Chances of XBone games having better effects?

They lower the resolution because they can't achieve the same effects as PS4 at 1080p. If you have the grunt for more effects after that why not raise the resolution?

Well the PS4 is all round more powerful, so I really wouldn't expect so at all.

1080p to 720p though, if mainly the result of early SDK and eSRAM issues, probably leaves quite a bit more headroom on the X1. All else being equal. There's more CPU in that console too.

Yea, but only if a game developer decides they would like to make a silly decision, if they're running more effects on XB1 it would be better to drop PS4 Res and give it the effects as well.

The same chance United has of winning the Premier League with Moyes - none.

:-(

If you want to play games in 720p we have a machine for that. Two, actually. - Don Mattrick talking to a mirror wishing he was still at a relevant company.

The PS4 still has the stronger GPU, so any extra effects the XB1 can do due to 720p res, the PS4 can do as well, and likely at a much high resolution to boot.

I love that people are answering the OP as if he was being serious.

On more serious note. What was the last system that could do a technical effect a rival console couldn't?

1080p has 2.25x as many pixels, and the PS4 is not 2.25 times more powerful. I think the chances are higher than people want to admit

So, aparently several Multiplatform games will run at 720p on the XBone for whatever reason, is it possible that as a result some developers manage to add better effects to said games? What if the PS4 version of BF4 runs at 1080p but the fps go below 60 at times and it is locked on the XBone? What about that polygon dude who said people would be surprised when they so both versions? Maybe the XBone version is blurier but with more bells and whistles? Kinda like when you compare a game locked at 30fps vs one locked at 60fps, and the 30fps game looks better as a result?

Clearly i have no idea if that is possible but that's why i'm asking. If it were the case would you chose the 720p over a 1080p game?
If anything, PS4 games likely have better effects.

There’s virtually no chance of this happening. If I had to bet, I’d say PS4 versions will have more effects in all cases, independent of native resolution.

Huh?
The fact that games are running at a lower resolution is because they can't go higher or the game's performance would suffer. There is no way they could add more effects. It's actually the other way round. The ensure the same amount of effects as the PS4 version the Xbone's version has to run at a lower resolution.

So the question is whether or not it's possible that developers have decided to arbitrarily add effects to the Xbox One versions at the cost of resolution and not the PS4 versions of their games?

That seems unlikely.

GTA IV and other games were at lesser resolution to achieve performance parity, and even then they sometimes didn't succeed.

Nope.

Not sure why everyone is denying the OP. XB1 costs a 100€ more than the PS4, so it has to be better.

Simple math, people.

At this point I'm not entirely convinced that the whole 720p or 1080p native issue isn't more the result of late dev kits and bad software support from Microsoft.

If it is a matter of significantly different hardware power (as in, greater than the practical difference between the Xbox and GCN, or the Xbox 360 and PS3), then no, there is no chance at all.

I think we're going to see 99% of games throughout the generation looking pretty much identical, Xbox One exclusives looking better, and PS4 exclusives looking best.

What nonsense. If devs are having to drop the resolution on Xbox One versions of games, it's because they can't match resolutions with the PS4 at the same levels of effects.

That theory doesn't really work, or at least not that visual metaphor. Anyone who's gone through a traumatic disappointment knows that it's extremely easy to relapse. You can very easily accept it one day and be completely frustrated or depressed the next.

One console has weaker hardware. Games on that console run at lower resolutions. Why are so many people not making the link between those things?

It won't have better effects but that doesn't mean it can't have some amazing looking games. Nintendo are doing some good stuff on that little underpowered box of theirs. The games will look good. You will say wow.

No I think the X1 version being 720p will allow it to be onpar with the PS4's graphical features.I expect the X1+PS4 versions to run at ultra settings at there respected resolutions.
