Chilliwack BC..also known as WTF!?

ah yes. The Whack. place is basically like that detritus of redneck that surrounds the city in GTA V but the Canadian Rockies edition.

I feel bad for the homeowner, but it was hilarious seeing the same people constantly barge into his garage to steal and/or pickup drug packages. Jesus christ.

I watched this last night before going to bed. I then proceeded to have a dream that someone was breaking into my apartment, and woke up screaming "INTRUDER!!!" at the top of my lungs.

Went through chilliwack few summers ago for a hiking day. Wanna know how I know the place is depressing? One of the most gorgeous girls I've ever seen in person was working at that Burger King there. Probably would've been scooped up to be a model or actress anywhere else.

Surrey get's way too much of a bad rap because of the gang violence but as a city it's actually very big and diverse, scenery wise.

I went to SFU's Surrey campus a few times and it was the only place where I regularly saw people drinking beers on the sky train at 9:00am.

I've driven through it though, but never stopped. My BC friends suggested that it was for the better. Looks like they were right on the money.

This.

Though New West seems to have been slowly getting a bit nicer in the 8 years that I've stayed away from it...

You should have seen how much worse it was in the 80s. I have long considered New West to be Surrey's North Shore.
New West is totally clean now I'd say. I moved there in 2009 and it's only gotten better. I'm struggling to think of trouble spots.

I heard the skytrain did a number on it in the 80s, bringing in crime etc. But it seems they've cleaned it up.

I have lived in Chilliwack for 5 years and we love it here. We are in the Sardis area and it has great trails and lakes, good schools and neighbors.

I'm vaguely familiar with this part of town which I believe is close to a recovery house or third stage transitional housing or something like that... I drove through that part of town once when my wife had a soccer game and somebody kicked my car for no reason.

I'm from Surrey and the only time I go near Chilliwack is when I want to go to all the places that are not Chilliwack.

Try spending some time next summer in Cultus lake and doing some of the trails close to Vedder river. The residential areas in that area are very nice, I think you'll have a good time.

This is coming from someone who grew up in a decent part of England.

Well except for the best ski resort in North America.

Essentially Vancouver, Tofino, Gulf Islands, Victoria, Whistler, and Okanagan. Everywhere else is gross in BC.

EDIT - Well I mean the nature is beautiful. I'm just talking about the cities / towns.

Cultus Lake is super nice! Used to go there with my family.

Is this like the Canadian version of Florida? These people are insane. The whole damn town needs to be locked up in an asylum apparently.

Rural and small town western Canada is like this. Anything west of Sudbury, really. Full of meth heads, souped up 4x4s, crime, and white people complaining about how immigration is ruining their country.

It's basically like the parts of America they show in COPS.

I think if you put any camera on an intersection for long enough in any town you'd be able to compile a collection like this. I see terrible, insane drivers all the time.

Pretty sure gentrification is about to go full-blast on E Hastings - if it hasn't already that is.

It's been hitting it for the last 5 years and accelerating each year.

The bigger gentrification that's occurring is in Chinatown though. Give that 5 to 10 more years and it will be a rich neighbourhood, but that influences E.Hastings even more then the Gastown gentrification that has been occurring for last 5 years.

Sad. Whatever charecter Chinatown had will be whittled away and turned into overpriced Tapa bars. At least Tabris will have more places to eat.
