Wow. So shameless.Confidence Man said:
They're not. They are running the same OS as an official DS. If it wasn't for the build quality being slightly off you could not tell the difference.Einherjar said:Isn't the DS Emulator open source? I bet it's just running linux and emulating the DS lol.
In order to do that you'd need the fake DS to have the power of a good desktop PC, and probably a couple of years worth of emu optimisation targeted at that platform. If a fake DS could do that, (i) it would be a bombshell on every gadget blog and (ii) please take my money.Einherjar said:Isn't the DS Emulator open source? Yeah, it seems like many clones in the old days came into being because the real thing wasn't available everywhere. Like the Spectrum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ZX_Spectrum_clones (all 47 of them!)Codeblue said:Add me to the list of people who got duped into buying that fake Famicom. My parents bought it for me when I was like 6 and the only games I can remember on it were Contra and some tank game with a level editor that was pretty fun. I always thought it was weird that all the games were programmed on it, and didn't figure it out until a couple of years later when I learned about that type of stuff.
I lived in the Middle East at that time though so I'm sure that the real thing was near impossible to find and these things were everywhere.

That looks like a cat where the D-Pad and Face Buttons are its eyes and the start and select button are its teeth.
Oh god you're right. It's like the Koala 64KittenMaster said:That looks like a cat where the D-Pad and Face Buttons are its eyes and the start and select button are its teeth.

The third button was one and the Blue Button on the top was another.
I miss my phantom system. Many hours wasted on Ninja Gaiden and Double Dragon. That controller is not that bad, it's just a Knock Off Genesis controller.
I wonder who the fuck came up with this one tho:

It was another NES Clone controller - it was awful.

A massive proportion of the flash memory on ebay (SD cards, USB drives etc) has had the same thing done. 'Bargain' SDHC cards are almost always fake, packaging and all. The sellers tend to have 99% good feedback, because most people don't notice they've been screwed until much later on.spindoc said:What's amazing about the fake HDD, is how they went the extra mile and modded the USB firmware. It shows up as a 500gb drive when plugged in and when writing files to the USB drive, it continually rewrites over the oldest set of data, so you never get a "out of disk space" error. Ridiculous!
Grr, don't remind me. I bought one of the Zelda edition DSLs and then lost it when I took it with me on a family trip. Still have the external box, inserts, and all that jazz :-|.Jackano said:Another problem is on some online retailers, you can get refurbished (or second-handed) DS units with brand-new third party plastic shell. The Zelda limited unit is particularly present on ebay, it can sell very well but still is a counterfeit. However, this particular model is easy to spot, the real thing only came in its Phantom Hourglass bundle.

T-Frog said:Update: bogus DS seller has offered a refund if I leave them 5-star positive feedback. Classy! Dispute resolution it is, then.

he tried it out in store and it seems to work!
BUT they moded USB firmware to act like 500gb hdd, and all files go in the loop!
So you upload file11 and you upload more files, and when space is low it delete the big part of file11, just few bytes are there so you have a feeling that file11 is there
ebay is safe enough, just don't get a new one (with FREE GIFT) from HK.The Spoony Hou said:Fuck. I was planning on buying a DSLite on eBay.
