Oh my god Ballmer's backseat keynoting is annoying as hell. When he's off the teleprompter he sounds like a technologically illiterate frumpy gym coach. Like the guy that yells you're not running fast enough from his golf cart.

He also sounds like he might beat the shit out of the other guy... anatomy... fucko?

You mean you can collaborate over the net with documents? Welcome to Google Docs...

Office 2010 Online should be more featured though thank god.

Collaborative PowerPoint editing is making my corporate dick grow.

It's pretty simple. Boxee is a piece of software, it's available on windows, mac and linux right now. If you have a HTPC you install boxee on it and you essentially have a boxee box. All the D-Link Boxee Box is, is a HTPC meant to run the Boxee software for people who don't want to build a HTPC. I suggest you download the software (it's free) and just run it on your computer to see for yourself.

I'm aware of this. Actually, I had the alpha(?) a few months after launch. I'm not sure what that's saying though? Are you implying PopBox came out of nowhere? While certainly the UI is new (as well as some of the ideas like an app platform, ads, etc), Syabas has been doing media decoding, streaming, serving, etc. as longer than Boxee iirc.

A device could support 10 million codecs but if the UI sucks, it makes the device useless. The Boxee UI is brilliant and does the best job of any software I've tried at classifying your media and your online media (think of the way itunes stores your music, but for tv episodes.. and also a lot better heh). The reason I believe in the Boxee Box is because I've already tried the software.

I certainly agree that a UI can make or break a device like this. Admittedly, I haven't tried the new Boxee beta (which I believe is where BoxeeBox derives its UI?), but it's not like PopBox appears to have a poor design. Have you used it to compare? They hired Dewey Reid to design it, so I suspect it at least has a chance to be decent.

As far as classifying your media, again, I would think we'll have to wait to test both to see which is the best. Based on your accolades, I assume the current Boxee offers a great solution. However, PopBox has licensed IMDB, so at least for video, we know it should be good.

I can understand being concerned. You know Boxee has a great interface ... PopBox is a bit of an unknown. However, I simply don't think you should make automatic assumptions until you've compared. Given some of the people/companies involved, I would think PopBox at least has a reasonable chance to be competitive.

Right now price and release date are the only unknowns with the Boxee Box. I would gladly pay $199.99 for it though unless it comes out too late in the game.

I will gladly pay that as well, if it offers something to warrant the price delta over PopBox.

I like the look of Bing Maps. It's one of those modern things that, unfortunately, I'd hardly ever use although it'd make life much easier.

Quadruple tuner peripheral...

Fuck my industry, we're boned!

you can do that in google docs, although the excel program in google docs sucks

Yeah I'm on page. Google docs already does all of this. The only problem with Google Docs is it's EXTREMELY bare bones in all of the programs. I'll be all about Office online if the program is more fully featured like a real box product.

WMC plug-in style is a pretty big add-on to that program.

LOL, I have two of the computers they showed off.

Got the Envy 15 laptop - it's awesome.
Just got the Acer 3610 this past weekend - awesomeness still tbd.

By world's first you mean world's second, right?

There's this neat little device called a Playstation 3 that has had this since 2006.

What's weird about the article (or maybe it was due to the poster not quoting the relevant part), is that the main claim to fame iirc is that it supports HD VUDU.

...so is that the HP slate thing we've heard about?

Edit: Yes...yes it is...
