LOL Codemasters, just what in the fuck are you doing

EA, squashing the dreams of every kid who grew up in the 90's, one developer at a time.

Just imagine if they did a hostile takeover of kadokawa corp and took fromsoftware in. Thank the heavens that it won't happen due to japan and their anti-trust laws.

The internet meltdown would be something I would pay to watch for lol

I think that we need to remind ourselves that Codemasters wasn't in a very comfortable situation before the takeover. Most of their IP's were commercial failures in the recent years (Onrush, Grid, Project CARS 3, Dirt Rally 2.0, Dirt 5) and pretty much only the F1 games were keeping them afloat. Sure teaming up with EA isn't the best choice, but I don't think they would've survived for much longer on their own.

Welp, it's over, lads

The F1 license also expires after 2025 and my guess is EA will look to decrease the cost of their licensing, very much in line with EA FC. How that portends to the future of Codemasters is yet to be determined.

That both licenses are expiring at the same time was never going to be a good thing for them.

With EA out, I don't really know many companies who could realistically afford the licenses. I could see Polyphony Digital taking both licenses and releasing annual DLC for Gran Turismo, but not being on Xbox and maybe more importantly not being on PC might make things difficult.

T2 doesn't really have a racing outfit.

Maybe Microsoft will jump into the fray to see if the licenses could help rebuild the popularity of Forza Motorsport.

Ubisoft isn't really in a position to tie themselves to these licenses.

That's not how that works with F1/FIA though. You can't just individually license teams or tracks, they are all tied-up with Liberty Media and FIA.

Where did I say anything about individually licensing teams or tracks... Like I literally didn't say that...

Maybe you thought I meant that because EA still has club level licensing, but that wasn't my point. My point was that they could simply make generic racing games.

Maybe I misunderstood you here

Because EA literally thrown FIFA tax (or more like mafia ransom money) out of the equation with licensing the clubs, players, leagues and arenas directly. In motorsports there FIA has way more governing power than FIFA and Liberty is the sole owner of everything F1-related, so it will be almost impossible to repeat EA FC trick.

But I get it, you probably meant that F1 deal will be axed altogether.
