Having a little trouble following what's happening here. Do you not want your cat to kill the mouse/would rather catch it yourself? The "closed" part of the OP is throwing me off and I need to know what's going on!
Anyway, I was just dealing with some mice like a month ago (an epic tale meticulously detailed in our Stupid Questions thread) and ended up using a couple old school wooden snap traps and something called Tomcat Mouse Attractant Gel. I'm sure that peanut butter, cheese or whatever would have worked just as well, as they were in a wall nowhere near any food, but that shit worked like a charm and I didn't have to share any of my peanut butter or cheese.
