Chris Grannel, ex Sony dev interview.

Yes tons of them. Especially ones in the same industry. That's why I expect he does, because I have.

Just out of curiosity how old are you? I should be fair I asked the question and you answered and I should accept your answer but I find it highly improbable that you have "tons" of friends from an old job that you left 10+ years ago, that's just not something that most people do and this guy really isn't even in the same industry anymore.

Dealer gaming really....we are that low here now. Might as well start posting crapgamer links and insert RACKEM UP

So basically about the same circumstances as the Crytek dev in the interview they gave, then. That's why all of these type of interviews should come with a pinch of salt; if they have some prior history working for a platform holder, they probably have a tiny bit of skin in the game.

Doesn't mean their points aren't worth taking into consideration when it comes to the larger scale discussion, however.
100% agree.

This guy is readily dismissed by many in this thread. Yet, the Crytek guy is held up as gospel.

Personally, I'm waiting for the actual releases...and probably some Digital Foundry dissection/comparisons.

I dont know why people here hate Dealer but he was spot on XSX details way before everyone else and he has amazing guests on his podcasts (not just developers but also MS engineers), so even if he is biased there's a lot of interesting informations in his materials.

I made a transcript of the part of that podcast where he said "he talked to devs"
He was literally pulling shit out of his ass.

Wasn't that around the time that Tim guy was saying MS wasn't communicating with developers very well and holding info back?

I'm getting at the fact that you are spreading false information. Smartshift is not just "a bonus" in the PS5's variable clock management. It's what Cerny promised retail units would have and that's it. As for the max frequencies, anybody can look in the smartshift documentation how they will be managed. Cerny wouldn't claim smartshift if the PS5 was improving on it. It's what it is.
Wrong again.

SmartShift is only used to transfer power from CPU to GPU when the logic inside the Power Control Unit chooses to.

The Power Control Unit that does the variable clock even when SmartShift is not used..

The Power Control Unit that doesn't all the downclock.
I would reply but you didn't make sense. Literally. Usually you just lie. This time you bugged.

If you meant that the PCU doesn't ALLOW the downclock, remember the clocks are variable in the PS5.
If you meant that the PCU doesn't DO the downclock, who cares? There is downclock depending on the workload. That's smartshift. You can't have smartshift but not smartshift.

If you do little research you will understand.
SmarShift doesn't do downclock based in workload lol

SmartShift transfer non-used power from CPU to GPU (and vice-versa but PS5 only allow one way).

The PCU monitors and control the frequencies of both CPU and GPU all the time. When it decides it needs SmartShift it use it to transfer power.

It is an addiction feature used just when CPU has power to spare and GPU needs more power.

Old enough lol.
I'm talking about all the jobs I have had I have friends from all of them.
The company I was at 10 years ago I could ring three guys right now and have a good chat.

To be fair he didn't have any unique knowedge.
He was just sticking by everything we all ready knew.
12tflops, Zen2 8/16, SSD, 16GB RAM.

They are still there after 10 years? that's pretty rare these days but good for you. I don't believe that's the case with this guy though, developers leave and go to different studios all the time, This guy doesn't sound like someone who was all that heavy into the industry to begin with so I find it hard to believe he's got a bunch of besties at places he's never worked who are willing to break their NDA's to talk to him so he can spread things out on his twitter account. It's one thing when it's a journalist who builds relationships with people over time and keeps in touch because it's part of his job, that's far more believable than what this guy is trying to pull.

Yeah I don't about that Chris guy.
I also don't know what motivation he would have to make stuff up to shit on Sony with.
The only reason I would think is he didn't leave Sony on good grounds and he hold a grudge.

Personally I like his content because he has interesting guests and I can listen to them. They are not always saying what Dealer wants to hear and for example In his last podcast Code told him because all xbox games are multiplatform developers will build their games with the lowest common denominator and according to Code that's not even lockhart, but PCs with slower I/O speeds (that's exactly what many people fear). Probably the only games that will use next gen hardware fully will be PS5 exclusives, so even if XSX is stronger we will see the best looking games on sony console.

A lot of my closest friends come from different places and studios I've worked and even from University. In the end you develop more affinity than just work so I don't know what people are on about. It's not like you just brush them off when you leave the place for another one lmao!
