Civilization VI - System Requirements

What kind of laptop should I look for? I really only do Civilization type games when it comes to PC. I want a new one, but not crazy expensive.

Is this lower than Civ 5? I know I can run that on my laptop.

Lower than Beyond Earth?

They are not

By the way, I am almost sure I am buying this game, but because there are new changes I really want to try it just in case. For example, I am a HUGE Anno fan and went into Anno 2205 blind and...yeah. Is there going to be a demo or a trial for Civ6?

Although I could never get online to work or figure it out, I loved Civ4 and Civ5 was a great upgrade. I couldn't play Civ4 after that. Civ6 looks to address and add a lot of things but I don't want to regret a full priced purchase.

How do my PCs hold up?

PC1 (office, 1900x1200monitor):
i3@3,3ghz
8gb ram
Nvidia Geforce GTX 560ti, 1gb

PC 2 (living room, 1080p TV):
i5-2500K 3,3GHz, overclocked somewhere above 4GHz
16gb ram
PowerColor Radeon HD 7970 3GB OC

My 2011 iMac should be okay. It has a 3.4 Ghz i7, 12 GB RAM, and a 6970M with 2GB VRAM.
I hope it doesn't become a trend of making an ugly game so more people can run it

I think a lot of it's art style. I'll have to wait until I actually play it for final judgment, but from screenshots I think Civ V looks better, though it has lower system requirements.

Yeah while I'm on the camp of Civ V looking more beautiful, Civ VI's graphics isn't "worse", it's just a different artstyle. I will concede that it is definitely more readable than V, and the while the artstyle might look simpler, don't forget that this is a Civ game, you have huge maps here.

It's a different artstyle, yes, and the artstyle is worse.

Nice specs for people with older PCs, the sad fact most of my games don't need a mega PC, but the I like playing single player AAA games as well which Need high end hardware.

Not surprising considering how bad the game looks.

I got over it the first time I saw it in motion, there's so much more life to it per-tile than ever before, the way the combat animations bleed into other tiles is sublime, and whilst busy can never not look busy in a game like this, I find the updated visuals easier to read at a glance. For now, can we just assume that mods will sort anything out that the masses don't like and get over it?

Aspyr has posted the Mac system requirements: https://web.facebook.com/aspyrmedia/posts/1107180969359893.

Civilization VI System Requirements for quick viewing:
• Operating System: MacOS 10.11 (El Capitan), 10.12 (Sierra)
• CPU Processor: Intel Core i5 (4 cores)
• CPU Speed: 2.3 GHz
• Memory: 6 GB
• Hard Disk Space: 15 GB
• Video Card (ATI): Radeon HD 6790
• Video Card (NVIDIA): GeForce 650M
• Video Card (Intel): Iris Pro
• Video Memory (VRam): 1 GB
• Peripherals: Macintosh mouse and keyboard
• Supported Gamepad: Steam Controller

Totally off the charts. Like, what on earth?

The game won't play on an Early-2015 Macbook Pro with 8GB of RAM!!!

? What do you mean. Early 2015 with D-gpus will play it without issue. Hell it'll probably play fine on a regualr Iris intigrated gpu.

Well, retina macbook pro from 2012 for the win then. I hope these aren't 30fps specs.

Hmm. I'm not so sure. By my read of the reqs, my early-2015 12" MBP with 8GB of RAM won't play it. And neither would a 2012 MBP.

Note that the requirements are minimums. Insanely high.

^^^^ Who do those graphs help exactly? Haha. How many people will be playing Civ 6 on 1080's, really.

People need to know if their clunky ass aged laptop GPUs will run this game.

Clearly that is not the case since we already know most integrated gpus can't run the game well enough.

Does high end cards suddenly change a persons taste to stop playing RTS / TBS / CRPGs etc etc? Well I know it doesn't for the people I know with a 1080. I think I'm the only one with a 1060 out of the group all on for a massive multiplayer game this weekend!

I didn't mean integrated, I just mean old cards like my 640m.

I don't really know why anyone with a 10x series card would need to check the benchmarks for Civ 6. I think those people are pretty safe!

By massive multiplayer do you mean you are playing a big Civ 6 multiplayer game over the weekend? That's gonna be epic. You should stream it!

You may want to wait till AMD will release the DX12 renderer, it may change things considerably.

When will that happen?
Prices on components seem to have increased in prices.

The PC builds I've been looking at as alternatives have increased about 1000 sek ($100) in price this week...

Now I can see a porting to iOS

OMG a 280x cant max this game out at 60 FPS even if a 7970 is the recommended GPU lazy devs, bad optimization!!!

I wasn't expecting anything much from DX12 for this, yet it seems performance is either slightly worse or more or less the same as DX11, bar the odd exception which still seems fairly irrelevant in terms of improved performance. Would be far better to see these results with different CPUs though

btw this game runs fine on my 640m.

I don't understand why this game isn't just streamed though. I personally appreciate being able to play civ in places with no internet, but at the same time, why limit your customer base, why not just let anyone by the game online and play in a browser.

You think they just have that server system sitting in their closet to run a game like Civ 6 on millions of clients at once? They'd have to make a deal with Microsoft or other major investor in servers/on demand system, which would cut away at their profits, esspecially with how long Civ games are supported and played.

Seems plausible to me. If you charge people 5 bucks a month to play a streaming version of Civ; that could be a huge bonus market. I'm not suggesting that everyone who usually buys the game will suddenly want to stream it, that's not realistic. But you could greatly expand your market by providing the option to people who have underpowered computers (or tablets etc). Also if you enact a 100% trade policy bonus you could double your quarterly profits, unless of course Barbarians pillage your production. But that's a risk I'd be willing to take.
