CoD Elite Details - Premium $50 a year, Community Features Free

No, this is just a macrotransaction in order to fleece more money out of the fans that helped catipult this into one of the biggest franchises ever. Don't pretend it's anything other than what it is.
Then don't pretend like most other companies out there, or at least those that make fps games that you care for, have not been charging you for extra content....seeing as how you actually put yourself through this "farce" since COD2. In which case why did you even bother torturing yourself, go invest in another game or genre.

People really need to stop with this "the game costs double" fallacy.

It includes 16 multiplayer maps and a full suite of modes and everything for the expected price of sixty dollars. And you can enjoy those maps and modes forever without paying another cent.
I will be hearing the same argument when the game comes with no ammo and charges you to reload. It's a horrible, horrible value, and I cannot fathom why someone would pay for this.

MW3 gamers would probably be wiser getting the game for PS3.

$100 a year to play on the 360 with an Elite CoD subscription!

Plus $50 for the game to begin with!

Fuck that noise ...... BF3 for me.

Can't wait to see what the originators of this franchise produce over at Respawn.

Activision milked the fuck out of and ruined Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero and CoD.

This is an amazing deal really. Even if it was just all the DLC it would be worth it since it will save me 10 bucks, but there is also a bunch of other cool stuff added on to it that I think I will use.

I am surprised, Activision has impressed me lately.

Plus it is even cheaper if you get the hardened edition.

CoD is becoming like a lifestyle on itself for some people lol, who's gonna pay $50 for that?
Ah OP...this type of posts is probably why you should've included "All Future DLC" in the title :p

This actually doesn't sound too bad if you're a huge Call of Duty fan since you get the DLC for free. I wonder if the Map Pack exclusivity will be influenced by this - I really hope it does. PS3 players should not get to play they Maps a month later if they've subscribed to a service they're paying for simply because Microsoft threw money at Activision.

It's not for me as I'm not someone who buys Map Packs (bought them in CoD 4 & MW2) but Black Ops was a horrible, horrible game on the PS3 (tech wise) that I just did not want to play it anymore => no need for Map Packs.

Hardened edition is pretty good value. 20 bucks more and you get all the DLC. That's a good question, is map pack exclusivity get in the way of COD elite?

This is targetted at the guy who plays Call of Duty for hours every night. It is the only game he plays and he fucking loves it. He will definitely and happily buy the map packs or any piece of content that comes out.

That clearly isn't you. It isn't me either. But some people will love this, and will be saving some money and getting cool features in the process.

And in the end it is no different than any other game that comes out with DLC.

They have a contract with Microsoft until 2012, so guess not. Which kinda clashes with Elite on PC/PS3.

I remember when Call of Duty came out and featured a lengthy SP campaign, and terrifically fun MP modes. And then they released a $30 expansion, United Offensive, that was equally enjoyable. This was before people started being overcharged for maps.

kind of absurd that anyone would complain about this. they are offering more content for less money - if anything it's a better deal than before. activision may be evil but i find it hard to believe that people think that this is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Luckily all other devs and publishers have stuck with the earlier business model.

How many games do you know that ship with 36 Multiplayer maps?

-
Every (PC) entry in the Unreal Tournament series wound up with at least that many maps after a few updates, all at a net costs of $0.00 more than the purchase price.

The game comes in November so if they not re-new the contract they'll be able to release all (except maybe 1) of the Map Packs on all the systems at the same time. Would be good for everyone.

And tools for the community to build tons of maps.

Ah, no. What I meant was it's good in 2012 aswell. Their actually wording was "First on Xbox in 2012".

Yeah and nowadays Epic Games has paid DLC and even DLC Season Passes. Did you just emerge from a time capsule or something?

Amazed that MS allowed this, considering how much they love to keep subscription options for themselves, hence the long-held belief as to why a MMO isn't on Xbox.

Bobby must have really opened up the chequebook on this one.
To be fair, it's just a bigger, more expensive version of the season passes used by games like Gears 3 and Mortal Kombat. The price is just... Unprecedented. You'd think they'd give a bigger discount for pre-buying what amounts to a game's entire catalog of DLC, but you'd be wrong.

Its COD, im sure they have special treatment, just like EA got around some of the rules of Xbox Live back when it launched.

Or, you know, Microsoft didn't want to get in the way of the biggest franchise out there right now. I'm sure it's probably part of their exclusivity deal on the DLC that Activision can do something like this, and even if it wasn't, you don't want a superior version of the best selling game of the year to appear on a competing platform.

Nah, just mourning the death of value-added games as a single tear rolls down my cheek.

If you're a big enough CoD fan that you buy the map packs then this sounds like a pretty great deal.
I usually buy only the first map pack that becomes available for a CoD game... but the price and value of the Hardened Edition has made it a no-brainer purchase for me since it comes with other stuff on top of all the DLC that's coming as well. So this time when I get the game, I'll at least have the comfort in knowing all future maps will be available for me to download and play.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I dont buy DLC maps (out of principal) but this is a great deal for all the suckers out there that do. Dont really see how this is at all unfair or money grabbing as people are complaining. Suckers buy that DLC anyways so they arent forcing it on anyone. The suckers are just preordering the DLC they were being suckered into buying the first place. No harm no foul.

I kinda wish they adopted a pay to play system so I could see the internet explode. This is nothing. Im disappointed Kotick.

Actually he didn't. They looked over XBL and saw there there were times when 50% - 60% of all traffic was from COD. Bobby wanted a piece of that subcription, badly. He saw how Blizzard was rolling it in and wanted the same kind of mechanic set up for COD.

Apparently there were threats about where future COD titles should go. Microsoft relented and this is the package they agreed on. Not a monthly service but a "one time" cost. If successful this kind of thing will come with every COD title and more.

No word on how this service is cut up between Activision and the console companies, if any.

Tips on guns! Thank fuck that's included. I've searched the whole internet for years and I've never been able to find any tips on video games. I've never even been able to find any game frequently asked questions!

people buy whatever .. you cannot compare.its just a basic fact
It's also a known fact that you get a ton of community features for free, and that the price you pay for all those DLC is actually less than you would have for all the map packs made available in each previous iteration of CoD, and that if you don't care for those extra content, you can simply choose not to pay a single cent extra.

I miss that.
Personally, I'd settle for this sort of thing being what you get through Project Ten Dollar. A man can dream...

Isn't MW3 on PC supposed to moddable? Or have they not confirmed that one way or the other?

Is this cross platform? If so, I wonder if me (PC player) and my mate (PS3) could tie both our accounts to the one elite.

Very doubtful. With Activision's interesting in sucking more money out of people, expect it to be 1 account person Console/Elite Sub.

I don't think this is exactly the same, but yes. Hot shit = keep making it until some new hot shit comes along and the old one stops selling. I don't see military shooters crashing as hard or anytime soon as the plastic band stuff tho, mainly because of the different appeal & audience.

So you say they are paying to get free stuff? Gotcha.
