Colbert's final "Better Know a District" comes full circle

These segments were always my favorite. Sometimes politicians allowed themselves to appear human and poke fun at themselves. I think the Obama 1,000 years of darkness was referring to Colbert Report going off the air. :( They were right. How did we get it so wrong? :(

Colbert's Last "Better Know a District"

Even though I'm not American I find The Colbert Report to be really enjoyable. It'll be shame when it's gone.

I thought it was amazing when he made it a month without the schtick getting old, I never would have imagined it would have gone on for 9 years and become one of the most important examples of satire, especially if you include the 2006 White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Colbert Report is blocked in my country. Didn't used to be, I used to watch it for a couple of years. When it was blocked it got off air for me, so I shed those tears a long time ago :(

That was always one of the segments that made me laugh and cringe the most. So many of them take such weird turns and it's funny to see which reps could take the jokes better.

I'm going to miss this show, so much :( can't believe it's been almost a decade since it started...

Colbert going out on the highest of notes. He's still the most innovative comedian out there IMO ( at least as far as shows are concerned), though the others kicking out of Stewarts show are pretty good as well (Oliver).

All Good Things ...

Isn't there somebody replacing him? Obviously the show and Stephen are intertwined to the extent you can't have the same show without Colbert. But in so far as Comedy Central having a companion satire/comedy show to Jon Stewart, wasn't someone getting a show?

Larry Wilmore is getting the slot mid-January.

The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore.

Larry Wilmore, the senior black correspondent, is getting his own show. Last time I heard it was called The Minority Report but it was changed (obviously) for The Nightly Show.

I'm really going to miss Colbert in that role. He's gotta be our era's Mark Twain.. so incredibly witty.

At the same time, I can't wait to see what he does with this new spotlight on CBS. This'll be the first time since CoCo where I actually watch a night show every night. Incredibly smart move on CBS' part.

We will miss his truthiness.

I'll miss Colbert Report. While I also like the Daily Show and think Stewart's a better interviewer, Colbert's generally more fun to watch due to his fictional persona, and his shows don't suffer from those boring correspondent segments either.

I always loved this segment. There were so many great moments coming from it.

This poor guy got roasted with that Lena Horn segment.

Nooooo.

The Minority Report was such a great pun.

It was, but they kinda had their hand forced, and also decided it might pigeon-hole the show.

That sounded both clever and original to everyone involved, and, of course, it had the ring of familiarity from the 2002 Steven Spielberg-Tom Cruise film. But the ring got a bit too loud in August when the studio that owns the film, Fox, announced it was making a television pilot based on the movie.

“It became complicated,” Mr. Wilmore explained, because the only way to retain the original title would have been to always use it in the complete form. It would get a bit unwieldy, he said, when discussing the show in interviews or on social media repeatedly to say “The Minority Report With Larry Wilmore.”

“The last thing you want is brand confusion,” he said. So on Thursday, he and Comedy Central are unveiling the new title: “The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore.” That was the simplest choice, Mr. Wilmore said. It also fits nicely, temporally, between the shows that will bracket it four evenings a week: “The Daily Show” and “At Midnight.”

The main thrust will be to examine issues from the point of view of the underdog. In that way, the title change is probably a good one, he said.

“It was never intended to be a show only about minorities,” Mr. Wilmore said. “It’s a show about underdogs, and that happens in a lot of different forms, whether it’s race, gender, or whatever.”
