Classic Game Room |OT| Lord Karnage Approved!

This instantly made me think of this image that I ran across earlier in the "Pics that make you laugh" thread in the OT

I can definitely understand why people wouldn't like his reviews since he is so positive. But I also think that's why others do like them. At a time when everyone seems to be so negative, he's a guy that just seems to approach games to have fun, and that's it. He really doesn't care about anything else. And as he said, he doesn't treat some 100m game any differently than he treats some game that cost a million. It's just all about having fun. He's a breath of a fresh air in this industry.

Heh, this is pretty funny since I've been feeling as if his recent reviews have been going away from being about "fun". Some of his recent reviews have had more snide remarks than usual in my opinion. I've been feeling as if the videos have gone away from actually talking about the console or game and more about making jokes. His review for Forza Horizon 2 for example had so many jokes about hipsters that it felt like I was watching someone else give a game review (not CGR). It just felt strange.

The YouTube community has a lot of good gamers but there's a lot of trolling/console wars too. CGR is still a breath of fresh air in comparison to the latter but I must admit that I feel the tone of his more recent videos has changed a bit. Maybe it's just me though.

Nah, I feel it too from time to time, but on the whole he is still way less cynical than 99% of reviewers. I especially remember him dissing the Wii once or twice, which was extremely surprising (and a bit disappointing) to me. He seemed above that. He also swears more than he used to.

The early "Game Room" videos were a lot cruder and caustic than the current CGR stuff. I was pretty surprised when I went back to the Robotron 64 review, which has Mark and Dave do an extended segment about calling the N64 a "piece of shit".

This business about 'changing CGR' is not making me happy.

It's probably something dumb like a website layout change, or a move to yet another storage unit. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Mark won't change anything that really matters, since what really matters is himself.

Classic Game Room transforms into Modern Game Room

Joking aside, this could be a name change, actually.
In which case, I would be pissed off, because company/product names is what I do for a living, and I would have loved to work on the project.

Anyway I'm really curious.

Only Truxton 1? I was hoping that it'd be that he finally got Truxton II (Tatsujin-Oh)... still awesome, though! The arcade version of the first game looks pretty great.

Fantastic payoff :lol. I really enjoy Mark when he does crazy shit. Never heard of Truxton before, I wonder if it can top Star Soldier, it's my favourite shmup ever.

Truxton's pretty great. The power up system is very similar to Blazing Lazers / Gunhed on the TG-16 / PC Engine, so if you like that you'd like Truxton.

So in his new Thursday Q&A video, Mark has some things to say about Youtube, aka "this website" because he doesn't use the words in the video...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wlq5thsK1MQ (go to about 7:54)

He doesn't say it in as many words, but it sounds like some of his videos of recent games have had the revenue taken by game companies, and he is not happy about it. So, expect few reviews of recent games on his Youtube channel going forward. He left Youtube some time ago of course, and clearly is still having issues with Google's policies.

He also says that anyone thinking of getting into trying to make a living off of Youtube videogame reviews shouldn't do it, thanks to the copyright/taking revenue away issues.

On the other hand, he talks again about getting into longer-form videomaking again (in part because they can't take revenue away from that the same way as Youtube); remember he used to make documentaries (Westinghouse, etc.). He's working on a long (feature-length?) review of the Atari 2600 Jr. that will be on an upcoming Atari reviews collection DVD/Bluray. There's also a film on the current DVD, though I don't know how long it is, I don't have it.

What's up GAF? 99% of you CGR fans probably have no idea who I am anymore, but I'm the idiot who was always in those crude, Wayne's World style, Public Access lookin' reviews with Mark from back in 1999-2000. Yes - it's Dave from the OG Game Room:)

Well...I'm back reviewing games and making videos on all things retro. I just started a new channel a couple
months ago and I'm trying to post at least 1 new video each week. Unfortunately, I am not in space, I'm in Jersey and have a full time day job so, weekly is the best I can do for now!

Let me know what you guys think!! It's a work in progress but it's getting better each week.

Here is my latest review - GUNBIRD for the Sega Saturn. Happy 20th Saturn! Next year we can go drinking together.

I know you! I've actually been wondering what happened to you. Didn't know you posted here. I'll totally check out your reviews, man. Just subscribed.

Any chance of you and Mark doing some stuff again in the future?

KDash...your name makes me think of Cadash. Loved that game. Anyways yeah I'm trying to get something together this summer with Mark. Stay tuned and hopefully something cool happens:)

Thanks for subbing btw! I hope u like the channel

Cadash is a cool game, yeah! I got my name from K' (pronounced K Dash) from King of Fighters, though. Hah.

I watched your Gunbird review. It was pretty good. I should pick up a copy some day. I don't have many Saturn imports.

Looking forward to seeing you and Mark together again!
