Hmm, HMV is weird. I was about to order Fallout 3 and it instantly kills Firefox, and I can't even create an account with IE. :(

Solution: Create an account with Firefox and place order with IE. :lol

what I hate is how you get punished for supporting the game on day 1 by having the price drop, in some cases in half, a week or two later.

Although this discussion is OT, personally I consider I support the games I like by buying them, although I buy them usually when they are cheap (not necessarily bargains), and I support the industry by buying tons of games. The price model of price drops in weeks is not designed for people like me, it is for people who base their purchases on hype and what's the last cool game; people who often buy a few games per year. An industry who wanted to satisfy people like me would sell games from day 1 at about 50-70% of what they are selling them today; but they chose differently, probably because it makes more sense to their bottom line or at least they think it does.

I understand that gaffers (like you probably) who buy tons of games and like them on day one for the good reason are the type of consumer that is most affected by this industry practices, but that is your choice ...

Peronally I have never seen so many brandnew games getting big price cuts so fast. I used to be a big supporter of 'Day 1' games because I didn't feel like waiting months for the first major price cut but now I'm not so sure....

I was just wondering. 150E tax-free import limit is from today, or Jan 1st 2009?

Should be today. I shot off an email to the customs people. Will keep you updated either here or a new thread if/when I get a reply.

lol at the Bioshock PS3 price in play.com!

Ordered even though I doubt I'll never open it, but I'm sure to profit via resale.

I was all set to get Prince of Persia, until I remembered that its one of those franchises that ends up being super cheap a couple of weeks after. Not sure how to play this one now, waiting won't be so painful, but I have lots of stuff to trade in before they lose their value!

Store credit it is then...

Yeah, now days I wait a week or two and you get bomba prices.

I'm not sure what angle you're trying to take here, but please (everybody) don't turn this wonderful thread into a debate/discussion. I don't want to be sifting through loads of discussion and miss a good deal, and I'm sure nobody else does!

I used to be the same in the PS2 era... Now things have changed. I have a PS3 and I can get all my games anywhere which is cool. Only the other day I realized more that 50% of my PS3 games are US versions -I'm in Europe- and from a couple months back games can actually be found cheaper in Europe (the UK that is) than in the US so it's great. Instead of buying a new release I can wait 2-3 months and buy 2 or 3 games for the same amount. It's been years since I last bought a game at full price.

Agreed, sorry.

To go back on topic, I just bought Bioshock PS3! Thanks!

Maybe i understood it wrong but i heard it isn't 150€ tax-free but only 150€ dutytax-free, so you still have to pay the normal taxes ??

Looks like I was just in time for Far Cry 2 (PS3). They removed it from the 'Mega Monday' deal page.

But they also added a couple of games. Like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (PS3) for €14, seems like a good deal to me. :D

Yeah that's right. There's seems to be a widespread misunderstanding that there will be no tax.

Shaun White Superior Version (Wii :-P) is now £24.47 at The Hut.

Also you guys all know about that the £17.99 prices at Play.com are still on for:

Shaun White
Far-Cry 2 (!)
Saint's Row 2 (hell yeah)

Be sure to check the right sku since the new ones are already in place (the games are going back to £34.99) in fact Ace Combat 6 is already up to 44Eur from 13.44 (yesterday).

Also Speed Racer -Wii is £9.99

GO-GO-GO!

Warning to Euro people ordering from Play.com. it seems their conversion rates have gone up again, and now £19.99 turns out to be €27.99. I think that is an extra 51c. It does not seem that bad, but it should covert to €21.22 with current rates, so I though they might have put the Euro price down a bit instead of going up.

Also, for a 5% discount on orders from the site you can fill out this RAC form. You can blag everything and it will still give you a working code. If you want a second code, then you can clear your cache (or just Ctrl+F5) and blag away again.

It's at that price on Play.com as well. :)

You might find this is a side effect of the recent reduction in the UK VAT rate from 17.5% to 15%. Not sure if this applies to Play.com or not as I think they're based offshore.

It's from 2008-12-01, but it applies to import duty tax only, and not VAT.

Here in Portugal, before this date, customs usually let packages pass through without charging VAT if they were exempt from import duties, because the VAT value was so low that it just wasn't worth all the paperwork, handling, storage, mailing notices, etc.

Now that the duty tax exemption was raised to 150€, I don't know how they are going to handle it. We're treading new territory, and the only way to know is to try and buy something.

I have ordered memory sticks for my PSP from them a good few times, and also some Seinheisser headphones. They ship from the Jersey Islands so it takes a little bit longer to get to you, but they're legit products, well packaged too. They often have discount codes so I'll post any if I see them. I never had a problem so I'm not sure what their customer service is like. Being able to order in GBP is nice!

EDIT: Space Invaders Extreme is only £2 more, which is the better game? :(

Bangai-O Spirits is the better game, but Space Invaders Extreme is really good.

Space Invaders by far. Bangai O is silly goose.

I ordered Far Cry 2 on Sunday night when the deal went up, and I didn't get my shipping e-mail until earlier this afternoon. I guess they got hammered with orders?

I ordered Bioshock, Far Cry and Saints Row on Sunday night and all are still packing, my credit card was already charged for two games, so I hope it'll go well.

Edit: They changed to shipped right now. :) Awesome!

Ordered last night at 10pm. One order is "Taken" the other is still showing as "Placed".
No rush, I'm sure they have an assload to get through. As long as its here by Chrimbo.

I know not strictly gaming but Argos are doing a Blu ray player for £99.99, less after you take the new VAT off (done at the checkout)

Argos

You can now get a 360 premium and a blu ray player for £270, £30 cheaper than a PS3!

That looks suspiciously like a re-badged Samsung. Like, all the controls are in the exact same place, same size, everything. Just looks matte instead of glossy.

Like I've said before, you'd be silly to pick up Mirror's Edge and/or Tomb Raider right now. They'll be under £20 by Christmas, definitely.

Exactly. 19.99 and I'll bite on Mirror's Edge.
