Chrono trigger, Final fantasy VII or Dragon quest v?

I remember Chris Avellone once saying that Chrono Trigger is a game design textbook, or something along those lines.

I've never played Chrono Trigger, but I'm playing Final Fantasy VII for the first time right now. Seven hours in and it doesn't even touch Dragon Quest V.

Dang so many that haven't played dragon quest 5. It's really a fantastic game. It's not as "epic" as the other two because it's a very personal story, but it really hit me hard.

Just play them in the order of their original release, dude.

Start with Dragon Quest V, then Chrono Trigger and finish off with Final Fantasy VII.

My personal favorite is DQV, by a small margin over CT. There are very few games that manage to pull off generational storytelling and this one does it incredibly well.

FFVII> DQV> CT

IS DQV that good?

Better than DQVII?

DQV is much shorter, but it's a tighter experience. The story is significantly better, and it felt overall more epic. DQVII on the other hand has a very good job system, but if that's what you're looking for, play DQIX.

I will recommend you to start from the worse to the best, so you wont get disappointed when you play the last game for comparing it with the previous games. You know, progressively better and then end them with a high note.

Hence FF7, dragon quest then chrono trigger.

Chrono Trigger and FFVII are excellent JRPGs, you really can't go wrong with either one. Flip a coin and get to playing! Dragon Quest V can be saved for later.
