channeling gaf: maf is retarded (nsmb)

NSMB will make me pick up a DSlite next month.

Hopefully Super Paper Mario will be more classic Mario awesomeness and we can have the best Mario year since...Mario 3!

NSMB has 80 levels, how many levels (not exits) did SMW have?

80 Levels, not exits.

If you count ways to exit a level, then I'd say NSMB is up to and/or surpassed SMW.

You shouldn't let expectations get in the way so much and accept that Sonic Rush is not a better game.

But the music man, the music.
It like totally elevates Sonic Rush to a higher level and manages to suspend disbelief and turn a mere game on two tiny screens into a total physical experience.

The music is ass. NSMB music is also not that good.

Who are the fuckin' haters for this game? It's an absolutely stellar Mario title in the classic vein. I borrowed White Man's DS and NSMB, and it's blowing me away: awesome level design, loads of classic references, top-notch controls, and OMG SECRETS. The levels are bigger than those in SMB3, and are full of clever little platforming elements. It's a NEW FUCKING 2D MARIO, and some of you whine? You're probably the sort who write Link fanfics or obsess over crap like the character roster in Smash Brothers: Mascot Clusterfuck Edition.

If you dislike this game: fuck you. I hope you die in a fire. It's the only reason to own a DS, and it's the reason I probably won't be able to troll it as effectively. NSMB fuckin' rules. Fuck off!

It's still ugly. Awesomely fun, but absolutely hideous. DS "3D" for the proverbial lose. :|

Yeah, this is probably my favorite DS game so far. And I've been consistently pimping it since I got it. The only reason the official thread went downhill was because everyone who liked the game, like me, was GLUED TO THE GAME AND TOO BUSY FOR GAF.

That was the first game to do that to me for awhile.

I just checked SMW on the GBA and it had 69 levels (that's including the Star Road, Special levels, and Bowser's Castle) plus the switch palaces.

Sorry, Dragona, not seeing the "hideousness" -- it's by far and away the best-looking and most technically accomplished DS game I've played yet. Then again, as a PSP fag, I'm used to and actually LIKE the "3D characters on 2D backgrounds" thang.

Music *is* kinda weak, but it wouldn't stop me from giving the game a 10/10.

I use my Advent Rising t-shirt to clean up after a rousing round of pantsless Golden Girls watching.

You must be mistaking yourself, there are no Advent Rising t-shirts besides the one I made. You must be using a Psychonauts one.

The way Mario has seams makes me cry. Sprites are superior.

But on a more important note: this is the first game in a very long time my sister has stolen from me and played beginning to end in a marathon that I'd normally do. And now that's she's beaten it, she's still playing it: all over again.

I want it back. >:(

You deserve a medal.

I agree 100% btw

wait wait wait, "mario has visible seams?"

you must be pulling that screen all the way up to your nose to notice that.

Its quite possibly the most generic looking Mario title ever, but it looks like solid fun. I'll be buying a DSLite for it...but the main reason I want it is for YI2.

Seriously, compare NSMB to YI2, on a visual level YI2 has a lot more charm.

Outside of the music, there IS NO VALID COMPLAINT. I find nothing to complain about, and I complain about EVERYTHING. Also I am vastly smarter than most of you and have a massive erection.

i'm glad someone spoke up. I've been playing this like mad and i just don't get the negativity. I'd like to add how much i love the 3 star coin thing. The music could be better... then again, aside from 1 outstanding song, SMB3's songs weren't that memorable to me. SMBW had the best tunes IMO. One after another.

This is the type of Mario game I would play. Unfortunately, it's on a handheld, and I have no use for those. PSP... maybe, but it would be used more often as a MP3 player, and iPod is just better.

Super Paper Mario ftw (maybe)

Please see his elbows and knees. Specially awful when idling or running. Terrible.

Which is kind of true, since it's the most egregious appeal to nostalgia that Nintendo's used in years. Mechanics-wise, it certainly isn't a bad game, but retrograding a series doesn't work in all aspects and I do think that a bit of the magic was lost somewhere along the line.

Even the stage design works against itself to a certain degree. Each level is something different for the most part, but there's never enough stage there to fully explore the potential of these designs. Only a couple pop up repeatedly, but there are some really neat ideas that I just don't think were implemented to their full extent. I think good balance of design is part of the "Nintendo Magic" so to speak and NSMB just missed the mark with that one.

Edit: BTW, I throw my hat in with Super Paper Mario.

unless he's in super giant shitkicking mode, it's inconspicuous at best. of course, i'm too busy playing the game to notice four pixels on-screen.

There's no replay value in the other Marios either... but we still play them anyway because they're fun.

I replay SMB a bunch cause you can't just start and stop where you want unlike in this game and to see if I can top my high scores, another thing NSMB lacks.

Woo! Once again, Drinky proves his immaculate taste in gaming (minus the SSB hate :( ).

And just because I'm morbidly curious, what was your favorite Mario game, Drinky?

I am currently looking for all starcoins and it's a fantastic blast to the past experience with this game. fuck the haters.
