Club Nintendo: European Discussion

How in the hell do you guys save up for the swag? I buy quite a lot of games but at 250 points a game i feel I'll never have enough to get anything decent.

1) be a club nintendo member since cube days
2) buy more games, I guess?
3) pay attention to surveys

buying a system with two games already gets you a thousand points, that's half a plush Pikmin.

I guess people just buy a lot more games than you do. :-)
There are no secrets (that I know of), except maybe for the surveys you can take part in once in a while (which only net you 50 stars anyway).

Yes I am those people XD, at least more 3DS games than most =P

Always find it sad to see people trying to monetize stuff they got for free. This seller probably also complained for months and months about the Stars Catalogue not containing anything interesting. Fortunately this was 'interesting enough' for him/her. :-)

As a matter of fact you're right - I did indeed moan because I had a large amount of stars getting close to expiring and absolutely nothing to spend them on! These Pikmin are/were interesting enough for me, I love them. I got a set originally back in 2009 and when more were put into the catalogue I decided to order a 2nd set and ebay my original set before my stars expired. i have not decided to sell my other set too, and never planned to - that is mine for keeps! I would prefer they filled it up with stuff I could use for myself, I am a huge nintendo collector, but doing it this way was better than seeing the stars expire! I still have over 26,000 stars and am looking forward to being able to order a set of pikmin keyrings for myself.

Well, first of all, I understand your position. I only have around 10,000 stars and have never been sitting on over 25,000. So I understand that with that kind of amount (which is a testimony of you being a VERY loyal Nintendo customer), you feel like you should get something epic out of the Stars Catalogue, like something which will become pretty rare soon or so.

But, honestly, if you really wanted to, you could've easily spent all those stars. I don't know if you have already ordered the Mario figurine from them, and the Game & Watch, maybe the SNES controller when it was still available, or the Game & Watch Collection for DS, or maybe even the Galaxy soundtracks. If you haven't ordered any of those or maybe only just one or two, it's because you've been picky about free stuff. Even though, they are all Nintendo themed stuff, which for a huge Nintendo collector such as yourself, should in itself be worth collecting. Mind you I'm not judging you about it. I've been picky myself, and holding out for something I wanted to spend my stars on.

If you already have all of those on some shelf at your place, then you could still spend your stars on Nintendo Points Cards. And yes, I know that's hardly a fair deal. But only if you think of those stars in terms of money that you're losing. What they actually are is a free gift from Nintendo for being their loyal customer. If you would then spend said Nintendo points on VC stuff (basically cleaning the store out gradually, which for a collector might also be nice: to own all VC games), that would mean you'd still have had a lot of value for free from Nintendo.

Instead, you chose to rebuy stuff you already had, taking it away from other people, even some people on here, who missed out on the Pikmin dolls, and reacted disappointed about that fact in this very thread. And instead of enjoying your free dolls you decided to monetize them. Again, not judging, you had every right to do with your stars what you wanted. I just try to describe the way I see it.

Again, I understand why you handled things as you did. But in your case I would probably not moan about it, and your argument about stars that would expire if you didn't rebuy and monetize the Pikmin dolls is a false one imo. You could've settled with Nintendo Points Cards.

I already have Mario figurine, Game & Watch Ball, SNES controller, Game & Watch collection. I have them all in my collection having earnt over 100,000 stars in total. admittedly I could have exchanged them for club nintendo points - but I am/was also a 'Nintendo connection ambassador' which means I already have all nintendo virtual console stuff, and have previously bought a lot of WiiWare, I really would be scraping the bottom of the barrel & downloading rubbish for the sake of it if I exchanged for Nintendo points card. If you could trade for eshop credit that'd be a different matter altogether

I think you're really an exception in that case. I doubt there's more than a handful of people in the EU that have gone as far as you. The Stars system is really intended as an incentive to buy new first party content for the average gamers to get a few nice bonuses every year. Sounds like you got all that and expect more?

Wow. :-)

Well, maybe they'll introduce those eShop credit cards soon. Let's hope they do. ;-)

How do you mean expect more? I'm grateful for what I get & like collecting the stuff. But when you order every physical thing they release on there & still have stars that are about to expire then, yes, I guess there have been times that I have felt the scheme is somewhat flawed.

As far as I am concerned you are entitled to do with Star Catalogue rewards whatever you like.

If you don't mind my asking, how did you get that many stars? Did you buy every first party game since the GCN days? I buy a lot of (Nintendo) games but in total, I think I might have only ever had a total of 20-30k stars max. And I also started registering right in the Cube era.

There are many first party games I haven't bought. But I too signed up from day one in the GameCube days, I made the site my homepage so I'd get the 5 stars daily for signing in, I have bought a lot of games consistently over that ~11 year period. I also received a lot of surveys for 50 points each for all the virtual console games I got 'free' as a nintendo connection ambassador. I have never purchased club nintendo codes, though I have traded an odd few where I've ended up with doubles as a result trading in a game only to rebuy it at a later date. Really there are no secrets, it's just that I've been on there so long & never lost interest in nintendo / gaming in that time

I only started registering mid Wii era around 2009. I never registered any of my games previous and still haven't. Have earned around 15,000+. And even then I don't register them all. I take too long of them surveys lol.

Ugh, I've collected over 25k stars over the years.

I'd say the Game & Watch Collection on DS, a subscription to a Dutch Nintendo mag (RIP) and my yet to arrive G&W Ball replica are the best prices overall.

Anyone ordered the 3/DS cards collector case? I didn't find where to choose which one to prefer (among the three different covers available)

I am under the impression it comes with all three so you can mix and match (have one design inside, one out).

I just received mine today and I can confirm this. You get all 3.

1. Bullet Bills / Boos (other side)
2. Mario with mushroom / Power ups (other side)
3. Mario and Luigi / Peach with Yoshi (other side)

Besides the already known key chains (pink, blue, red, yellow) there is also a Purple one.

In Portugal there is a photo contest offering this.

I wonder if there are key chains for Rock and White Pikmin too.

Me too! I wonder if this means that they'll be on the stars catalogue soon seeing as they have them in stock...

Shibata said August. He already had some on hand. GAME shipped the Flying Pikmin keyrings with pre-orders of the game. Doesn't really mean anything, they probably have had the stock or parts ready for a while. They're just nuts with their timing of things...

thanks to all for the case reply! good to know that I will receive all the three sleeves.
about the pikmin keychain, is there a way to get them? in the star catalogue I think thay had the plushes, not the keychain, right?

If you wouldn't mind reading two posts above yours... :)

See that how it appears in the Stars Catalogue too but mine had Boo on the front, I suppose they're all reversible though it's just the way they're folded.

Anyone who does get those keyrings comment on the packaging. I'd hope for at least a cardboard outer box to protect the keyring in transit (but then again NOE should replace if the product is damaged).

Got the keyrings to match my Pink flying Pikmin keyring from GAME pre-order

1700? Darn. 355 short of getting both :(.

If only you could register the same games more than once, argh.

Don't suppose anyone has spare codes they would be willing to trade for wii play motion codes (Have 2 spare). Although I've probably already registered every major game.

Guess I'm going to have to see if I have enough games to register for one. Didn't bother with GAME's, but the yellow one is quite nice.

Someone tell me the mario figurine is awesome or crap. Need to get off the fence and spend some of my 7,000 points

You can, I have animal crossing registered 3 times

Was about to order one, but then I realized that I don't need any more useless clutter on my key chains. It also looks like the Pikmin will break easily...

Eesh. Yeah I was hoping for a little cheaper than that, but goddamit I'm a sucker for Pikmin. I can only afford one so got the Red Pikmin. Gonna need to keep an eye on eBay for the Yellow one. Can't find the Blue or Purple one that was given out in Europe anywhere either.

Also looking for a Yellow plush, as I missed that too.

Anyone looking to sell? PM me :P
