Chaos Rings (iPhone) - S-E x Media Vision RPG

If it ever goes down in price, it'll be a dollar off or two, max. Check the price history of all the S-E stuff, they don't do worthwhile price drops. Either get it now or don't bother expecting to own it in the future.
I am fine with passing on it, no big deal.

Price seems pretty steep for a iphone game. How is the story? Any reviews out there?
It's closer to a PSP game than the typical iphone game. I've been playing for an hour and I've barely started. Story seems pretty good so far, a bit cliche. Great warriors kidnapped for a mysterious tournament, each with their own back story.

It's really good. I like it a lot. If you like PS1 era Final Fantasy games, you'll almost certainly like this.

Ok, I'm done with this game. Got to the third mandatory sokoban puzzle in dungeon 2 and just couldn't pass it. These logic puzzles are the fucking worst.

I'm not here to play Professor Layton. I'm here to play an RPG.

What? :lol

Not being an ass, but I haven't had to retry any of the puzzles more than once and I'm on the fourth dungeon now. They are all pretty simplistic.

If by new one you mean Chaos Rings just read this page for all the glowing comments. I made it to the first arena fight and it was awesome. Much harder than all the previous bosses. The music was great, too.
Good stuff -- I saw some jokes about people reluctantly buying it on twitter and hadn't read allt he impressions here yet. Maybe I'll have to jump in since I also have an iPad and the screencaps look pretty solid.

I cleared the first set of Characters today on this and boy was it easy at the end. I killed the final Boss in 2 hits. It seems that event bosses (Outside of Dungeon bosses) don't scale to your level when they really should so the last boss was Level 25 when I was Level 39.

Still it's a very fun game, working my way through the second set of Characters now. I kinda like that you keep the Genes and OZ from your other characters but this makes the beginning very easy so I would of liked the option to turn that off. I guess I'll just make it harder by selecting the Highest level for Dungeons.

Took me 5hr30mins to clear it the first time and I reckon the other characters will go by quicker so maybe a 20 hour game or so in total. Worth the asking price for sure. I hope SE keep up this quality with their future iPhone games.

I think the puzzles are a neat little break here and there. My only complaint is the lack of a dungeon map. Unless I'm not seeing it.

Otherwise it feels like a high production game that's on the freaking iPhone. You can't beat that.

Yeah I actually liked the Puzzles too. They weren't too frequent and were mostly easy to solve. There is a sorta map for Dungeons but it's more confusing than anything.

It looks like the game is doing pretty well so far in terms of sales. SE says it's currently the top grossing app in the US, Japan, Canada, Thailand, and five other countries. Despite complaints about the price, I'm pleasantly surprised to see that a game with a comparably higher price and much greater production values can do well in the app store.

I just beat the game as well just now and instead of making a new game, I loaded my file to see if I could still level up and such. I checked the door and there's a new area available to you, you get to fight
The Executioner
as soon as you enter the dungeon. Take note that after you beat the boss and go to the pedestal it only tells you if you want to return to the ark, however, if you walk toward the camera you enter a new area and it has these things that explain a ton of shit about the game's characters, it's awesome.

I tried to make my way through the dungeon and ended up dying because I chose to fight mobs 10 levels higher than me(which was fine for other dungeons btw, fast leveling!). I can't wait to go back and beat the dungeon and see what else opens up. And like he said, there's new game+ which is down right amazing. This game is so good.

Ok this is my first ever JRPG and I need some help. The second dungeon boss, the giant elephant, is just kicking my ass.

I've upgraded my armour and weapons and have found all the chests up to this point so I assume I have everything I could need but I just don't know how to approach this battle.

Any tips?

Use Analyse to find it's weakness and attack using the skill it's weak too. That or just level a bit more. What level dungeons are you picking? I always picked the second highest for my first playthrough and had little trouble.

Most bosses boil down to finding it's weakness and using the skill it's weak too in a paired attack. Or just grind a little and destroy them with pure attack.

-edit- If it's not weak to anything you can attach an element to the boss and then attack using the skill it's weak against. For example: use the Attack(Aqua) item and then use the Mowe skill in a paired attack.

DO NOT START A NEW GAME+ AFTER YOU BEAT THE GAME, LOAD YOUR GAME TO ACCESS A NEW DUNGEON.

With that out of the way, I highly, highly recommend doing that dungeon. You learn a ton about the story and fight three new bosses and a special arena battle(this one is super hard, lv90!) that opens up after you beat the dungeon. After defeating the dungeon's boss you open up the other two couples. :D :D :D And I'm pretty sure you need to beat the game with everybody to gain access to the final door so we're looking at a solid 25 hour game. That's just to beat the game and get the real ending, if you want to max out all the genes and finish the last arena battle it's probably going to be a 50 hour+ game.

Man, I can't believe how much of a steal this is for $12 and that there's people complaining about the price. Most PS360 games are way shorter than this and they're $60. :lol :lol

Just grind a level out. That boss was whooping me at level 11 but I destroyed him after grinding my way to 12.

I would also advice to always buy the newest set of jewels(rings) that speed up your characters. Being able to attack first makes a huge difference in this game. Every time a new dungeon opens up you are able to buy new equipment.

Cool, that means the game is doing well if they're doing an iPad version. In other news I just found out there's 9 optional bosses per couple. They range from lv81 to 91.

Finished the non-optional part of the game with Escher and started on the optional dungeon.

Does anything in particular unlock after finishing the game with multiple couples or can I see "all" the game has to offer with just one? I'd kind of like to just clear the game with Escher before going back to the others.

Good looking out! I was wondering if this game had any extras.

I've been playing the game on my new iPad lately and it's been heaven. This game just works. Simple, intuitive, and great fun (especially if you're a sucker for old-school PS1 RPGs).

Look at the scenario tab that you can access from the main menu. In order to unlock the last block you need to finish the game with all couples. I finished the game with another couple and I was surprised at how different their story was from their perspective. I also love how your genes and money carry over to all the couples, makes the run with the other couples much faster.

The whole thing with flexible level difficulty vs loot, optional random encounters, pairings fighting in a dungeon... in competition with each other, because they're trapped...

SOUNDS AN AWFUL LOT LIKE THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU, SQUARE!

I like it... I like it A LOT!

I'm really tempted to get this but I know I'll end up playing it more on the iPad so I guess I'm waiting for the uprezzed version before putting down my cash.

it's great to see some bigger companies put more genuine effort into the iDevices.

So I shouldn't be killing these "Grey Star" bosses with Escher?

burgerdog said:
By grey star do you mean the 2nd and 3rd star from a dungeon? I *think* those are purely optional.

3rd and 4th I believe. The recolored bosses that are level 81.

I'm trying to make sense of the topic on the GameFAQs board and it seems like the progression is something like this:

  • First Credits First Couple
  • Second Credits First Couple
  • First Credits Second Couple
  • Second Credits Second Couple
  • First Credits Third Couple
  • Second Credits Third Couple
  • First Credits Fourth Couple
  • Second Credits Fourth Couple
  • Remaining "grey star" bosses for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Couple
  • Qualia?
    for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Couple

Yeah, sorry I meant 3rd and 4th. Wow, if you really need to beat the lv81 bosses that's going to take a while. I'd suggest just going up to the second credits with all couples then see if you can fight the Qualia.

I actually beat the one in the first dungeon at level 60 today. After the second credits I was 44 and I've been grinding 91-100 to get high enough to beat the Grey Bosses. As Qualia is 90 something, I figure you probably would have to anyhow. Around my level, I could probably clear all 8 greys in 30-45 minutes or less. Not a big deal unless you had to do it for every couple.

That thread also mentions
recolored character battles, like arena I guess?
I'm not sure how that works, but it supposedly gives the best armor and weapons(probably not necessary for Qualia, but the game is short enough that I kind of want to get it).

It runs just fine on the 3G - so it should work flawless on a 2G touch.

Dragona Akehi said:
Good to know. It'll prolly be my first purchase when I get the Touch that S-E is sending.

There's an option to turn off some effects that makes the game run better on non-3GS phones. Mine's a 3GS though, so I can't be of much help there. Page or two back had some impressions if I recall.

Fun website.

Could this be the game that's the first true turning point for iPhone OS gaming?

The recolored
arena battle is in the 5th dungeon.
I gave it a shot at lv55 last night and got destroyed. That might be the only boss battle other than the Qualia which will require you to be pretty damn high level.

I have my next two runs well mapped now so they shouldn't take too long to clear. I'm just playing a few other things right now and will get back to the game tomorrow.

So what's the incentive to revisit dungeons at a higher level? Are the same bosses there for you to beat again? I just beat the first dungeon at lvl 9 and it gave me the option to go at it again for lvls. 11-20 and 21-30. Should I?

Get better equipment, level up and learn new skills/genes.
