CoD Tournies seem pretty bad regarding sportsmanship

WoW arena was a laughable esport.

And Idra, one person out of a multitude of players, compared to entire teams in the above video? Laughable, and Idra always got criticized and finally kicked out for that as well.

Now you are just making excuses and brushing entire games aside to suit whatever point you want to nail. PC pros are classier than console pros. Believe what you want.

There is no point in discussing anything, we are done.

But yeah, keep labeling people by what platform they compete on.

well i imagine he's never heard of MOBAs

the neckbeard-y PC gaming elitism thing has gotten extremely tiring

the constant references to nazi-ism is especially cringeworthy

FGC is some straight up hood shit.

haha but they're all so nice! certainly the best gaming genre community i've seen.

Sometimes you gotta do yourself a favor and just back out as soon as you see red flags, "PC vs Consoles Round 9248" is one such flag.

Besides there is a great Heat vs Rockets game coming up =D

oh, not at all. i'm pretty good at a couple games. but getting to an extremely high level (i'm talking professional level) is really time consuming. same could be said of any pursuit, true, but unlike sports, most online gaming doesn't require you to actually spend time face to face with people. so you see a lot of these high level gamers lack social skills.

if you need proof, go learn to play DOTA. you'll see how toxic some of these communities are.

I've heard horror stories of DOTA online, haha. Your first comment was sort of vague but that's definitely true that people don't have to actually look people in the face when they're saying these terrible things to them. People change once they're annonimous online.

Cmon, that's a "rage compilation" designed and created for the style purpose of digging through hours of footage to find a few bad moments. You could make one from any sport or competition.

Is there a video of a guy somewhere screaming "RAPE THAT BITCH!"? My friend said that happened at some tournament once and nobody really cared, which I find it disgusting.

yet to see something coming from that out of the FGC. worst is like, a thrown stick

the anonymity does tend to exacerbate the problem, but i know very competitive people who play games and their sense of sportsmanship never seems to change regardless of if we're playing football on sunday or an online game.

i don't know if it's a cultural problem or what, but it's really not doing "eSports" any favors to have so many toxic gaming communities around.

shit like that is why women are such a minority in "eSports" - i see stuff like that casually thrown around so much online, it's terrible

disgusting, hopefully he loses his sponsorship and is banned from future tournaments

Alot of that didn't seem like competitive banter. It seemed like unbridled rage. The screaming especially.

First prize should be a year of therapy.

I wonder if it's just a response they can't control at this point. Like early on one guy yells something unintelligible, and then "You're cheating!" Obviously the other team is NOT cheating, they're in competition with a bunch of judges (presumably), but I'm sure he yells that out on XBL whenever he dies.

It's probably just a tick for him. Which is sad.

Was that Black Ops 2 on 360? If so wow.. it looks better than Ghosts..on next gen.

I swear alot when playing. No biggie. The last few words on the video are spot on, worse is probably said in a football game or rugby game. Its our nature.

Yeah the shit talking isn't what really gets me, although its pretty classless, and generally unprofessional.

What gets me is the fact that many of these teams have sponsors, when the rational company would never want to associate their products with rampant douchebaggery.

I mean, look at Rasheed Wallace in the NBA. Pretty good player, but he is such a rampant douchebag and shit-talker that no sponsor would touch him with a ten foot pole. Why should E-Sports be any different?

He didn't. He continues to play "pro-level" Juggle.

But the community brushes off examples like that as a "fluke," "not everyone is like that."

But that's for another thread or time since we've been down this road before.

This is what gets me about the ESL response to the story, it should have been something like "we take this esport very seriously, and we will be looking into this and making sure that players act to a higher standard than what this video shows", instead it was basically "ahh well, some other sports have people acting like this, so its OK for these players to hurl abuse at each other - its all friendly banter".

I like watching some esports (I watch evolution every year and loved the DOTA 2 invitational), but there is no way I would ever watch an esport with players acting like the people in that YouTube video.

Watching the CS tourny yesterday showed a lot of respect from both teams. I'm pretty sure they are all robots though.

It's part of the problem, sure, but women are not a minority in "esports", but in every kind of sports, the olympics, football, basketball, motorsports, chess, everything.
And I honestly don't think that women would've been treated better in any of these things, it's just that you don't hear what football players are actually saying to each other.

woof

Probably because it's not a sport lol.

"gamesmanship" then, whatever

i agree but this isn't the thread for hit and run "lol esports" posts

but now we can have women play against men very easily. we don't have to scour the country for an all female offensive line, anyone can pick up a fightstick and be the best in the world - provided they are comfortable with terrible looking neckbeards making rape jokes at their expense. why not remove that barrier and have "pro gamers" act with some semblance of maturity.

come on guys.. have some class.

Stopped doing MLG when a top sponsored team on MW3 had a friendly link with one of the refs and stole a win from us after losing 2-1 to shotguns. Its going to be a while before the cesspool found in competitive gaming is cleaned up.

I have never seen a CoD4 Promod events that anything like what I just saw in the video. I'd attribute it more to the console fps players in general than CoD as a whole. You never see this shit in CS either.
