Christina Aguilera's BIONIC thread (amazing producers lineup inside!)

I like the more electric stuff she has on here.

Bionic is hot, but the chorus could be better in every way (lyrics, beat)

Denudate has potential but seems average. Elastic Love could be cool but I can't judge from the clip.

Vanity and Bionic seem standout.

I bought my wife tickets to a show in July. Christina's her favorite and she's never seen her live. I'm not necessarily a fan, but I think it'll be an entertaining show.

You think that sounds... epic? It's generic shitty pop.
You mean, it's pop, but you don't like pop and thus you think it's generic and shitty.

Dude, almost everything in all genres is generic.

But he likes shitty music, so I don't understand his complaining....

The "generic pop" songs on the album do sound a little plain, by the book. I'm surprised the ballads seem to be the most impressive songs on it imo. And I'm definitely not a ballad fan, I want my pop music up tempo and catchy. But the 10second snips from the ballads and the few leaks/live performances that go around the internet have me interested.

(I just saw this performance of Lift me up. Except for a few little details, it seems to come right of the album. God this woman's voice is impressive!)

What? I love pop music, what are you talking about? :lol

Fine, everything is generic. But that Christina song is incredibly boring and bland. There's no reason I'd have to listen to it when there's so much better pop music out there.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of pop music do you like? I guess I just can't hear what specifically about this isn't "pop genius"...? :/

As of late, Janelle Monae and of course Lady Gaga, but that's always. The new Rihanna album is good too. Christina has done good stuff in the past but now she's just trying to fit in with what's popular and it sucks ass.

What about "Woo Hoo" is "pop genius" or "epic"? There's nothing special or interesting about it.

The intro for starters... the eerie choir, the ambient build up with the echoey plucked instrument... the beat itself is great? ... the chant/chorus is unlike anything I've heard for years and years... it's got so much fucking swagger it kicks the Fergie style rap shit to the curb... the vocal effects are great and all the synths and production wizardry. The second verse is just flawless... "I'm a little tipsy/play along with me" haha it's great. Then we have the "woohoo" motif running throughout, occasionally being used to censor naughty words. Nicki's rap is fucking epic, lovin' the Jamaican style rappin' with all the vocal effects. Then outro with the experimental sounding synths and flanges/reverbs etc... what exactly does this sound like to you?

Most of these sound much better than Not Myself Tonight. There seems to be quite a bit of variety in songs too, perhaps thanks to the big list of different producers. NMT and the few leaked tracks left me thinking this album would be a big stinker, but it might turn out to be a good album afterall.
Didn't like a single one.

:(

Not a single thing you just said stood out to me. At all.

... and "swagger"? :lol

The album jumps around too much with no clear direction. It should have been called "Stripped, Again"

I think the run of songs from 11-15 is divine. I dig the Santigold and MIA callabo's because they basically sound like Santigold and MIA songs. Overall, an OK album.

I like Vanity, although it doesn't just walk the line, but hops back and forth over it, of cool and corny.

They call me stuck up, but I'm not at all, nevermind I am
Hm. This is a hot song, and would be good for the gym and clubs

I take myself to be my LAWFULLY WEDDED BITCH
Oh.

I don't know if anybody has already posted this, but her summer tour has been postponed to 2011. It sucks cause I got my wife tickets in july for her birthday and she really loves Christina.

From her site:

Dear fans,

I made the decision to move my summer tour and I am truly sorry to those of you who had purchased tickets and have been disappointed by the news. Immediately after wrapping production on Burlesque, I went directly back into the studio and then quickly started the promotional process for Bionic. With both the album press and film press I am booked the entire summer and need time to focus on the work at hand. After reviewing the schedule with my team, I realized there was not enough time to put together and rehearse for a proper show, one that is at the caliber you expect from me or at the level I would present to my fans. In addition, my album has not even been released as yet and I would like for you all to become familiar with the music before you hear it live on tour. Again, I am sorry to have to move the dates but I promise to come see you when the time is right!

I look forward to seeing you all on the road soon enough to get BIONIC…

With love,

C/X

Maybe part of the reason she's "not [her]self tonight" is that nearly everything in that video is cribbed off other music videos...particularly Madonna's "Express Yourself." I'm not a big fan of 'club' music, but I came into the thread to see if anyone else was going to point that out.
The "Express Yourself" similarity is so blatant that it HAS to be a nod to the video rather than just ripping it off. I don't actually mind the song, despite all the hate.

Aguilera confirmed it herself:

Aguilera confirms Madonna video tribute
Tuesday, May 25 2010, 17:31 BST

Christina Aguilera has confirmed that her latest video features several deliberate references to Madonna.

The singer, who took to the stage with Madonna and Britney Spears for a notorious performance at the 2003 VMAs, used her 'Not Myself Tonight' clip to salute the pop queen's legacy.

"One of my favourite videos ever is 'Express Yourself' by Madonna which came across as really strong and empowering which I always try to incorporate through my expression of sexuality," Aguilera said.

"I love the direct reference I made to Madonna with the eye glass moment and the smoke and stairs. I was paying tribute to a very strong woman who has paved the way before."

'Not Myself Tonight', the lead single from Aguilera's upcoming album Bionic, is available to download now.

Funny how it was an obvious ripoff/tribute to Madonna's video(s), while everyone was still crying bloody murder how it was all about Lady Gaga.

The album is quite weak and less thought out then her last. It's a mess.
I like Elastic Love a lot though. The delux edition cuts are hopefully good.

Madonna ripped off Lady Gaga.
I liked 'Not Myself tonight', hope the rest of the album is just as good

This really is a great album. What are people smoking?

Or is someone holding a bud up to my mouth while I sleep? :lol

Alot people already made their decision not to like it the day the video came out.

A lot of people decided not to like the video when the song came out.

And people decided not to like the song when they heard it was her.

Her personality and voice piss a lot of people off. Plus, she "competes" with these other girl pop acts by default, so diehard Britney fans or Gaga fans have to hate her.

So I'm previewing this thing on iTunes (came out today) and it feels...bad. Not catchy, not full of energy.

That the general opinion?

The album has a solid group of 10-12 songs. The problem is Christina Aguilera doesn't know how to edit herself so the album is all over the place.

Its sad, out of all the pop tards she has one of the most memorable voices yet she doesn't know how to harness it.

Pretty much.

Some songs are great, but my god does this album also have stinkers that make me embarrassed to be listening to them. It doesn't happen too often I'm insulted by the lyrics of a song, but some of them are just headache inducing bad.

I'll just select the songs that I like and pretend the rest of the album doesn't exist.
