Huh. So they're not 3D animation films? Now I'm even more confused.

Disney has been making live action re-telling of classics animated (and live action) films for a while. They started with Alice in Wonderland, then Oz, then Maleficient. We're getting a Cinderella movie in 2015. Then Jungle Book the next year I guess.

I guess WB wants in on the money.

That is an awesome cast. Bale, Blanchett, and Benedict are top 10 actor folk for me these days. Serkis is no slouch either. I hope they include my favorite mongoose in this.

Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and now Jungle Book and Cinderella.

I guess we should expect a Beauty and the Beast. There's already been a 101 Dalmatians.

I couldn't care less about either one. Both sound unappealing for a variety of reasons.

I also can't believe Warner Bros are going to release both Tarzan and Jungle Book adaptations within 6 months of each other.

The only Jungle Book anything I've seen is Stephen Sommer's Jungle Book which I loved when I was a kid.

Now there are two being produced at the same time? With a super serious name?

I'll probably see both. Even though they won't, I would kill to see both of them come out within the same year. Just to see people's confusion.

For some reason, I didn't know the Jungle Book movie is already 47 years old.

Still remember watching it for the first time at my grandparents when I was little. Good stuff.

Didn't feel it was really worth it's own thread, but first behind the scenes photo (terribad quality though)...

And a recent article:

The latest 'Jungle Book' revamp will blend live-action with photorealistic CGI imagery in 3D, and is set for an October 2015 release date.
Directed by Jon Favreau (“Chef,” “Iron Man,” “Elf”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world.
