At least be intelligent enough to make a valid comparison. Of course everybody watching isn't a Gaffer, but it's related to videogames and you have to say a statement that makes sense to all people.

Damn, beat by a long shot. But agreed. And even relating to that comment you replied too ... more people are apt to know what the DS is like than a PS3 so making a comment comparing to that would be more applicable. Hell, even comparing to an iPhone is more applicable than the PS3 comment.

I stopped reading mainstream media regarding games anyway a while ago unless it's just release info like E3 and announcements. Sadly I still think "gaming sections" of major publications are throwaway jobs.

Sony themselves made that comparison to make the PSP sound more powerful than it was. Everyone else just ran with it.

I can't help but feel bad for the people who actual get information from CNN Money which are investors not game fans. If you watch that review looking for potential investment possibilities, you've got feel like this thing is going to be the biggest fucking failure ever when everything it does, it's being beaten by something else and handily and it's also a relic from 20 years ago. This guy made the thing seem like a piece of dogshit when really it's got a veritable monopoly on portable dedicated gaming. Hopefully, NGP works a little better for Sony than PSP but let's not kid ourselves that it will be any match for Nintendo's juggernaut.

You would think they would at least mention how incredibly popular the DS has been and how popular the 3DS is likely to be. He briefly mentions that it should sell well but then immediately undermines that by making it seem like this is the good ship, Failure, with his next statement.

Is that the same thing thats happening now with people posting screenshots of the handheld Uncharted next to Uncharted 2? Seems like they are comparing a handheld and console to me.

Yep, same thing. Sony PR spin. Aside from the PSP, nobody compares handhelds with consoles. A lot of people don't like the PSP because of how much like a console it is.

Most people are willing to sacrifice power for usability and portability when it comes to handhelds. Do you really think consoles and handhelds are the same?

People want and expect different things from them.

After watching that video, I now want to buy a Iphone and use it as a door stopper. AT&T with the help of Apple screwing up my Tmoblie android phone service and now I can't read up on the 3DS without an apple fanboy trying to convert me and everyone else to apple products...

Time for me to confess. I didn't actually grow up on mario, I grew up playing games before I moved to mario. Mario is just something popular that I cling to and use. My shame game that I grew up on? Some hand held game where you pick up girls and dodge things in the street to drop them off on the other side. Also the space ship game where you catch cows or something, and dodge asteroids or something.

IT felt good to get that off my chest.

Certainly not for the IPhone. Yeah, you can get the device for less IF you sign up for a years long contract which is going to cost you many times the rice of a 3DS. Not a good comparison.

Additionally, with an Iphone you have to worry about your tech becoming outdated compared to the games coming out whereas with the 3DS the tech will be improved but will never be more than your first gen 3DS can handle.

Ipod touches might be able to be gotten for a bit less than the 3DS but it suffers the same drawbacks as the 3DS (dedicated to specific things, remnants of older technology ie dedicated MP3 players) and has some new ones of its own like becoming outdated like the older Iphones without the strengths such as better control because of being dedicated for gaming, new 3D tech, etc.
 
Yeah, no one questions kids who openly praise 32-bit generation games as the games they grew up with. There's certainly no shortage of posters here who look back at Final Fantasy VII with nostalgia much as I do with Final Fantasy IV and V.

And Halo is only one generation removed from that. I don't hold that against him. But his general prejudices and ignorance speaks for itself. No need to throw ad homenims at him. He's still one of us ::hugs::
 
I want a 3DS game where you play as Wolf Blitzer and use his epic beard to journalistically uncover a terrorist plot by Rick Sanchez to get revenge on the network.

Iphone is cheaper?

It's $700 here. 3DS is $300 here. Cheapest ipod is $230.

And they don't even have buttons, so they clearly can't do more....in terms of PLAYING GAMES.

This needs further quoting. Halo is 10 years old. It is entirely possible that this kid is 20-21 years old and grew up on Halo.

We already have more than a few GAFfers retelling stories of playing Zelda:OOT or Final Fantasy VII when they were in early grade school (which always makes me feel old). The Junior of 5 years from now will not have even been born with those systems launched.
