Chances of XBone games having better effects?

It's not just about hardware or clock speeds etc. Here is some food for thought either way:

  • which platform a developer's talent or experience is greater with. This can change over time too.
  • how much resources a developer or publisher allocate to each platform.
  • software features that are platform specific e.g. direct x or SDK.
  • platform changes or optimisations e.g. launch vs. 6 months vs. developer feedback

There are many nuances to be tried and tested with new consoles, can't wait to see what both can achieve in first, second and third waves of games.

As for picking one over the other I have X1 day one and I'll pickup a PS4 early next year. From there it will be game by game basis for which I play what on.

Developers care about platforms that sell the most. It is a self fulling prophesy. More consoles sold, more games are made for that console, which in-turn sells more console. Then it becomes the de-facto lead platform.

So having a good head start is very important. And if the platform that gets a head start turns out to be more powerful and easy to program, it is a land slide win.

I can agree with ease of programming and early market results.

I'm curious what would you say was the case of xbox OG vs. PS2? Same question of PS3 vs. 360 vs. Wii?

Not likely.
I'd have to think devs would upgrade to something like 900p first.

There are multiple factors... not just which platform has sold the most. As important is the console's attach rate, what costs are involved with developing for the platform, and what challenges are involved.

It's may be possible if the Xbox one is leading platform in development.

Not even then. If they get 100% out of the GPU and 100% out of the ESRAM and 100% out of the DDR3 then they are still behind what the PS4 can do.

On top of that since both consoles are X86-64 + GCN any optimisation done on the X1 (excluding ESRAM optimisation) will also apply to the PS4.

There is pretty much no way that a multiplat game will look better on the X1 than on the PS4. Some X1 exclusives might look better than PS4 multiplats but X1 exclusives that come out in the same wave as PS4 exclusives will look worse. It is also possibe that in 2/3 years time X1 exclusives will look better than the PS4 launch exclusives but of course the PS4 exclusives will be looking even better by then.
