Chinese zoos DO NOT MESS AROUND.

This thread sucks, if people didn't pay to go see it, then it probably wouldn't happen, so who are you really mad at? The Chinese Zoo? or The people who pay?

It's perfectly okay for pet stores to sell mice to kids, bred for the sole purpose of being fed to snakes as living prey, but GOD FORBID the Chinese do the same.

I don't have a problem with this. I thought it was kind of strange at first, but not offensive. Sure, it isn't natural for them to "hunt" the cows and chickens like that...but seeing shit getting killed riles people up, I guess. Fuck, zoo customers are the ones paying for it, right? The domestic cow and chicken were never going to be anything else other than food, and if I said I cared about the cow or the chickens feelings I'd be lying.

i wonder if those tigers prefer the taste of flesh and blood or if they prefer their meals in neogaf-user-approved humane pellets.

Maybe the Tigers/Lions were Japanese?

Chicken and cow?!

how is this different than you watching it shown on the discovery channel?

Guess what? nature ain't "humane
This is bullshit.

When was the last time the Discovery Channel aired an actual documentary? They are all about Mythbusters and all those other reality shows they have that pass for science stuff.

I do this with captured mice all the time. My mother has chicken and a cat, and whenever we get a hold of a live mouse we throw them to the chicken or to our cat. Actually, the chicken are the faster solution. Takes about 3 or 4 seconds till the mouse is ripped apart while the cat is taking it's sweet time to torture that little fella.

What
The
Fuck

Chickens are supposed to be annoying little pests. Not killers.

It has nothing to do with a got dayum animal dying or not! It's about people paying for the spectacle of an animal beIng killed. It's bloodlust pure and simple.

As this thread illustrates, it seems like more people could do with seeing how predators actually behave with prey. While I'm sure some people are just "Whoa cool bro lion eat cow lol" about it, there's a real lesson here about the power of these animals and just how efficient killers they are and indeed have to be to survive in the wild.

Sucks for the cow, yeah, but in the wild prey is hunted to the point of exhaustion or injured and stalked until it cannot stand due to blood loss or infection. Predators kill things, and they're not nice about it. This should shock fewer first world citizens than it does.

This thread would have been a lot easier to wade through for all involved if it was phrased like this:

Unnecessary suffering = bad
Minimized suffering = good

No one is protesting lions eating the cow (I hope, you never know), just the way in which the cow met its demise. Kill it before the lions eat it, and the cow doesn't have to spend the last few seconds of its life suffering. I love steak, but I abhore the concept that the cow that gave me that steak was put through unnecessary suffering above and beyond the minimum level of suffering necessary to reach my plate.

I don't find anything wrong with the videos. Carnivores are being fed cow.

I'd only go there if they fed the lions Chinese people ...

... there is too many Chinese people ...

THERE ARE ONE POINT THREE BILLION OF THEM.

There's only like 3000-4000 tigers left.

Gaawwwwwd.

That's badass ... now if only there was Chinese people at the top of those poles ...

Hmmm.... this however..

Exactly.

The food "industry" puts animals into little cages with (almost) no way to go for THEIR WHOLE LIFE and then they get killed so little Tommy gets a burger for dinner or an egg for breakfast. Is that "humane", just because the animal got killed within 3 seconds? It doesn't matter that the animal was handled like an item and put in a cage for its whole life? If that's humane, why is humane considered to be "good"?

Maybe that cow had a better life and just the last few seconds/minutes were bad. If those lions/tigers don't get anything to eat, they will die as well. We wouldn't want Simba to die, won't we? In any way, meat-eating animals kill other animals - shocking. That's nature. But at least those meat-eating animals don't cage other animals for their whole life and then put them in a line to kill them at the end of that line. Even if they get killed at the end of that line within 3 seconds, don't tell me that the animals can't figure out that something bad is going to happen.

I'd only go there if they fed the lions Chinese people ...

... there is too many Chinese people ...

what the flying fuck...

I hope you mom gets raped by a tiger.

A fat Chinese one.

Uhh...okay?

I wasn't making some broad commentary on China as a country or anything. There's no disputing the fact that those tigers are overweight and that "Chinese medicine" is the main contributing factor to the endangered species status of tigers. In fact, they probably won't even exist in the wild any more within 30 years.

Some of you guys need to calm the f**k down.

I'm not sure why so many people are pretending this is about the food chain, saving money, factory farming and all this other ad hoc bullshit. Most of the people in this thread are being completely disingenuous in the name of condescending to other.

You are either bothered by the blood lust or you aren't. Personally, as a lame animal loving vegetarian, I am bothered by the "spectator sport" vibe here.
Others aren't. Chill Gaf. Fucking Chill. Or at least talk about whats actually happening instead of fabricating a million reasons why the other side is stupid and misses some point that isn't even there.

It's fucking embarrassing to read this hand wringing from both sides.

This is crazy.

The only thing I thought was "bad" was how they drove too fast around the tigers. I was kind of afraid one of those animals would be hit by the feeders.

Also, for every one who thinks that this doesn't happen in the states, it does.

http://www.radiolab.org/2007/jun/04/dead-or-alive/

This is about a zoo in Ohio that does live feeding, at the zoos, and lets the average person come and see it happen. Granted, they only do it once a year, but they call it "The Big Feed" and make a huge event out of it. It's also a big hit.

edit: my memory was fuzzy. They just send out carcasses

Still, it is a silly line to draw, I think.

Because I'm right.

... and obviously joking ... smh

So are racial joke posts okay on gaf now?

This is crazy.

That's funny because as I watched it, I wondered why he was going so slow ? I mean he really honked and let those tigers just kind of mosey out of the way. I think if they got nudged a little, it wouldn't hurt them. And they learn to move out of the way. I know they want the food but I think they could be trained. I think he was lenient. If I was in that situation, I'd probably want to be armed just in case one managed to break a window. I think industrial strength pepper spray would deter them and you could drive away.

As for the zoo feeding, that's really tame compared to the serious animal abuse I read about that occurs in that country. The caged bile bears are particularly disgusting. But ideally, at least the prey in the truck should have been knocked out or put down first and rolled out of the truck. They put the animal under a lot of stress before it died. Nature is one thing, but that is deliberate. As for feeding mice to snakes, I've seen people swing the mouse by the tail and knocking it out cold before tossing it in. I've even heard of pet snakes getting injured by fighting the pray, so it's better to knock the rodent out first.

But with the other zoo video, knowing the level of a chicken's brain, it's hard to feel bad for it. I actually laughed when he flung it across to the tigers. He's braver than me. There is no way I'd hold a live chicken in my hand in a China Zoo. That seems like an invitation to disease.

I don't know about others but I can see that those animals died the way they were supposed to as food for other animals. They were sacrificed so that those other animals can live in as captives in the zoo.

I think my problem would stem from the part "captives in a zoo". Their genetic code is hunting, as their prey often share in, but not everyone can be the top of the chain. Bears eat fish eat shrimp eat algae - thats how they were made. Tigers weren't made to be fed cows off a truck, they were made for the hunt.

I don't believe in God but I do believe in what has worked for thousands/billions of years and thats always been that tigers live in the wild and hunt food.

Then again we weren't meant to be so lazy so I could certainly see how some could argue this as an "evolutionary step". I don't see it.

Being dumped unceremoniously out of the back of a truck into the middle of a bunch of hungry tigers must be one of the shittier feelings in life. I can only imagine what the cow's thinking when it realizes just how utterly fucked it is.
The cow is "thinking" one of the following. "Moo" or "Hungry" or maybe "danger." Assigning it human feelings and thought processes is foolish.

haha really now?
what are we back in the 50's
defining animals by such broad automated simplistic BS

animals have a very broad sense of emotions
even simple ones like rats

some people should google the word slaughterhouse - pretty sick. I don't have the feeling that we have the moral high ground, if you are not a vegan.

It's an empty point, but I can't help wondering what this thread would look like if they were feeding the tigers stray dogs and cats.

That's probably not true actually. Our understandings of animal intelligence have moved forward since when your dad was in school, and repeated what he learned to you.

That cow was treated and killed more humanely than anything you've bought in a grocery store.

The outrage in here is dumb.
I'll take a bullet to the head over slow strangulation by one cat while another is eating my butt.

First vid of a cow sliding out and Tigers eating it. RAGE.

Second video of a guy sliding out with a mini-gun and gunning down all the Tigers thinking that it was a cow again. RAGE.

Expecting all people everywhere to response how they would respond but don't.... RAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Don't change GAF.
