Chase liked his dream sequences a little much in The Sopranos

Seems like every season Tony (mostly, though most characters get a dream a thon) gets a couple dream episodes. Some of them are good of course but fuck man Chase probably thought he was a genius with some of this stuff.

I'm on like my 5th or so watch and that's always been where it all slows down.

But yeah this show man....still amazing. What an actor Gandolfini was. I can just watch Tony sit around talking about whatever.

And now that I live in PA, my NJ nostalgia is through the roof. I grew up in the area that's depicted in the show (Newark, and ran around all of the surrounding towns), and the show nails the people and the places and the vibe in jersey. It's a state treasure. Much like, but not to the extent of, The Wire.

I just love this show so much. And I didn't have to dig out the DVDs with now that HBO Now is a thing.

Yeah the dream episode odes were always the most interesting part of the show. I kind of wish the show wasn't about such heinous people because I think I'd think more fondly on it if it wasn't. I know that sounds odd but when I look back at the show I think of it as just fills with so much unpleasantness.

The dream episodes and any segment with his therapist was just wasted time usually. It's why I'll never understand why people say The Sopranos > The Wire. It's laughable. There was no filler in The Wire.

The name Kevin Finnerty has stuck with me over the years, I really enjoyed those dream episodes. I love the Sopranos too man, I definitely need to get into watching it over again.

the only dream sequence i didn't like, and i don't know if it counts, was the coma dream purgatory or whatever. he has Alzheimers? err..

anyway i don't think there were that many dream sequences... i remember five at the most in the show's whole run. in fact some of them i really liked seeing the twisted unconscious side of tony's psyche . like the fever dream episode where he came to terms Pussy had flipped... something about the talking fish was just really creepy to me

No the therapy sessions where excellent man.

That's part of what makes it so good.

These people are so warm and funny as hell, and Tony himself can be such a sweetheart sometimes and then BAM something happens that makes you feel sick about a certain character. Chase and his writers liked to do that to great effect.

Paulie Walnuts is like everyone's crazy uncle....except he's a legit psycho.

Sopranos is pretty much the ultimate show. Created an open canvas for future programing, which has yet to be surpassed.

The dream sequence with Gloria in Everybody Hurts is my favorite scene in the entire series. I always forget how it goes but she says something like:

"What do you want to see, this (pointing to her crotch)? Or this (insinuating the scar from when she committed suicide)?

If I had a dream like that I would need to take a week off work.

I think Funhouse probably has the best depiction of dreams I've seen put on film.

Absolutely agree.

Very surreal and trippy at the same time just like dreams tend to be. The dreams related to what Tony was going through while he was sick and dreaming e.g. a lot of stress which was focused on in the therapy sessions.
