as I thought there'd be judging from the trailer. Which is a good thing, but it still looks weird. I want to forgive you Hashino but I'm finding it hard!!

And it's rad.

So do you guys think Atlus will bundle an inflatable bipedal sheep with it for the CE? :lol
That sounds more like something Aksys would do.

It'll obviously be part of a special Amazon-exclusive swag bundle that is overpriced and doesn't come with the game. :lol
