Choose One: Lose Sight or Lose Hearing

Just a little thought experiment. I asked the same question to my younger brother and suprisingly came to differing opinions, context: I'd rather lose hearing over sight. As much as I love music and shit (I really enjoy orchestral tracks) I believe sight is just too damn important to function throughout life at the basic level, plus gaming.

So what's GAF'S mixed and/or majority opinion?

I'd lose hearing. Dunno if I could live without sight at this point in my life. Feel like I am too old to adjust.

Id rather lose sight. Music is my favorite art form and I'd prefer to still enjoy it.

Plus, have you ever seen a movie with the sound off? Not for me.

Also, touch+sound beats touch+vision every time.

Lose my hearing for sure. Can still watch TV, play games, only thing I can't do is listen to music anymore. Take away my sight and I literally have to relearn how to do everything, and some things are no longer possible to do.

100% hearing, I don't need to hear my computer to use anything but audio creation software or consume music. Everything else requires sight and I can roll with subtitles on stuff.

Are you honestly trying to say that you'd have a better time experiencing a movie by the sounds alone than from just visually watching it with subs?

Honestly, I'd probably stop any kind of film/tv/videogame consumption. I can find other ways to entertain myself.

I think losing your hearing has more social costs than losing your sight, because most people communicate through speech, so I don't think it's as easy of a decision as most people think.

So you'd give up films, tv, video games and being able to have a normal life for music?

Your life would get exponentially harder as a blind person.

I've already lost most my hearing so that for sure, especially after watching my mum go partially blind and feel her pain as her world been turned upside down.

I'd rather lose hearing. Even though I love music, I pretty much need my sight. Without it I basically couldn't live my life, whereas without hearing, it would suck, but I could get by.

I'd lose hearing. Atleast you can still see new places and be self sustaining instantly if you're deaf.

Even though I listen to music for like 5 hours a day. I'd really miss that.

This is a tough question.

I'd just rather die tbh.

I hate the Gaffers who comment "I would/want to die" in every thread. It's incredibly irritating.

Lose hearing of course

It would suck that I could no longer listen to music, but at least I'd be able to play video games and browse the web

Have a totally blind from birth sister.

Hearing, easy.

Still, if you guys are talking about something minor like enjoying a movie with the sound off vs a movie with the video off, there are actually plenty of dialogue heavy movies that I would rather watch with the sound off than the video off. If you think about it, you might feel the same. Pulp fiction for example. My sister loves that movie for Samuel L Jackson. Would she love it as much without hearing him? I don't think so.
