Out of curiosity, do you play FPS games?

Yeah, and I'm not prone to motion sickness most of the time.minus_273 said:Out of curiosity, do you play FPS games?

1. The movie is a FPS with out the shooting. The movement is from level to level and the entire movie is just one perspective where you rarely see the person behind the camera. There a a clear separation between levels ( scenes) and there are enemy encounters at the end of each level . In addition the script for this movie could easily have been a FPS like half life where you only know as much as gordon freeman and nothing more.
2. The monster is Sin from FFX with the head of one of the monsters from resistance. Granted the resistance monster is some kind of arachnid thing, when you look at both Cloverfield and resistance monster side by side they look VERY similar.
3. The monster had Sin Spawn which behaved in a similar way.
JJ Abrams said he got the idea for the movie while in Japan and saw the merchandise there. I wonder what other influences there are other than the obvious Godzilla.

minus_273 said:wow, thats really close to the real monster. Even the limb arrangement is the same.

oh come on. seriously?ParticleReality said:Or Hudson which is a common nickname for people with that name.
_leech_ said:NO, NO, NO. I will personally letterbomb anyone who tries to ruin Cloverfield by making a game out of it.

so you don't think it's intentional they named him hudson?ParticleReality said:Yes. Ive known 6 people by the name of Hudson and they've all preferred the name HUD because Hudson is a silly first name.

I really do think games were a big influence on this movie.
And I swear there's a radio sound towards the end that is identical to the squawk that the Combine soldiers make in Half-Life 2.
Mark D said:Just read that piece you did. So, the relationship between Hud and Marlena reminded you Half Life 2: Episode 2? You don't seriously mean Cloverfield was influenced by a game that just came a few months ago. Yeah, it reminded you of the game, but it wasn't influenced by it.
As for the rest of Half-Life 2, there may be some parallels/coincidences, but going as far as to say Half-Life influenced Cloverfield's narrative style... nope, I don't buy it.

EDF and that game about the giant woman come to my mind.RubberJohnny said:I can't believe Hollywood beat gaming to Cloverfield.
First-person story about a giant monster attacking the city, smaller monsters to flee from and several set-pieces. This should have been done back in the PS2 era. Has there even been a game about a solitary giant monster attacking a city, that isn't a Godzilla based beat-em-up?

shagg_187 said:Not a FPS, but Alone in the dark says hi.
Also, to the OP, the first description my brother gave me of the monster was "Something straight out of Resistance."

TSA said:"Leaked" concept art of the monster was basically a Sin clone, and most people who haven't seen the movie are saying it is just like Sin, but if you saw the movie, the monster looks nothing like Sin. Anyone read the manga yet?I'm getting the vibe Mr. Cloverfield monster may be the result of a crazy, angry Japanese high-school boy's fantasies brought to life, aka Haruhi Suzumiya rip-off. And the "thing" that crashes into the ocean at the end...and the message at the end of the movie saying "It's Still Alive!". It's sequel time.
Edit: Basch, read my spoilers. I answer some your question.

No, it's explained by some satellite or a part of the satellite dropping into water. It was one of the events that somehow triggered the awakening of the monster. It was explained in the internet viral marketing campaign as far as I've read.TSA said:.
