In all honestly, there's only like 5 "iconic" images so far. Most of these are just stills from movies you like.

This thread is cool and all, but I think some people have a really loose interpretation of the term 'iconic'.

It doesn't mean post a cool pic of a movie you really like. In particular, I have a hard time putting any image from a movie made within the last 5 years or so in the iconic category.

Yeah, beat me to it!

Was about to say that. Not saying some movies can't be iconic because they are not from before the 00's, but I think stills from the Black Swan are far from being that.

I think we're finally moving into "Post scenes of movies I like" instead of "Post iconic images". A lot of these pictures really have no weight or iconic imagery contained within them.

These threads are kind of self-defeating. There's only so many universally accepted iconic images. After that it just devolves into covering niche/cult favorites or, as you said, "movies I like".

I was trying to think of very recent films that created an iconic image and I can't really come up with one. The only one that really sticks with me is that scene in Moon, where the main character (Rockwell) realizes his life is not what he thought, he breaks down crying and says "I want to go home". Then the director cuts to a wideshot of him on the surface of the moon looking up to the planet Earth. It was such a powerful image. Hard to say that is one, since it was such a niche movie but it will always be to me.

(not sure if that's the exact shot .. but you get the idea)

As well as images that aren't from the actual films.

Example:
The Blues Brothers image above is from the poster..not the film.

Not as thoroughly this page, but I'm amazed at how many of these images are just the character(s) in the dead center of the screen. Lot of great choices still.

Gone with the Wind

Alternatively I would have used the scene in which Rett carries Scarlett up the staircase, but sadly I cannot find a still for this.

Casablanca

You could probably also use the "Play it once, Sam, for old times' sake, play 'As Time Goes By'." Scene aswell.

Scar Face

A Clockwork Orange

The Rape scene accompanied by "singing in the rain" might also be considered to be iconic, but it's NSFW, and i'd rather not offend anyone with something like that.

Well, if the movie is popular enough (Or immortalized), I wold say there are more than 5. There's a lot of well known movies out there to choose from. I know I wouldn't remove any of my Cruise ones at least lol.
